First off when I think about this comment, I just chuckle, because when was JY really good for the band on a level that Dennis was, and what did JY REALLY do for the band.
Then of course you have to think about how BABE, then Paradise Theater brought a whole new audience to the band..and this was of course after TGI, and mostly because of Dennis' contributions..if really not soley.
I just find this statement to maybe be one of the dumbest things JY has ever said.
Then too later, like it or not, Dennis had two large hits from Kilroy..one of which is huge today with 'pop culture'
When I hear JY talk today like he does about Dennis, it's like, why did he even then join Dennis for EOTC? Well..$$$$$$$$
Then from that, Dennis did very well with 'Show Me The Way'
I just don't think JY realizes how stupid he sounds when he dogs on Dennis, somoene who put Styx on the map, from every angle..beginning with when Lady finally got airplay. Someone who hasn't done shit for the band dogs someone who has done everything for the band that made it what it WAS.
Like it or not, you cannot disagree that most of Styx' success' were Dennis'.

You and most everyone else here know absolutely ZERO about what it was like to be in JY's shoes throughout all of this so why continue making comments on it. Nothing burns me more than someone from the outside thinking they have this all figured out and always question...why does JY still say this and that and what a stupid fool he is and blah blah blah... JY was a huge part of making Styx what it was. Who wrote what and who had the hits are only pieces of a much larger puzzle. Without all of the pieces, it doesn't work.

No, YOU are wrong, sir. JY is a no talent has been who has rode a mighty wave that he was lucky as hell to catch. He is an inferior guitarist, a shitty songwriter, and an even worse vocalist. You could have replaced him with just about any halfway decent guitarist and Styx would have been just fine. Actually, they would have been better because you would have gotten one more DDY and TS song per album and not had to deal with the likes of Eddie, Great White Hope, Miss America, Midnight Ride, etc. etc. You would have also not had JY's off key background vocal screeching ruining what were some decent songs (Lonely People anyone?)

Am I supposed to take this seriously?

I have more insider info than some, but I didn't walk in anyone's shoes. Hell, I was not even 6 when Styx hit it big.

JY, whether people think his singing and songwriting is subpar, is a big component of Styx. It is pretty well documented he did do a bunch of stuff behind the scenes when it came to the business of Styx. It's also pretty well accepted in the studio, DDY was the one leading things. In a successful band, everyone has a role.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: JY's voice is the glue in the classic Styx harmonies with TS and DDY. Take his voice out and it'll be a tad different. Is he a great songwriter? I don't think anyone will claim he is, and he is largely a one trick pony more often than not.

Trust me when I say that certain songs which are sung by DDY or JY were not necessarily sung by that person initially. For example, JY originally sang the "I thought that they were angels ..." out verse of CSA, but by the time they recorded, everything was Dennis.

It's also very clear that through Po8, they were very much a band. There's a sound to everything through 1978 that sounds like a band writing and recording together. If you listen to Cornerstone on, it's very much individual songs with minor contributions from everyone else. Welcome to success.

Styx is a band that had ... wait for it ... a bunch of individual egos. They lasted for nearly 20 years (going back to the TW4 days) before they went their separate ways in 1984. The Beatles run was just about 10 years. It's not a bad track record, folks.

It's very easy to play armchair quarterback 20 years later. Styx does it too (i.e. DDY admitting he probably shouldn't have pushed Kilroy too much, et al.). However, even if key events had changed, I don't think we'd have a very different outcome. At some point, whether it was substance abuse (which DID contribute to the band's demise in 1983/4), egos, money, creative differences ... they would have gone away or someone would have quit.

Think about your own personal lives: are there people you were once close with that you are no longer close with or may even hate? Why? Styx is no different. They're just guys in a band. I'm sure if I spent most of my time for 10 - 15 years with the same guys day in and day out I'd get a bit annoyed and testy, too.

Bullshit! When Bush announced we were invading Iraq he said it was because of the broken U.N. resolutions, suspected WMD's and a dozen other reasons. If you want to say Bush lied about Iraq's WMD's I'll pull out dozens of quotes from Democrats as well as foreign leaders that said Iraq had them also. (
7 Wishes wrote:Guess what? More than a few of them are MUCH more dangerous to American security than Hussein ever was. Kim Jong, anyone?

