maybe "Lord of the Rings", that one I'm not sure about.

If he did, JRR Tolkein's estate should sue him...Cuz, that is NOT a Styx song.

Dog gone it, I always do that all the time with that song and movie/book titles. UGH!!

Is the name "Lord of the Rings" trademarked? Can't you have a song with that title anyway?

Over the years I have seen Styx perform several of these songs in their entirety. They obviously, like many bands, can't play just all deep cuts. Being in radio, I get really sick of *any* band's mainstream stuff and would love to go to concerts to hear all the deep stuff and nothing else. Unfortunately, that is unrealistic. The casual fan has to be satisfied. They make up 80% of a concert audience, not like us freaks who go to five shows a year. :P Frankly, if it's a choice of them performing one or all of them in bits, I'll go for the medley anyday.

Just curious, which songs from Froy's list did you or anyone else on this board see/hear in it's entirety? After 1999, not before.

Midnight Ride, Half Penny ,You Need Love, Crystal Ball, Love In The Midnight, Little Suzie, On My Way, Home Wrecker, Shooz, Great White Hope,
Lords of The Ring, Everything Is Cool, Double Life, Haven't We Been Here Before, Madame Blue, Castle Walls, Pieces of 8, Im Okay,
Why Me, Man In The Wilderness, Superstars

I saw Journey this past summer and they played a bunch of "deep cuts" it was a 3 hour show. I was very impressed, so it wouldn't really be unrealistic. I'm sure there are other "older" bands touring that are going into their deep cuts, they need to, especially if they (insert any "oldie" band/artist) keep playing the same fair ground circuit. I saw and heard the medley and I wanted to hear the whole song, again, I don't like being teased.

I am flabbergasted at the possibility that someone in Corporate America would give a guy who posts things like that online an office.

Let's see: I've heard Half Penny, Crystal Ball(just two weeks ago in fact), On My Way, Everything is Cool, Man In The Wilderness, Suite Madam Blue, Queen Of Spades, Midnight Ride. I'll even add Sing For the Day and Boat on the River, those aren't even on the list...yes, all in their entirety.

I'm guessing you haven't been to a Styx show in a while?

Well, our city got screwed out of a three hour Journey show, so I wouldn't know there. When you play for three hours, of COURSE they are going to have to dig deeper. Journey is also celebrating their 30th Anniversary, they are bound to do something a little special. I've seen Journey several times prior to this and rarely do they do more then two or three deep cuts.

I remember reading that Gowan sang SMB in Canada. Where and how long ago Gowan do QoS? I love Crystal Ball.

How long ago for Man In The Wilderness? Was it the longer version? I can't remember if I heard them sing it live. I LOVE "Sing For The Day" & "Boat on The River".

I'm a DeYoungian. I no longer do the Carrot Styx concerts.

BUT, I think the last Carrot Styx show was last year - front row, right in front of Gowan. I was pelted with JY picks, which is kind of funny. I've seen them a few too many times - LOL

I can also add "Lights". Love the song, Love Tommy's songs, but it sure wasn't the same without Dennis. Most of the Pre-1998 songs were all written for the 3 harmonies, more useless STYX information and that's what made STYX very special, was the 3 harmonies, Dennis, Tommy and JY.

I read your Journey story on the Journey board here and the Back Talk or whatever that one is called.

There has to be other bands that go deeper in their catalogs of music, aren't there? Or do they all continue to keep playing the same songs over and over and over?

Me three! Sounds like fun.

I am going to need more than a sixer if Lovely Rita comes thru my area. I need to fuel up and then go outside and figure out how to keep a 300 year old oak from falling on my house.

What do I save first? The computer CPU or my music collection? My Guild guitar or my Gibson guitar.

Oh the heck with it. Pass me another Busch!!

There was a period of time back in 1999/2000 when their shows were upwards of 2 1/2 to 3 hours. That's when I first heard Man In The Wilderness. One of *the* best shows I've ever seen of Styx was at the legendary Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake IA, the place Buddy Holly last played. 1800 people and we were level with the stage with just a piece of rope separating us from the band. They played three hours that night with a half hour acoustic set in the middle including Glen singing Buddy's True Love Ways, a few Damn Yankees tunes, Boat On The River and Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough. *sigh* I definately wish they would do those kind of shows again! That was heaven!

Well that shows what little you truly know, because I've been to 31 shows in the last six years and only two before that and those were the only two with Dennis. NONE of those songs you listed were played with Dennis. Maybe Babe was, but I think I was in the bathroom.

Yeah, I noticed their nazi moderator has deleted all of them. Kudos for the ability to censor the stuff you don't like to hear!!

SuiteMadameBlue wrote:There has to be other bands that go deeper in their catalogs of music, aren't there? Or do they all continue to keep playing the same songs over and over and over?

Actually there are, but they are probably some of my favorite bands that people here would scoff at. I'm a HUGE Fixx fan and the last time I saw them, they dug really deep and played a lot of songs I never thought I'd ever hear live. Chris Isaak is another one. Granted, he doesn't have that many big hits, but whenever I see him, he goes way back into a lot of his archived stuff. One of my other favorites is Pat Benatar and like I mentioned before about anniversary tours, back in 1999 on her 20th, she played a LOT of deep stuff like Precious Time and Wurthering Heights, which I heard she put back in the show this year too. I also heard she put Painted Desert in this year which is my all time favorite Pat song and I would DIE to hear live, but I didn't get to catch her tour this time. A prime example is Hit Me With Your Best Shot....she HATES that song with a passion and I was at a show once where she didn't play it and OMG....I thought there was going to be a riot! I just think that when you have a band with so many hits like Styx or Journey, or even like the Stones or Bon Jovi etc. there are SO many songs people *have* to hear it's hard for them to pick some deep ones to make everyone happy. I think Styx did the best they could be coming up with the medley thing. I DO think however that JY could give up Miss America and put Half Penny Two Penny back in or throw in the Great White Hope or something once in a while.
