You can either see STYX, which is amazing or you could go see Dennis sing sappy songs with his wife.

Sappy? Come Sail Away, Suite Madame Blue, Rockin' In Paradise, Black Wall, 100 Years From Now.....to name a few....I guess I missed the definition of what sappy is...

Born For Adventure
This Time Next Year
Rain

all sappy

I would love for Dennis to drop like Rockin The Paradise and replace it with Born For Adventure. As well HE MUST start adding the Queen Of Spades to his show as well!

This Time Next Year lol.. If Hunchback really takes off, thats maybe when 100 Years will be released in the US!! Maybe!

Not a huge follower of Styx (like I used to be,) but I guess if we're keeping score of success rate since the DDY/Styx split, we can say that Dennis has been quite more successful with his solo album as opposed to what Styx has put out.

Let's face it. Some singers are just not replaceable. Journey fans still have not been able to agree on a lead singer since Perry left, and I assume it's the same with DeYoung.

I haven't followed Foreigner closely in years, but I've heard nothing but positive things for Kelly since he took over as front man.

Makes you think how important being the "voice" of a band was for the successful era of these arena rock bands.

Dennis has got to be the sappiest writer trying to pass himself off as a rock star, come one "babe" what the hell is that.
By the way all Dennis did on come sail away was add the piano intro.
In other words, he along with the other guys in Styx made it what it was and then he wreaked it with "Babe". Now Styx have been getting rid of the sappy label Dennis put on them, and they're doing one hell of a job by being way better than they ever have before.

Actually, yes they did...or I should say Mick Jones did. After Lou left,(or was unceremoniously asked to leave-however you wanna look at it)Mick Jones said he wanted to do things different. Lou wasn't the only one in the band to leave or get booted. There were several others who'd been with them for ages who aren't with them anymore.

I am not much of a follower of Foreigner. Only know some of their stuff casually, but always liked those songs. Anyway, how was the loss of Lou and the direction the band has taken without him, and the others mentioned by Angie above, taken by the fans? Is there animosity about it? Or acceptance on the part of their fans?

I really am curious since our discussions here often revolve around bands who have lost, dumped, changed, replaced (or what have you) signature voices.

I know I am one who has only heard the Lou Gramm sung songs from this group.

To the diehards, possibly. Speaking on terms of commercial success, haven't seen it at all. Dennis has been quite successful with his latest effort. Certainly Babe was the fluff of fluff, but that wasn't the only song Dennis has ever contributed.

Well mate.I happen to agree with you about Dennis.BUT.
Look at your own first posts, and a greeting from one of the guys in charge here, Master T-Bone.
You really shoulda caught on.

Well then,if I may...You ever see Styx in the old days?
What's your favorite Styx album?
Did you read the 'Grand Delusion ' by Sterling?

My favorite album is Equinox. After that I thought things went downhill.
I love the Wooden Nickle years.'Serpent is rising' is my all around favorite of those.

Cheerio

I'm not going to quote all the items I'll respond to (pretty much cause I cant figure out how to get more than one quoted), but

1. A little more flesh from Ricky would be lovely.
2. Someone said Chuck was their original bass player.. I thought he was still their bass player, even if on a limited basis.. has he stopped his few appearances?
3. Ricky and/or Chuck may not be as animated as the rest of the band (face it who could keep up with Mr. Gowan without chemical assistance and hopefully they are all long past that) but they are solid and grounded and focused, just a bass player should be..

sorry, I seem to have some kind of strange affection for Ricky.. happens every time someone teams up with Page, can't help but love em

1. Ayup.
2. Nope. Still making appearances, but he is the original bass player too. lol
3. I think the comparison of Ricky and Chuck was with Glen, who I do think managed to keep up with Gowan without chemical assistance. Since Glen's departure, Lawrence does seem even more animated than when Glen was around. I wonder if he held back because of the total craziness on stage at the time.

Sadly, I wasn't paying attention during the Glen era, (although there is a chance that I did see a show when he was with them, can't be sure) I missed out on his stage antics, which from the youtube's that I've seen were quite energetic and entertaining.... guess that 's my loss..

Yes. Like every single one of them save Mick.

BTW I saw Foreigner last year with Def Leppard (oh yeah and the STYX opening band) and thought they were amazing! So much so that I'm seeing them with Bryan Adams this year.

And this got them being the warm up act for an opening band for Def Leppard. Playing seven songs while going through the motions. Everyone around me agreed that Foreigner blew them off the stage. They're not even second fiddle anymore.

Hey but all those creative juices have gotten you 6 more versions of Blue collar man since 2001. :D

The only part of CSA not written by Dennis was the odyssey written by yourself, JY..

tommy shaw wrote the chorus. it came from an MS Funk song called "aint gettin' down" or something similar to that. so, taking that into consideration, and the fact that JY wrote the middle instrumental section, the only thing dennis wrote were the verses and the bridge. hardly the "solo" effort" he's credited for.
