What would happen if......................

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Thu Apr 28, 2005 7:31 am

What would happen to the band Styx if for some reason Larry couldn't go on tour? He recently had surgery on his knee, which healed nice. (He still can't jump off of the stage or rotating keyboards but he can still prance around with women's lingerie around his neck.)

Anyway, what happened if the doctor told Larry that he couldn't perform or go on tour for the next 4 months that he had to stay on bedrest? Would Shaw and Young find a replacement singer for their tour especially going overseas? Would they just cancel the dates?

I really don't want anything bad to happen to Larry, I personally think he's a really nice guy (he's just not the best singer).

But what do you think they would do?

They should replace him with Tony Carey.... I hear TC needs the money these days.

Well, that was uncalled for but at least you admit Larry doesn't matter.

Good question. I suppose they would try to reschedule. BTW, Suite, what's up with all the colors lately? :D

If it were for the short term, and only a few concerts, I would imagine they would reschedule.

If he were to be out for 8 months to a year, my guess is they would find someone as a temporary replacement, maybe even just a keyboard player, and handle the vocals themselves or change the setlist away from what he sings.

You know.....I have no idea about this. Just pure speculation on my part.

won't happen....BUT....what if they found some unknown replacement who plays well, has a great voice, and has about 6 really great songs written and ready to record ????

Would they be loyal to Larry, and bring him back ASAP, or would they fire him and go with the new guy ?

Hmmmmm.............

Larry would be gone like yesterday's news... he can go sing bad Genesis songs in a dive somewhere.

I'm in a very colorful good mood today (I went shopping) :D

As for this "thread", I was just wondering if there's always a plan B, especially with one of the "lead" singers.

I don't know if they would reschedule a whole tour, not now especially when they are supporting the Bang album/cd.

Just wondering...................

For short time, re work schedule, little longer, around year, i think they would put Styx on hold. Work on solo cds, DY, or Shaw Blades stuff. They could find something to do.-ERIC

I think the Europe trip is a pretty big deal. I bet they would replace anyone but Tommy if they had to.

Leave behind Larry, thats unthinkable. I mean all those European fans who've been waiting for years to hear 'I am the Walrus', 'More Love for the money', 'Criminal Mind' and countless other Larry sung Styx classics.

Honestly if they wouldn't wait for Dennis (Yes I know there was more to it than that) they'd drop Larry like a bad habit, especially if it were going to be a long enough hiatus that would make them have to cancel the tour.

This is of course not to suggest that they wouldn't pick him up afterwards, but if the "new guy" had those songs ready to record.........

of course, he couldnt be a control freak.......

seriously, and I do know the scenario is totally unrealistic..........
there's so much talk about how well they all work together now, I wonder what would be more important, the lust for relevance in the 21st century, or loyalty to the "current team" ??????

Classic,

You might be best served if you asked Glen. He was after all a member of the "best line-up ever" or at least the best before this one. Yes I know he left on his own terms, but it sure didn't take long for Ricky to take the mantle of "best bass player ever in Styx" from Glen who in turn took it from Chuck.

hope they wouldn't cancel, iv'e got hotels booked and time off work LOL. If it did happen sure us brits would be happy with a big name replacement who has'nt been over here in a while. Cronin from REO would be great (and a good friend of the band) or even Steve Perry!! now that would be.....................................

"More Love For The Money" sounds like it should have been on the "Calling All Stations" album, which was a post-Collins disaster.

I'm sure many of the people around here probably love it and think it's the greatest Genesis album ever and that Ray Wilson was the greatest Genesis singer ever....

Yea, they got a new lead singer... Ray Wilson and did one album in 1998. It didn't do anything and they aborted their supposed US Tour.

There are a few decent songs but overall they sorely missed Phil.

They never recorded a follow up. And although they never officially fired Ray, they stopped calling him and they did perform once with Phil since for some sort of special acoustic show.

Yep, learn something new everyday on this board. I never heard of Ray Wilson before and never had a clue there was another Genesis singer. I'm not a huge Genesis fan, I just know the radio hits. I did see Peter Gabriel a few years ago, pretty good show.

I checked out his (Ray's) website and I'm impressed. He also sang with the Scorpions too? Never knew that either.

He's on tour in Europe and seems to be doing pretty good.

If he sang with the Scorpions that's news to me. Klaus Mein is their lead singer... always has been to my knowledge.

even The Scorpions that Ray Wilson sang with was FAKE (no Roth or M Schenker) seems like I've been listening to FAKE bands for the last 30yrs LOL. Just think about it , if all bands didn't carry on after an original/founder member left/got kicked out, how much great music we would have missed out on eh???
