The CD is for Sale at DDY.com

Postby classicstyxfan » Fri Nov 14, 2003 9:51 am

As of today the DeYoung store at dennisdeyoung.com is offering for sale / taking orders for the 2 CD set we have all been promised
for some time!

I believe I will be the 1st on my block to own one.....I'm documenting the purchase date here, and will post on this thread when it arrives at my home......I chose the "rush" shippping option.

Now, if Soundstage would only offer up the DVD on it's site, I'll be set !

for all of you who have been waiting....get in line ( right behind me, that is.......)

I ordered mine on Nov. 12th from his website. I chose the regular shipping as I thought the shipping was way overpriced and didn't know what "rush" meant anyway. Should be here in a few days.

Pat, curious what the "regular" Shipping charge was, would you share ? Had I known Rush Shipping would be $14.95, I would have gone the other direction....speaking of Directions, for $14.95
I'm half expecting a call fron Dennis asking for directions to my house !

Short of a personal delivery, I'm feeling like I got hosed on that charge.........

The "standard " shipping is $4.95. Great visual of Dennis at your door with a box of CD's handing you your CD and asking where the next address is on his list of "rush" shipments!

I thought maybe it would be personalized by Dennis for that price too but I guess not. Can't wait to hear it though.

Well, as soon as some of you receive your CD, you'll have to provide me with a very objective review. While I'm about 75% sure I'm going to purchase this CD, simply because of the awesome track listing, I'm a little lukewarm on the whole orchestra thing. I didn't care for the version of Grand Illusion on Ultimate Collection at all. It sounded very cheesy, in my opinion, and very far removed from the song I fell in love with. Just downloaded the clip of Lady from the DDY website as I typed this, and I'm now only about 60% sure.

ek, I agree with your assessment of GI on ultimate collection.....I havent heard it on a great Stereo cranked, but on my usual hi-fi ( in my van )
it doesnt have the bite that made the song great......

If it isnt what I hoped for, I'll be listing it on e-bay, but I'll give it several spins before I draw any conclusions.....

Real bad!

Postby ChicagoSTYX » Wed Nov 19, 2003 12:28 am

You can listen to parts of the songs on his website. After listening to them I will not be buying this CD. I thought it would be much better then it is. The new songs are really bad. What happened to Dennis DeYoung? I can see why this CD is only for sale through his website! After all the hype from some people on this board I thought I would give this CD a chance. For me or any other true fan of Styx music, Dennis has nothing to offer. At least we can still go to a Styx concert and hear the music the way it was ment to be heard. Rock and Roll. Dennis has become his own Doctor Righteous!

Hey I respect that this isn't for everyone, but I totally disagree with the comment about the music being heard the way it was meant to be. I really like the 3 new songs, they are not really bad. I do agree that you should listen to the clips before buying. I can tell you, the cd sold out at the concert and most people who have heard really do like it.

Dennis has a lot to offer. If this isn't your thing, so be it. But for me, I'd definitely rather hear the songs this way than with the current lineup. Just my opinion. No flames meant. I really don't like their sound these days. Sorry.

I no longer judge a potential CD Purchase by 30 second clips from a website.....I did this with another favorite artist of mine, and decided I didnt like what I heard....6 months later I bought the CD on a whim, and my opinion is completely different.

The quality of the 30 second snipets on the web does not do justice to most music IMO. The jury is out for me until I hear the whole CD......

And, if you are buying it expecting it to sound like Styx, save yourself the trouble, it's going to be a different take on music we are already familiar with......thats what makes it interesting to me.

I just want to get the damn CD, and then I can make up my own mind. I have heard Dennis is flying around the country to deliver the rush orders in person. There is also a rumor that he, and Mike Eldred are taking the Greyhound to deliver the regular orders. Since he has probably had around 500 orders 100 being rush orders,I expect my CD will arrive somewhere around the 20th of September 2004. I have used a very sophisticated formula to try and come up with the CD's arrival date at my home. To summarize my formula, I am figuring Dennis will not be flying at Thanksgiving or Christmas, You must then factor in A squared plus B squared = c sqrared, then gas prices must rise around spring break time, and he will probably be doing around 5 concerts this year. Using the above information, and adding to it Newton's laws of physics, and sutracting his exact amount of orders with Cyclorama sales figures I came up with the September 20 CD arrival date. Will I be right????

