Im mean reviews that speak of "DeYoung sound alike Larence Gowan" ????

It's people like this who made the phrase "clinically tone deaf" come into existance

This only applies to people paid to write articles and casual listeners, I think. Then again, people are morons.

Actually..quite the very opposite. It's the general fan who goes and expects to hear the hits..most of which were Dennis'

It the fanatic..the true follower of a band who doesn't seem to care who is the lead singer.

No, it's the casual fan sitting next to me at various shows that don't know the difference.

This is what I am saying, the general or casual fan doesn't care. They are there to hear the music.

Give Cyclorama another listen, sit back , relax, forget that it's a Styx record.

I wish I could! Forget, that is... :D

Wow blue pigeon, so you actually bought Cyclorama or took the time to download it? I doubt it.

Agreed, the casual fan isn't going to exactly recognize that the voice is different, because the music and lyrics are the same.

I've never heard any casual fans at a concert question why JY sang Lorelei and not Gowan (in place of DDY)

Die hard fans are the ones that look at each other and say, "WTF?!?!?!"

Gowan and DDY

Postby kipthekid » Thu May 29, 2008 12:40 am

My wife isn't a Styx fan...and she doesn't think that Gowan sounds ANYTHING like DDY...ESPECIALLY live. The only thing they have in common is that they're both tenors.
Can't we all just get along?

I guess if you are a die hard styx fan and your wife goes to a shows with you, she may be more in tune to how you react. I've been to quite a few shows in the last 10 years, and, the general fan's usually will make a comment on how "that guy still sounds great". Some one always turns around and says "that's not DDY". And the look is always like, oh okay , great show though.

the currect styx lineup is a joke.

No, you in your personal subjective opinion think the current Styx lineup is a joke. I'm always amazed at some people's lack of nettiequette in declaring their opinions as though they are fact, instead of saying "I thought", "I didn't like", "in my opinion".

You'd get the same damn point across saying, "I far preferred the original lineup to the current lineup" and not rankle people who appreciate the current lineup in the process.

Some fans just don't care. I remember seeing Metallica back in '92, and I swear to Xenu some guy behind me said "That Cliff Burton still rocks on bass!"
