People coming to see the band expect the old stuff. Of COURSE they do. But if you want people to KEEP coming, you cannot do the same stuff year after year after year after year... Why do you think Styx has thrown High Enough in there? They're trying to keep it interesting but man, they really need some new tunes.

There are a few (other than One With Everything) that they could add from Cyclo for example. People might not know them the first time outta the gate, but damn, the band needs to SELL the songs from the stage too and that energy is contagious.

I dunno, guess they could just do a full show of Blue Collar Man with 20 different versions...

I can understand your point, but when I saw Styx in Nashville at the Ryman right before the release of BBT, they played "More Love For The Money" four songs in, and it caused just about the biggest beer/bathroom break I have ever seen. And when they came out at the end and played four covers in a row, people were leaving as fast as they could leave. The hard truth is yes, the vast majority of fans want ONLY old songs. The whole oldies circuit is based on that. That's why it's the oldies circuit, LOL. There was a time when Styx was trying to fight that, but it seems they realize it now.

Absolutely. They started to focus in on just the songs that got the most requests. They narrowed the playlists, then narrowed them again. Now the average classic rock playlist seems to consist of about 30 songs, and of course we're all sick of them. I know I can't be the only person who used to love "Stairway To Heaven" who can't stand it any more. Same goes with a lot of that stuff. It's why I lean so much toward album tracks. I wish I would never have to hear "Roxanne", "Hey Jude", "Stairway To Heaven" or "Freebird" ever again in my life. You could take those songs and shoot them into space for all I care. And the sad part is, I know they're all great songs in their own way, I'm just sick to death of them.

Your correct but how about a different version of Hey Jude maybe a demo with no piano and an acoustic guitar as the lead more of a folk song feel. I have it and it's cool. Also STH how about the version from the O2 arena show instead of the same one we have heard for 40 years, That's what is needed different spins of these tunes, Plus different tunes period. I got em and will play them.

Well than he cares about you and that's it because your his only fan. Face it it's only Canadian fans who care about Gowan. Nobody in the US gives a damn about this guy, He has no talent and he is a fill in for Dennis DeYoung. Are ya proud of a guy who just copies someone else Gee real hard to walk in those shoes.

LOL. It's a great song, no debate here. The problem isn't with the song, it's with my having heard it eight hundred trillion times. Kinda like chocolate cake. Who doesn't like chocolate cake? But if you were fed three pieces a day, every day for thirty years, the mere thought of it would make you sick. That's the sad state of classic rock radio.

That seems like it would be worth hearing, absolutely. It also seems like there will be some inherent copyright issues with those unreleased versions, to be honest. If you pull this off it'll be great. If you don't, you'll be posting from the computer in the prison library, LOL.

That is true...but, that also STARTED in the 80's...right at the height of Journey and Styx fandom. So, I absolutely do not believe this is the 'only' reason why radio is such a mess today.

Radio is a mess today because almost every band out there is not even real

Styx Journey ELO Zeppelin The Who, Pink Floyd and many others are all dead bands or cover bands running around using the name. Why promote new STYX when it's not even STYX ? Only the band members pretend they are and radio does not buy it.

Because the music is good. Like I said, I heard Walrus and a couple other BBT songs on the radio when they came.

And, they ARE Styx. Dennis lawsuit and settlement ensured that.

This is only partially true. They also use poll data and such. Funny how not too long ago you made the argument about how advertisers choose songs but now that it's applied to radio, it's a 'bad' thing. Sounds a bit hypocritical to me.