Ive been searchin for any old MS Funk album for years. The current Vegas odds are even money I find an MS Funk album before either of my DDY Greatest Hits CD's arrive. I NEVER heard back from WTTW's Irene. I now believe Irene was an alias. Her real name is Dawn Marie. 6 Yogis Yellin- Thats AWESOME!!!!!! If the DeYoung family's CD burner is broken there is going to be 500 really pissed off fans. I guess we all now know what to get Dennis for Christmas.Anyway, Iam now anxiously awaiting to see what Classic has in the mail tomorrow!

Hey Classic,
What if my CD arrives regular mail before yours arrives with rush order delivery. If that happens that could really spice up your song. It may then turn into a song with explicit lyrics. You would have to put a sticker on it. May the Deyoung Family lose your order. I want your song to draaag on!!!

I'm starting to wonder if they did lose my order........anything over a week makes the term "Rush" seem like a complete sham........or is that scam ? and I would be VERY interested in knowing if anybody gets their non-rush order before mine arrives...... the I can file a dispute with my credit card company for the rush portion of the charges. :x

anyway, my lack of faith has already inspired the next 3 verses...so y'all come back tomorrow !

I have done a little investigating today about the DDY CD and why NONE of us who ordered it have received it yet. Here is what I found out. Yoko's older brother for years worked for the US Postal Service. After he retired, he worked an additional 4 years for UPS. Starting in the middle of November the mail gets REALLY crazy. All of the workers are under tremendous stress. Yoko knowing this first hand has decided to give them a HUGE break. The Rush Orders will ship out sometime mid January, or early February at the ABSOLUTE latest. If you ordered by regular delivery expect your CD to arrive sometime before Easter. Hey, NO one needs to be ripping on Yoko. Her heart is in the right place. We do not need ANY more senseless postal shotings. Also, those of you who ordered RUSH shipping as a Thank you from Yoko and The Entire DeYoung Family you will be given RUSH shipping at no EXTRA charge if you order Yoko's book in the next 48 hours. What a deal!!!!!!!!!!!

There's good news and there's bad news........

The good news must be given with truth in advertising in mind......IN truth, on the 10th day, my Dennis DeYoung live hits CD did arrive in the mail....it was sent via UPS 2 day air, and if thge invoice inside the envelope is to be believed, I was not charged for rush shipping ! ( perhaps someone close to the DeYoung camp is lurking here ? perhaps they want to see what the "faithful" think of the effort ? )

The only bad news is, no more versus to my little ditty will be necessary....Madame was next on my hit list, followed by 12 Reluctant Legends. I enjoyed the creative process while it lasted. Now I'm off to have my 1st listen !

OK, 1st run through is complete........In my opinion, this is a MUST OWN
for any fan of Dennis. If you are a fan of Styx, you probably should have this for your collection as well, with this one caution...it is NOT Styx, for the most part, it does not Rock up to that level. It has moments that
you will enjoy if you turn it up though.

The performances are very tight for a live show with an orchestra.....I was pleasantly surprised by the vocal harmonies on many of the Styx tunes. I'm not saying the voices blend as well as Tommys and Dennis do, but the vocalists hit ALL the high notes, and in most places, the mix is good enough to hear the vocals well. The guitarist has some fine moments...he wont make you forget Tommy or JY, but he does all right.

Most of the orchestral arrangements do bring something new and fresh to the Styx songs, but there are several moments where the additions detract from rather than add to a song. I'm going to listen again before stating which songs and parts fit this description.

The low points of the release are definately the Hunchback songs, Ave Maria and With Every Heartbeat ( this was by the way my 1st exposure to any Hunchback music ) Perhaps these songs sound better in the context of the entire work.....as stand alone, I could do without them though.

For me, the HIGH POINT of this release are the songs Black Wall and My God can beat up your God....these both would have been GREAT Styx songs, and stand upi to DDY's best solo work. I do like Hello God and Goodnight my love as well. Dennis should take these 4 songs, write about 5 more in the same vein, and cut a studio record !

To those who judged this music by crappy 30 second streamed samples on the web....it's your loss. To those on the Fence, I'd encourage you to take the plunge and buy this, I dont think you will regret it. I'm looking forward to others reviews...pleas share your opinions when you get this.
