Styx Manager Confirms Classic Albums Fall Tour

Postby Rockwriter » Wed Aug 04, 2010 4:36 am

Charlie Brusco has confirmed a 22-date fall tour billed as 'An Evening with Styx'. http://www.wewillrockyoublog.com/2010/0 ... tyx-dates/

He also talks a little bit about 'Regeneration Volume 1'.

Cool news!

Funny thing when STYX plays Dennis material namely Gowan the fans feel screwed but when Dennis plays Shaw songs the place is up for grabs lovin it.
Charlie Brusco Thanks for another dumb idea, you with the help of others have destroyed the legacy of STYX all for the all mighty dollar.
What a scum bag.,

Seems like they're only selling it on their web site and at their shows. That will limit the polution somewhat. I don't really think there will be a mass-appeal for this like there was with Journey. At least in Journey's case they had a guy who could remotely sing like Steve Perry. Styx has no such singer (regardless of what you think of Gowan, he really doesn't sound much like Dennis).

Sidenote: And the Journey stuff came with an album of new material which was actually pretty decent.

In the end - I don't think this will cast much of a ripple.

How can a band play 2 classic albums live when its not even the classic lineup playing it?
Is Brusco really this dumb? This is like the band Light UP doing GI all the way through,

They have the Styx name and can do what they please. It's no more or less legitimate than if Dennis announced he's going to do a full Styx album or having someone else do Tommy Shaw songs. Both have their merits, and thankfully as fans we can choose to see what we like or none of it. Bottom line: it's basically a "so what?"

Face facts: in 2010 we would NEVER see the "classic" (TS, JY, DDY, CP, JP) lineup anyway because John is no longer with us and Chuck isn't doing full shows (or at least hasn't in a long time). So it looks like you're equating classic only with DDY, JY, and TS at this point.

As much as it pains me to say this (because the thought of Gowan turned loose on such songs as "Castle Walls" and "Pieces of Eight" makes me physically sick), I fully understand the what and why of this.

It will be very interesting to see the reception (i.e. ticket sales) this generates. It may turn out to be a big positive for them. Or not.

Interesting that the album is a merchandise item after all. For fans of this lineup, I would imagine having the recording will be a plus for them.

It will be a positive thing for the devoted fans that are interested in this version of Styx. Other than that it will go unnoticed.
As far as their choice on how to market the Regeneration album they more then likely did not have much choice. They are a band without a label and I don't think that a label would be interested in it.

I agree. Interesting that Charlie says they plan to do more of these. Come to the show and buy an exclusive CD. Seems like something they can do quickly and tailor to various songs being done in the show. Still think it is ashame that they aren't including songs the way they do them now, would at least have some additional value.

It will be a positive thing for the devoted fans that are interested in this version of Styx. Other than that it will go unnoticed.
As far as their choice on how to market the Regeneration album they more then likely did not have much choice. They are a band without a label and I don't think that a label would be interested in it.

Never say never  :D

Well, I am basing this on the fact they are not doing anything new. Plenty of classic artists have done the very same thing. Pink Floyd and Roger Waters come to mind. Both of them have performed the enitre Dark Side of the Moon on their tours. So it's really not something inventive. It's more like coping what other classic bands have done before.

At the very least, it is a different show than the 'Greatest Hits' shows they've been doing since Glen left.

Will anyone else be going to the Erie, PA show in November 5th?

Sadly I never got to see PF in concert. Only on my TV screen. However, I did get to see Roger Waters on tour and he was fantastic which kind of made up for it. What puzzles me is that Styx has not really attempted to try and release a new album lately. Being that they have this new version of the band I would have thought they would have done more. I understand the way the industry is but there are plenty of examples of lesser known bands that have found a way to do it. Which leads me to believe it's more then just the state of the industry. I am not a follower of the current Styx but this just puzzled me.