Okay, let's talk about Kim Jong Il.
On Nov. 7, 1993, Bill Clinton said, "North Korea cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear bomb."
It was at the Geneva talks that the Clinton Administration bent over and grabbed the ankles, despite the death of Kim Il Sung on July 8, 1994 (at which time his wacko son Kim Jong Il inherited "supremepower") The "Agreed Framework" was signed by the U.S. and N.K. on Oct. 21, 1994 in Geneva. The Framework promised, "to reward Pyongyang's breaches of international nuclear safeguards by giving it more nuclear power stations." Yes, the Clinton Administration gave in to the demands of a deceiveing, nefarious, nuclear-hungry, gulag-building, people-starvin, Communist regime.

Not only were the nuclear reactors pledged. Clinton also agreed to supply N.K. with 500,000 metric tons of fuel oil annually, as well as tons of grain- all in return to "freeze" all nuclear weapon ambitions. Clinton even provided N.K. "with a written assurance that the US was not comtemplating launching an attack or seeking the destruction of N.K." Kim was home free!

How could N.K. experience one of history's deadliest famines during the 90's while receiving tons of aid/grain from America? The U.S. as Newsweek reported, "did not know where most of the food was going after military trucks hauled it away." Turns out, most of the food went to the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea army, and Clinton happily looked the other way, eager to shore up his reputation for "diplomacy" and "engagement" with adversaries.

In Feb. 1997, Madeline Albright had officially shrugged off any concerns about N.K. deception, bragging, "The Framework Agreement is one of the best things the Administration has done because it stopped a nuclear weapons program in N.K."

On Aug. 31, 1998, N.K. launched a 3 stage Taepo Dong-1 rocket, with a range of 1,500-2,000 KMeters, over Japan, landing off the Alaskan coast.

On Sept. 12, 2004 Albright was on with Tim Russert on "Meet the Press"

Russert: "But didn't N.K. develop a nuclear bomb on Bill Clinton's watch?"

Albright: "No, what they were doing, as it turns out, they were cheating...The worst part that has happened under he Agreed Framework, there was these fuel rods, and the nuclear program was frozen. Those fuel rods have now been reprocessed, as far as we know, and N.K. has a nuclear capability."
Huh, cheating? the North Korean's? who woulda thunk? Yeah there's a mess to clean up there, it was left for Bush. Would you like to dispute any of these facts?

7 Wishes wrote: when "confronting" North Korea, which is as clear and present a danger as the Soviet Union EVER was under any dictator up to and including Andropov). You can't win this one, dude.

Unless you have a good explanation for the above, I think I already won.

SHUT UP, you ignornant MORON.

Funny how some "tolerant liberals" are actually very intolerant towards anyone who doesn't agree with them. Just because the other poster has some patriotic opinions does not make him a ditto-head, and telling someone to shut up just because you don't agree with what they are saying is the epitome of ignorance. Living in a democracy means sometimes having to listen to things we don't like...like current Styx!

Yeah!

Hey...waitaminnit... ;-)

Seriously tho. I gotta say, I...*gasp* agree with Rajah on this one. Bush is an ASS (that's 2 times in the last month, if you're counting). I gave that man more "chances" than Magic Johnson had bedmates. I'll leave it at that for now. But I also agree that name-calling and idiotic insults don't exactly help your cause. Ask Hillary & Obama. lol...

But hey, if you guys want to *really* get into a heated discussion, sign up to a mailing list which discusses children or animals. Those loonies are bat-shit crazy! They make us look completely tranquil and rational. We are but a mere kiddie pool overlooking a sea of retardation.

Okay enough with the politics and name calling!! Sheesh!

Here is a Styx Trivia, I guess that it does have to do with politics - LOL

What members of "Classic Styx" met with which president back in the "hey day" of Styx? Which member or members did NOT meet with that president and why?

