The Runners up ?

Postby classicstyxfan » Mon Apr 11, 2005 12:23 pm

Just wondering if anyone has inside or not so inside info regarding musicians considered for , or even auditioned to be in Styx when a member left or was fired.....

Was TS the only guitarist considered to replace JC ?

Was Todd the only drummer considered after the Death of JP ?

When Dennis was fired in 81, was a plan B ready to be put in place ?

Did Styx consider any Keyboard players in 1999 who can also sing ? ( JUST KIDDING ! )

I've never seen any published info on this topic, but we have a few here
who may have asked these questions ????

Enquiring minds want to know !

I believe Tommy was the only one brought in for John C, brought in at the time by their manager.

Not sure about Todd.

I remember Tommy saying long ago that they Lawrence was the only one they considered, the same with Glen on his second trip with Styx as Bass Player.

No idea on Glen's first trip with the band.

If I am wrong, someone will correct me.

I seem to recall that they auditioned tons of people for the spot. Or at least they reviewed tons of submissions. Many of them sounded more like Denny than Denny.

Makes me wonder if they should have added 2 members to replace "Denny".......If they could have duplicated the Styx vocal sound, harmonies and all ( ala Augeri ) I wonder how feelings would have changed among the faithful ???

I'm sure many here would never accept any substitute, but what if they'd done this, and added 1-2 new songs that sounded like the DeYoung style?

They interviewed and saw tapes of other singers to replace Mr. DeYoung in 1999. There are articles from a few singers from bands that were interviewed. When I have time, I'll try to dig and find them. I know the guy from the Styx Tribute band "Light Up", Bobby, was called from Glen to "try out" for the band.

I think they wanted someone that could play keyboards and sing instead of hiring 2 people.

No matter who took Dennis' place after he was fired would change my mind on how I feel about the current line up, not even Rik Emmett!!

I thought Tommy was the second choice brought in after John C., I'll have to dig for that information too - UGH
