Dennis Deyoung and Pat Benatar

Postby cittadeeno23 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 4:06 am

It looks like Dennis is joining Pat Benatar for some dates this summer.
It's being billed as Pat Benatar and Dennis Deyoung, so obviously Dennis is opening.
Does anyone know how I can find out (before I buy Tickets) how long of a set Dennis is going to have?
Obviously he's not going to get the 2 hours he's been playing when he headlines. Which sucks. His show is AWESOME.
Anyway he is basically coming to my backyard. (the hills behind my house) to the Mt. Winery in Saratoga California.
He NEVER comes near my house so I have to go see him. But if he is only going to get a 45 minute set I'm not sure I want to shell out several hundred dollars to basically go to a Pat Benatar concert.
Does anyone know how I can find out how long his set list is going to be? I called the venue and they are as clueless as can possibly be.

Thanks!

Probably 90 minutes. I believe that was the split when Benatar toured with Blondie. I think Berlin and Scandal Combined for 90 minutes also when I saw them open for her a few years ago.

that might be a cool show. Wish he'd throw some 100YFN in there, but I'm sure it'll be the hits kind of thing.

Isn't being a headliner advantage enough? You get to close. Do you really need an exhorbinant amount of time more than the opener? Isn't 120/90 minutes enough? To me, 120/45 is too much of a disparity. Maybe that would be the case if the opener were an up and coming group....but in the case of Pat and Styx - Pat is the new comer.

Dennis is probably happy just to tour with someone who might draw a few thousand people a night. Benatar has been happily touring to those types of crowds over the last decade, keeping herself as the headliner but splitting the stage time pretty evenly.

He's playing at the Mountain Winery?!!!! That's excellent! I was kinda hoping Styx would play there again, but their going the way of Shoreline. Great news though.

Just because someone goes on first doesn't mean they are an "opening" act.

Great to see that Dennis is starting to expose his incredible band to larger markets. Would love to see him tour with Journey for the second leg of the Eclipse tour in 2012

I could care less if he "opens" or "closes". I just want him to get a full set. But I did just find out from the venue that the last band has to finish by 10:30 the latest so that means he will probably only get an hour to 90 minutes. Which means he has to cut his 2 hour show short.
That's too bad. But I'll most likely go anyway. This is the closest Dennis has ever been to my house. Including when he was in Styx.
I'm assuming he will cut out a few Tommy songs and probably Desert Moon. And maybe Don't Let It End or Show Me The Way.

The last time he toured with Benatar was 1997 with Styx. I remember Benatar got about an hour and Styx I know got 2 hours. I remember hearing that Benatar and her hubby were complaining that they had a short set!

If Dennis doesn't perform by you, I think you need to take a few road trips to see his shows :)

Hi Suite,
I went across the country to see him once (Morristown, NJ) and drove 500 miles to see him in February of this year.
This is the first time he has come to my town. So I'll go. I just want him to be on stage as long as possible!

She has a longstanding reputation of being a fairly unprofessional diva and nut. Doesn't show up on time, cuts things short when she doesn't "feel it," skips out on things she's previously agreed to do . . . all of that type of shit. Find the promoters of last year's Moondance Jam and ask them what THEY think of her, LOL.

I knew it was a matter of time that a DDY-hater would bring that up not knowing the whole story.

I'm not a DDY hater. Just think he got corny over the years. I was a fan back in the 70s. As for not knowing the story, your right I don't know the whole story. I really don't know any of the story but would like to know what happened. I was not blaming him for the problem (if there was one) but thought I heard something back then.

i also remember reading that pat wasn't very happy opening for styx back in 97. not sure why, i think it had to do with the fact she doesn't consider herself an "opening act"- or maybe she just isn't a styx fan. ::shrug::
