Born For Adventure

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Tue Sep 13, 2005 7:05 am

After listening to several live recordings of this song, again. I really, really, really would like to hear "Born For Adventure" live, by Mr. DeYoung, of course!!

This is a must!!! The live versions are a ton better than the original, in my opinion. The original is great, the live versions are better :)

I need to make another list of what I want - LOL

No, no, no!!! (just like in BFA-LOL) You have to keep "Rockin' The Paradise", I like that song. You have to keep "Desert Moon" too and also add "Don't Wait For Heroes". OMG, you have to keep "Mr. Roboto", my kids love that song and it's a fan favorite, except in Rockford - LOL

They should have a ballerina up on stage when he performs "Ballerina", just like the "old" days.

I agree, one of the best rockers ever. I did read over at the DDY website that they are thinking about adding Don't Wait for Heros to the set, a personal favorite of mine. Wish set list:

Dont wait for heros
Grand Illusion
Best of Times
Lady
Born for Adventure
This Old Man
Pieces of Eight
This is the time
First Time (dedicate it to TS)
Mr Roboto (dedicated to JY)
Rocking the Paradise
Love at First Sight
Loreli

Queen of Spades

Great list, love "First Time". I don't know how much longer he'll keep in a few songs. If I was a betting person, I'd say SMB is almost on the way out. I'm sure someone on here would agree

Yes, it's a great list Lord compiled.

SMB...ya think????

No seriously, it will be gone I would imagine very soon. First Time.....well...what can I say....whatever the price...(sorry wrong song)

BFA would be great to hear him do, but something tells me that won't be happening anytime soon.

DWFH...I would love to hear this one.

See, if he can perform "Light Up", to me, he could perform "Born For Adventure".

What's really the difference between the lyrics and their meanings?

A Lady in waiting
Lips red with rouge
She offered me pleasures
I could not refuse
No, no, no

For I was born
Born for adventure
Women whisky and sin
No I'll never surrender
Live by the sword till the end

* * * * * * * * * *

All I need is just one hit to get me by
'Cause baby when your near I'm halfway high

Light up, everybody
Join us in this celebration
Light up and be happy
Sweet, sweet sounds will fill the air

I'd love to see Born for Adventure too! And Unfinished Song, Best Thing, I'm OK, Harry's Hands, etc.

Then he could drag in a huge pipe organ to play Father O.S.A. and I'm OK. LOL! I can dream..... Still love to hear that rattle the walls pipe organ on those two!

With the exception of Unfinished Song (which I got to hear him do at HOB last year)...I agree with your choices. I'm sorry...for me Unfinished Song....is...well...not such a great song. I'll leave it at that.

Unfinished Song, love that one! I think it's one of his best. I heard that he did sing that(bugsy & suite spoke of it). Lucky you for getting to hear it, even though it's not one of your favorites.

I have stated it here dozens of times, but I think Born For Adventure is by FAARRRR the finest progressive piece of rock and roll music ever performed.

I have a GREAT King Biscut recording when Styx opened their show with this gem. To hear the announcer say' will you please welcome A&M recording artists STYX' and then Styx breaks into this song brings chills EVERY time I hear it. That live recording is the cornerstone of my Styx collection. It is a crystal clear recording and Dennis and Styx never sounded better. There will NEVER be another classic song like that one. It is PERFECT!!

To go one step further to hear Midnight Ride, followed by Born, followed by Prelude 12 followed by Suite....... AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Equinox was soooooooooooooooooooooo damn good!!!!

Does Dennis realize this?????????????????????????????

Best prog rock ever? Doubt it. Anything by King Crimson or Yes blows it away. BFA is a good rock song, though. If you want to call it prog rock, go listen to Yes' Close to the Edge and get back to me if you still call BFA progressive.

And whether or not DDY realizes Equinox is good, he's not the same artist and musician he was in 1975. We all progress and move on. Are you the same you were when you were 15? No.

Listen to the entire song( Born For Adventure) from beginning to end with the volume of your stereo turned allll the way up. NO one song is better or more progressive.

Do the same for all three of the songs I mentioned from Equinox.

BEST album EVER!!!!!!!!

I like Equinox a lot ... but it's not progressive rock. Movement for the Common Man? That's about as progressive rock as Styx got.

In my opinion that entire album minus Midnight Ride is 'super' progressive. From the intro that starts Light Up, thru Mother Dear to Born For Adventure to Prelude 12 into Suite Madame Blue.

GREATEST album EVER!!!!

My one question has ALWAYS been does Dennis Deyoung REALLY know how awesome that album was???

Why the critics did not embrace this gem I will never know. I have always held theories.

I believe it is because they didnt know how to catorgize this album, or the band. 'This is the same band that sung Lady'?? they might of asked themselves. Are they a Hard Rock band??,a Progressive Rock band, an Art Rock, a Pop Rock. What kind of album is this??? What type of band is this???

It had it all. Thats what made it soooooooo progressive.

GREATEST album EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know if these bands are 'really' relevant today, but I bet Dream Theatre or Queensryche could do the song justice.

The live King Biscuit version is sooo damn AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have always wondered if there is an entire King Biscuit Styx concert of that same show?? Ive got three songs from it. But where is the entire concert?? They just didnt record those three songs and then pack up the equipment!

Someone ought to contact 'The Biscuit'. Ive got an entire April Wine concert of theirs, and they do a GREAT GREAT job. So where is that entire Styx show?????

Born For Adventure will always be my favorite Styx song from what I feel is their BEST album ever!!!!!
