I hope all the songs will be included.

No reason to do it if there not all on it.

Sure there is. Dennis could say no to a DVD/Blu-Ray release. Time will tell.

Clearly he would. Why would he let them do that? - unless they promise to give him a big chunk of the proceeds.

Well they had to do something with him for regeneration so they'll probably do the same for this. He'll probably get another check in the mail soon unfortunately.
Or maybe we don't know all of the details of the settlement. It's possible some segments of the settlement were for a certain period of time...let's say 10 years. Who really knows...only a theory.StyxCollector wrote:Not necessarily. Think of it another way (my theory, BTW): if he gives an OK, it would show Styx with Gowan doing DDY tunes. Assuming DDY thinks he has the superior product out there (and this isn't a debate of that one way or another), this may settle the debate for some. It won't sway anyone on this board, but if people come away after watching it that Styx has an inferior product vs what Dennis is putting out there, it's a big win for him. A good example: "Castle Walls". It just isn't for Gowan's voice. You can go in a studio and re-record vocals to get them to sound better, but quite frankly, Memphis is going to have an awfully good night for that one to just sound right.
Again, it's just a theory.
And bonus for Dennis: he gets paid royalties on the songs he should not matter what, just as I'm sure Tommy gets his when Dennis plays his songs.
So assuming my theory has any merit, there's not much downside at this point to Dennis giving them permission.

Why would that be "unfortunately"?? Seriously? Why wouldn't he get a check/paid for a song that he wrote or co-written? Same as other artists/musicians.
You're an idiot. Did you know that JY received a nice check for the "Mr. Roboto" commercial, even though he was a part of it he received more than he "probably" should have.
Did you know that Tommy got paid for the same commercial even though he WASN'T part of it? I bet you didn't know that.
Did you know that members of Styx in the past actually "helped" each other out when needed? Yes, even DDY, the one that you don't like.

yogi wrote:This is like the Seinfeld episode where Kramer says its a write off and no one really knows what that is.
So are you telling me that at the end of each DDY concert Tommy gets a check in the amount of???? because they played Blue Collar Man and Renegade?? How much is that check?? DDY gets a check everytime they plae Come Sail Away???
Get real!!!!
Styx has done Arch Allies & Styxworld where they have played DDY songs I am sure he got a chunk of that. Still he could not prevent them from singing and recording his songs.
yogi wrote:So why is this sad? Is this the 'royalty issue that is talked about soo much?
Since Come Sail Away was included on Styxworld how much $$$ did Denny receive???
How much $$$$ does Dennis receive from each current Styx concert??? They play The Grand Illusion, Come Sail Away etc... If 800 out of the 2,0000 people that attend these shows come to see Denny's songs what % of cash does he receive from these shows???? Did he get checks in the mail daily when Styx was playing nightly???
Does Tommy now get checks from DDY shows???
Get real its a write off??????????
They have recorded and sold his songs before they will do it again.
Does Dennis/ Styx/ Neil Diamond/ Danny Partridge/ Beatles/ The Who etc... get money from you everytime you play one of their songs?? What if someone records it??

masque wrote:that's why when Mr. roboto was used in the car commercial it was actually a re-recording of that song.....so that dennis did not have to jump thru hoops getting permission from the publisher and anybody else involved.
now, I dont know what kind of financial agreement he was obligated to with any of the other band members as he is tecnically listed as the only writer.
but nobody can really stop you from using a song if you re-record it.......the kicker is that you cannot get out of paying to use it either.....so if styx wants to release this show on dvd....no problem but it will boil down to whether it will pencil out financially for them to make money once they cover all of the costs.....and some of those costs will be paying DDY since he is a writer on some of the material that will need to be used.
