OT - Music Questions DDY & Styx related

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Wed Dec 22, 2004 12:17 pm

1. What does every one think of Toto's music?

2. What are your thoughts about a possible summer tour with Roger Hodgson opening up for Dennis?

3. What "new" or "current" band would be a good opener, if any, for either Dennis or Carrot Styx?

I would love to see Toto, but I don't think they have toured North America lately. They are still very popular in Europe.
Rodger Hodgson has been around Toronto a couple of times, though solo.
I would prefer him with a backup band.
Dennis and Roger, best double bill ever???Nah,I don't think so.

I can kind of get into Toto.. The have a decent amount of diversity, but since they are all session men, this is to be expected..

The Dennis & Roger thing would be kinda cool, but I don't really see them together.. I have always thought that Dennis should do a tour with Meat Loaf.. Who would be the opener, though?

Good question?.. If it has to be a newer group, I honestly have no ideas.. maybe Matchbox Twenty for Styx, but Styx might have to open for them..

The DDY, Rodger Hodgson bill would be excellent. I saw Supertramp in 1979 or 1980, Excellent show!! They played for an unbelieveable amount of time.Looooooong, and good..... could of been the drugs????

Other possibilities for Dennis would be Glen Burtnik or Rik Emmet opening up for Dennis. I would shell out HUGE cash, and drive days to see Dennis with any of the above.

As for Styx, I would pair them with Night Ranger, maybe Loverboy. If Ted could make it( Night Ranger pairing) and they could do a 45 minute Damn Yankee set even better, If not I would just enjoy seeing them with Night Ranger. Rumor has it that The North American leg of the Styx tour this summer will pit Styx with Cheap Trick. I'd much rather see them with Night Ranger, or Loverboy.

As for Toto, I'm lukewarm on them. How about Boz Scaggs??. I'd SURE pair him with Dennis. Dennis and Boz AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell me this isnt AWESOME, 30 plus years after these awesome talents broke we still get to see them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And many --MOST -- of them sounding really good. And in the case of Dennis, to use Yogi's term, awesome.

I think Roger Hodgson is a great choice for an opener with Dennis. I really, really, really, have always liked Rik Emmett, so for me that would be really GREAT.

Loverboy I also love!! I still have my old Loverboy jersey shirt - LOL

For Styx, I think Ted Nugent, Night Ranger, Damn Yankees and then Styx would be a show to see - for the Current Line-Up Styx fans

BlackWall, Meatloaf would be great. I never thought of him before, hmmm, very interesting.

Also, I LOVE Matchbox Twenty!!!!!!!!!!! Did they break-up? I know Rob Thomas is releasing his solo cd soon. Maybe he can open? I'll have to add his picture to my avatar

Dennis and Barry Manilow.

They could do the dueling piano thing and sing each other's songs.

Or maybe Dennis and Slim Whitman!

Or Dennis and John Tesh!!

Or Dennis and Air Supply!!!....oh that's right, they already did that

kansas666, I figured you'd come up with a "serious" list of musicians since your a musician yourself. But no, it's the same old posts.

I don't think Dennis and Barry Manilow have the same type of music, just my opinion. Hmmm, Slim Whitman? Sorry, I never heard Dennis yodel before.

1. I liked Toto a lot in the mid-80s and even collected some of their back catalog, but I never listen to them anymore. Haven't followed anything they've done since the 80s.

2. I just recently learned about who Roger is, so I don't have any strong feelings. I'd go see Dennis regardless of the opening act IF he comes close enough (Lincoln or Omaha or Council Bluffs).

3. I would be intrigued by a double bill featuring Styx and The Goo Goo Dolls. I think a pretty fair chunk of older fans would recognize the Goos music. For Dennis, I have no idea. Would the opening act be compelled to utilize the symphony, or not? This would make a difference in my mind, as to who I'd select.

I liked Toto first and 4th cds. The two inbetween were pretty bad. Isolation, which came after 4 was ok, (Stranger in Town rocks), with 3 or 4 good songs. The Joseph Williams led vocal cds Fahrenheit and 7 are my favorites. The Greatest Hits rocks, but the group goes down hill after that Kingdom of Desire and Tantium(?). Mindfields is ok. The boots have of them are good, they have not been to any of the places I have lived (at the time), so I have never seen them in concert. They need Joseph back.

Dennis and Roger should be a good show. Love to see him with Steve Perry (which will never happen) or Kevin Chalfant. Also Glen Burtnick, John Waite, Jim Peterik, Richard Marx, Lou Gramm, Billy Joel, or Peter Cetera.

As for Styx, another Main Event Tour with Journey and REO would be good. Also with Foreigner, Boston, Night Ranger, Survivor.-ERIC

Best Pairing with Dennis:
Steve Perry (why can't that happen)
Roger Hodgson (very talented)
America (Lots of hits, great 70s band)
Peter Cetera (do some chicago tunes Pete)

Best Pairing with STYX:
Rush (umm, better not, Methinks Geddy and company would blow them away)
Foreigner (with Lou of course)
Boston (hey they have a girl in the band now)
The Beach Boys (Each band could debate how many original members are left)

The problem with touring with Boston is that their female member is hot AND can sing her ass off.

Rush doesn't need an opening act.

Good thing about touring with the Beach Boys, Todd wouldn't even need to get up from his seat.

Edguy for the heavy metal -- Styx for the rock and roll!! :)
