Here are the lyrics and chords to Just Be. The song is supposed to be released on iTunes in about 5 weeks.

Just Be - by Styx

--------------------------------------------

Em
Did you make your bed?

Did you lose your head?

Are you still awake
G
From the things we said…

Em
You close your eyes

But the sleep won't come

`Cause you can't escape
G
What's said and done

Em
Did you draw the line

In the sand again

Did you make a stand
G
Out on a limb

CHORUS:
D Am
Don't be so hard on yourself
C
'Cause you can't change the world
D
You can't change the world alone
Em
Just be

Em
You drink too much

`Cause you think too much

It seems so hard to feel
G
All this is real

Em
You numb your heart

So you feel no pain'

Then you miss the bliss
G
of the pouring rain.

Em
But there's a brand new day

It's a shame to waste

It's yours to live
G
It's yours to taste

Chorus (2x)

WOW and that is a totally ROCKIN' SONG!!!! I headbanged during the whole performance - LOL

I like the song because it isn't a rock song, it's totally Tommy!

I have the whole song video taped from my camera. The sound is pretty bad since I was on Larry's side right by the speaker, BUT the footage came out great for all those Tommy droolers!!! Pretty perfect!! You can hear Tommy talk at the beginning, very cute!!

OK, that was funny.

Doesn't it have a "Kiss me Hello" flavor to it?

Yes it does. :D

I really do like the song, but I wouldn't consider it a "rock" song in the direction they wanted to take after 1999 and I wouldn't consider it a "ballad" either, obviously.

I'm going to try to put it on YouTube.

Not to me at all. Definitely "Kiss Me Hello" or anything off Ambition. Allan will like it. ;-)

LOL ...you make broad assumptions. I heard snippets of it and was unimpressed. I haven't been enamored with much of TS' songwriting since Hallucination (with a few exceptions).

It's step in the right direction, and I want to hear a studio version before I pass full judgement.

I really don't. I make sarcastic assumptions. (hence the winky) You have spent the last few days pummelling "Ambition" to the ground, so naturally, a song reminiscent of that album would cause you to be overcome with indifference.

Actually, that's the exact song I thought of too...I like it, but it's hard to tell how much I like it because bootlegs almost always suck.

Definitely NOT a rockin' song when I heard them play it. Personally, it did nothing for me and I did not care for it. Maybe that will change when I hear it again but it was a bathroom break song for me and my son

And yet another Styx fan with absolutely no taste. That song sucks. Get some new ears.

And by the way, I love how this is yet another example of that HARD ROCKIN HEAD BANGIN Styx that JY wants so badly. Give me a freakin' break. They suck.

Just re-listened to the YouTube clip.

It isn't growing on me. It just kinda plods. It's a set killer if you ask me - can take the life right out. It doesn't really go anywhere. Better follow that one up with a hit if it's done live. Maybe if it sounds good on CD/tape from a studio recording, OK. But a 4/4 time that feels to be 80 - 90 BPM just doesn't hit me in the gut.

But once again I submit: this more speaks to who Tommy is as a player and songwriter.

Allan I agree with you on this. Definitely the slowest song in their set. JY looks like he's hiding in the video. Hope this isn't their idea of "progressive rock". would much rather have them do their own brand of rock and kick it a little.

Gave the song a listen. I think the 'showkiller' comment is spot on. Not terrible, but nowhere near good. It kinda has a Pink Floyd feel to it.

I look at it this way: it's better than "Yes I Can". That's not saying much, though.

I think TS has hit the creative wall and needs a GB or DDY to bring out the better songwriter in him. They had some decent moments on Cyclorama I really liked, but as a whole, his works either for Styx, solo, or for others just haven't been that good since about 1995. Very, very hit or miss. Loved "Dear John", and I know I go against the grain when I think "On My Way" is pretty good. It's mid tempo-y, but is instantly recognizable as a TS-led Styx track. Not quite a rocker, but decent feel and tempo. Heck, I even think the scones part in the beginning is kinda funny.

If he wrote more tracks like that, we'd be OK. Instead we get proportionally more songs like "Together", "Just Be", "Yes I Can", and "I Will Be Your Witness" to ones like "These Are The Times" and "Do Things My Way".

Look, in the Rush tribute band I'm in we try to come up with setlists we think flow and work. Even we can recognize when a certain song can kill the flow of a set. Heck, even stuff we think will work will wind up not working for one reason or another. Point is, that is a definite bathroom/beer break for the casual fan dead smack in the middle of a set. You play that one in your last 3 - 5 songs, you're screwed. Same with the beginning of the set. But if you set it in the middle and keep that tempo, you may kill any momentum you built up.

Thanks for the link. My sound is horrible due to the fact I was so close to the speakers. I videotaped Tommy talking at the beginning, that was perfect but when the music started it sounded terrible. My video is much more clear! I'm still trying to put mine up but the file is too big! UGH

I'm still giggling that the current line up wanted to do more "rock" - LOL Just think, one of Dennis' new song is 5 times harder than this one - LOL Just amazing!

I think that the perception of DDY has changed. I do not mean this as a put down in any way. I don’t think anyone expects him to come up with a rock song. It’s not his thing anymore. I wouldn’t expect Rod Stewart to record anything close to “Stay With Me” and I don’t expect DDY to do anything like “Born For Adventure”. Styx on the other hand is expected to come up with a rock album and not another Babe or Love at First Sight.
A song does not have to be a kick ass rock song to be good. I know my musical tastes have expanded and changed over the years and I am listening to things I would never have considered 25 years ago. My point is DDY does not have to record a “Rock” song for me to like it. From Styx I expect good structure, good harmony, and something a little off the beaten path. The same could be said for DDY with the exception of the beaten path part. I think he is more likely to follow the ballad/theatrical formula which works well for him. I’ve rambled on enough for one day…… 8)
