Styx is getting booked so much that they are on the road constantly, at about $100K per gig. Then there's their merchandise, which is pulling in big bucks. Their catalog still sells.

They've headlined at "tiny" venues like the Staples Center in Los Angeles. They have headlined sold out shows at every House of Blues in the US, play all of the big casinos like the Luxor in Las Vegas, and have toured Europe several times now.

But because you don't approve of the lead singer, NINE YEARS later, they're failures. Nice grasp of reality, dude.

Sold out shows?? Catalog still sells?? You're kidding, right? I don't really with froy and I am not taking sides, but, they are no like they are used to, sorry.

First mistake
Try 25 thousand
Thats 3 thousand each after expenses

Really when

They have headlined sold out shows at every House of Blues in the US, play all of the big casinos like the Luxor in Las Vegas, and have toured Europe several times now.

HOB pays 10 thousand per gig

But because you don't approve of the lead singer, NINE YEARS later, they're failures. Nice grasp of reality, dude.

Huge failure
Ever hear Gowan on the radio with an original song inder the STYX name.
You won't see anymore Styx cds now that Glen and Dennis are gone
Take the name STYX away and all you have is Shaw Jimmy and 3 fillers.

YOU. ARE. WRONG. Styx doesn't leave the house for under $50,000. Ever. Fact.

HOB pays 10 thousand per gig

See above. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

So under this logic, without Glen they would never have come out with Cyclorama?

And now that Dennis and Glen are together, the only CD produced is a Glenless, DDY CD.

It's also nice to know that Froy has been hired as the booking agent for Styx. How else would he know their booking fee?

Hey, what do I know about this stuff? After all, I'm only in the music biz. It's not like I sell used cars or anything.

The Staples Center show was a few years ago. It was written about in Rolling Stone, but then, I get the feeling that reading isn't your forte.

Yes, I have. Several songs are played on KLOS, especially on Jim Ladd's show. That's the #1 show in the #2 market in the US, but hey, don't let reality get in the way of your delusions.

The guys in Styx are working constantly and raking in the dough. When they become Internet used car salesmen, THEN I'll consider them failures.

I really should ignore you, Froy, because it's not nice to make fun of the mentally handicapped. Now do us all a favor and GFY.

Styx is a $100k band normally. They do take less and make more depending on the situation.

HOB pays the bands depending on negotiated contract. Not all HOBs are the same size so paying $10k for a no name band to play a small venue is not going to happen.

In Vegas our HOB is not the biggest and not the smallest. In the middle somewhere and the venue grosses almost $200k for a Styx show. Do you think the band is going to take $10k from a gig like this when they know how much the venue made? They do know how to do math.

They generally play Vegas for three nights at hotel showrooms like Luxor, Paris, and LV Hilton and will make over $500k for these 3 shows because of the Vegas premium. Plus, their costs are lower due to being in the same venue for three days.

You don't have to be in Styx accounting department to figure out 3000 seats times $60 is a lot closer to $200,000 than $10,000.

It's really not a big secret. People who book shows get lists of performers and prices. If you work in production, radio, or any other part of the industry, or even have a subscription to Performance magazine, you can easily find out what it costs to book a band.

Of course, this isn't their facts and figures. Anything beyond what it costs for the booking IS private.

And there is the problem, Froy is listening to those little voices inside of his head. The ones no one else hears.

Agreed on both counts. I just find the debate about their expenses, net revenue etc. kind of funny. Unless someone here is actually the Chief Financial Officer for Styx inc. ;-)

I would have to say the only one out of those that could be considered a "hit" would be I Am The Walrus which was played briefly on a few classic rock stations. But in the grand history of Styx, it wouldn't rank in their top 30 biggest hit singles - I'd say its more like a "Nothing Ever Goes As Planned" or a "Queen of Spades" as far as how big a hit record it was. Certainly Fields of the Brave and More Love For The Money were not hit records and A Criminal Mind, while big in Canada, never did anything in the US.

No it's not, you warthog faced buffoon!

SMTW is about looking for direction after disillusionment (a concept you are well-familiar with, but don't actually know it).

FOTB is about what a piece of crap this country has turned into, after everything our ancestors fought for to be here.

Or is it just that the chorus has 4 part harmonies? Oh wait, SMTW has 3 part harmonies! D'oh!

Unless you count the live aca...oh god, let's just sweep that one under the rug, shall we?

Well excuse me Froy.. last time I checked my map the USA was a lot more then Chicago!!

So tell me Froy, when was the last time you heard a DDY-solo song on the radio in Chicago? Does that mean he didn't get any airplay in the USA as well?

Oh and guess what, I bet he doesn't get any airplay in Chicago when he releases 100 Years from now.. whenever that may be (I guess its the fall now, so look for it to be released summer of 09)

Not everyone's like Al Gore and longs for a long lost "Eden" that would have us wearing loincloths and trading wampum with Indians.

As someone who has observed the US over the years, it still may be a great place to live (better then say 95% of the rest of the world) but talk to the people who've been affected by layoffs, natural disasters, increased crime, etc and I'm sure they'll agree that some aspects of living in the US has turned to crap.

Being a Red Wings Fan you should know first hand of the struggles of the city of Detroit right now..

I know. In fact I'm heading into Detroit for a Tigers game on Saturday. :D
The struggles you speak of (outside of natural disasters) are a result of the liberal policies in the city. It's that way in pretty much all the major cities here in Michigan (Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint, Saginaw) I grew up in Flint. There hasn't been a Republican or more importantly, a conservative mayor or major political player there. Liberalism run amok. The result is more dependence which is exactly what libs want.

Ah.. but still I don't think the mayors of those cities that you mentioned have any control of the Auto Manufacturer's closing down plants and such.

Do you think that a Republican or a more conservative Democrat (I know there really aren't those lol) could have been better prepared to run things when the Big three downsize?

Since the late mid 80's I've watched the NBC affiliate from Detroit and I have to say is things have definately slumped, boomed and slumped again.

Here in Canada, we had enough of our Left-wing government and voted them out with a more conservative group, maybe when things get bad enough there in Michigan people will wake up and try and vote for a change for the better.

Maybe McCain is the guy to do that for the US. Whoever takes over, they have a long road ahead of them to get the country's economy back into shape!

Is that the true meaning behind the song? I have not listened to it myself in a long time. If so, how nice of a Canadian to point that out to all of us.