I don't care what party is elected, we are not leaving the 2nd biggest world oil supply to generate more money for terrorists or Iran to take over. As far as Saddam not having WMD'S he killed 300,000 Kurds with them. He had Russian special ops in his country . The news showed a Russian convoy of 55 semi's leaving in the north as we entered in the south. What do you think was onboard? Saddams dirty underwear? We know it is buried in the Becca Valley and you can bet Isreal keeps an eye on it. Just yesterday Russia told Iran they are not giving them the material to start up the reactor the Russians just built them until Russia finds out more about their weapons secrecy. Hey, Russia wake up !

Yeah, kind of like all the civil liberties Bush has stolen from Americans under the guise of "patriotism" and "protectionism".

Your responses are very intelligent, RaiderFan, but they are extrapolated from right-wing sources and don't tell the whole story. I'll respond (respectfully) to your post when I have more time.

7 Wishes wrote:No, not that story. The terrorism issue.

Bush didn't cause terrorism if that's what you're going to say. The first acts of violence against the U.S. by radical Muslims happened in the late 1700's by Barbary pirates.

In the book ''Victory in Tripoli,'' Joshua London writes about the Muslim Barbary pirates. They attacked American shipping vessels in the 18th century, often boarding ships and enslaving crewmembers. Thomas Jefferson, then U.S. ambassador to France, and John Adams, then ambassador to Britain, visited the resident ambassador from Tripoli (modern-day Libya) in London to negotiate a treaty to protect American ships from Barbary pirates. Why, asked Adams and Jefferson, is your government so hostile to the fledgling United States of America? After all, we have no quarrel with you, nor you with us.

The Tripolitan ambassador told them – as reported to the Continental Congress – ''that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman [Muslim] who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise."

Yes, they are that ''sadistic.'' And yes, we are ''really in for a long and awful war.''

Not your fault. Never in a million years would this history be taught in our government run school system. Political correctness is more valued than any facts of history that we may learn from.

I actually fear what happens when Bush is out of office. Look at the current pool of candidates. There is not ONE with solid christian principles (democrat or republican). On the Democrat side we have Hilary "Vince Foster" Clinton, Barack Osama the muslim, and sleazy John Edwards. On the republicans we have catholic Guiliani, morman Mitt Romney, and uber liberal John McCain. What ever happened to sin?!

We are all still fortunate enough to live in a nation where we can openly discuss (and often argue) about topics that range from when exactly JY became a dick to world politics. I respect everyone's right to having their own opinion. However when it comes to dealing with Islam, one needs to look no further than the countries that are already under Muslim 'rule'. How free are those countries? Where is the latitude for JY -vs- DDY debate? This is a battle that has been going on since the 7th century. If you choose to believe that we are not in this for a long time, I envy your ignorance. I'm not sure exactly what the best solution is and don't profess to. This much is certain. Once a country becomes an Islamic majority, all other points of view are eliminated. The muslims are a patient people. They will wait us out. The reason we have survived as long as we have so far is simply this. We have had the means to destroy our enemy, but not the will. Our enemy has had the will to destroy us, but not the means. Eventually they will have both the means AND the will. I hope we don't live to see the day this happens.

did it ever occur to you that not everybody in this country is "CHRISTIAN?" It's generalizations like this that really piss me off. i'm a jew. i take offense to people spewing about "christian values" and denouncing all of those whose belifes are different than theirs. this country is founded upon the notion of freedom of religion and separation of church and state (supposedly- but i highly doubt it with the current administration) I find it highly insulting that there are people out there with such closed minds that they feel the need to conveniently lable others as "a muslim, catholic, sleazy, uber liberal.....etc in order to discredit their viewpoints. Let's talk about the issues and leave the lables on clothing, where they belong. You have a problem with muslims, jews and catholics? The world isn't just Christians (btw-aren't catholics christian? don't they all believe in christ? ) And for the record, it's my understanding that Obama attended a muslim school, but is a catholic. My children attended a jewish pre-school, but almost 50% of the students are christian or "goyim" ;) does that make them jews?

sorry- this is something that i have a major problem with.
