These two actually work really well....I think fans will be impressed.

I am happy to hear that Andrew. I am looking forward to hearing the CD and your review of it. :D

It seems to me that when Cyclorama was this close to being released Tommy had put a few songs out there for us to hear. So far nothing. I wonder if this might have something to do with the CD being released by a major label this time.

FROY: You have no idea what my review is going to be.
ADAM: Oh, I think EVERYONE is COMPLETELY SURE what your review will be. You've reviewed it enough already...just like you've reviewed Styx live for 6 years.

FROY: We shall see what comes from the Styx Cover CD
ADAM: Just as we shall see what comes of the next DDY disc

FROY: ...there copying other people......Carrying on what other peoples music Thats a winner

ADAM: Hippie's spot on. How is 10 On Bway a good concept if "copying other people" and "Carrying on other peoples music" is a loser?

Covers albums are nothing but lame desperate attempts to release product when your own songs aren't selling.

I'm back :)

I can't review the cd, to be honest it wouldn't be a fair review because of my personal feelings. I didn't like it because of the songs chosen and I knew I wouldn't like it because of the current line-up. So I don't want to bash every song because of that. But I will say JY's singing on "It Don't Make Sense" was the worse thing I've ever heard, I'll even hear my old Shaun Cassidy's album over and over than hear that again - LOL

Andrew, Larry is the one singing "Can't Find My Way Home", right? The song is pretty good, but the singing is a little to high pitched, to me. I think if Tommy was singing on lead it would've sounded better. I hope that's not Tommy's voice - LOL

Also, in the 1980's, a band covered "Can't Find My Way Home" and it was AWESOME!! I can't find out who sang it and I have a bet going on. I'm saying it was the band Badlands. Does anyone know???? It's driving me crazy.

I challenge everyone to think back to a time, perhaps early in your music appreciation, when you heard something and HATED it...only to later change your mind and decide that you really like it after all.

This is a problem television has. If a show doesn't have INSTANT ratings it's jettisoned off the air. In this IMMEDIATE GRATIFICATION world of ours, decisions are made instantaneously which "stand" forever. (Because of that, many many great projects aren't given a chance to develop, to grow on us, and have gone unheard & unseen.)

Prejudice. PRE-JUDGING. You’re mind is made up in advance. Music? Who listens?

Just like Froy announcing for 6 years how awful a band is WHICH HE’S NEVER SEEN, much of this comes down to which “side” you’re on. If you prefer Dennis, you AUTOMATICALLY hate “Big Bang”. The content matters not. And if you prefer Tommy, you’ll at least BEGIN with an open mind.

ItsMyLife: Covers albums are nothing but lame desperate attempts to release product when your own songs aren't selling

Adam: I wonder how “ItsMyLife” would feel about “Big Bang” if DDY (or Jon BonJovi) were a part of it? Might she give it a chance? And I wonder if 10 On Broadway is okay in “ItsMyLife’s” book?

There are quite a few songs & bands that I heard and hated right away. Before I was married and I was dating my now husband he was a total metal head (and still is), I was still into (and still am) the 80's music, ya know Styx, Journey, Night Ranger, Loverboy (Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc LOL) anyway, we would be playing Sheepshead every weekend and they'd play that loud Metallica, Megadeth, Guns & Roses, Accept, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, etc. I hated that music and especially when they dragged me to the concerts. Well, I got used to hearing it and actually love some of the songs and I also enjoy going to the concerts, especially in my bright pink pastel shirt - LOL

That's my little story of the day :)

The first Styx song I ever heard was Mr. Roboto and I thought it sucked. Then came Don't Let It End, which didn't thrill me very much. Shortly after, a friend of mine bought Caught In The Act and played it constantly. Of course, the first song he ever played was Music Time (groan). However, at his insistance I listened to the rest of the tracks and even ended up borrowing it at one point in time, and then eventually grew from there into the Styx fan I currently am.

Had I let my first impressions of the first 3 Styx songs I'd heard dictate whether or not I'd give the rest of their music a try, I probably wouldn't be a huge Styx fan today. Incidentally, I listen to Mr. Roboto more today than I did back then (and even get into it a little bit) and I actually like Don't Let It End. (My first impression of Music Time was dead on -- groan).

Ya know... I'm pissed.

Iron Maiden is part of Ozzfest...... but they're skipping the last 7 shows... including the NASHVILLE date.

I would LOVE to go seem some old school metal in Iron Maiden.... but they don't care enough to come to my town as part of a tour they comitted to doing. Idiots. :)

Ash, I guess the old guys just cant tour as long as they used to, can they ?

Maybe the Mrs. of the boys in the group put their foot down and said the boys in Iron Maiden had to spend part of their summers with them and the kids ????

Well said Adam!!! I HATE that about television!

There are many songs by bands from the Styx era (Styx & DDY included) that I just didn't get when I first heard them; then later came to love. That's the nature of complex rock. Sometimes it jumps out at you, sometimes you have to absorb it a bit.

Adam: You said it! I can't imagine ANYONE knowing what the hell they were listening to the first time they heard Strawberry Fields Forever, Come Sail Away or just about ANYTHING by Yes (Roundabout, Close To The Edge, Owner Of A Lonely Heart).

(By the way, this pertains to "classical music" appreciation for me. I'm often bored & fidgety the first time I hear something in that vein...but I'm better equipped to make a judgement after a number of listens.)

Ah, but we are in a fast paced age. Who among us listens INTENTLY to new music? Seems to me that many of us of the 'Classic Rock' crowd quit listening 20 years ago...

And on that note, does anyone wonder what Froy's reaction to "Big Bang Theory" will be?

It's not that I'm excited about the covers cd, cuz given my druthers, I'd rather have a new material cd. But for me at least its something new and the harmonies and playing styles of the guys is wha I enjoy.

But I can't see trashing any cd before its out.

"Love is the Ritual" Great song!

The same is very true with radio, as well. I tried for weeks to get my local AC station to play DeYoung's "Hello God" when it was released, with no luck. The station manager finally told me that they didn't play it because it didn't perform well in other markets. I sent him a polite (if cold) reply, thanking him for letting his listeners make their own decisions about the music they heard on the station. Funny, I've not heard from him since.

My take on covers--I don't usually care much for them, although I am occasionally surprised. To me, they're like movie sequels--rarely if ever as good and constantly compared to the original.

As for 10 on Broadway, I love this! But then I'd never heard most of these songs before, although I knew several by name. Even now, the only one I've ever heard (other than on this release) is "Pilate's Dream" which I've since heard in live & recorded versions of Jesus Christ Superstar (and NO I didn't get to see DeYoung in the production). But, then I don't really consider these covers. I guess in my mind anything from a Broadway show is free game after awhile, kind of like Christmas music.

Just my unsolicited opinion!

The only thing that appeals to me is that I'm not familiar with these songs, and I have no desire to hunt down all the original versions, whether decent or not. This release gives me a chance to hear some proven songs, performed by a band that I actually follow (versus the original artists).
