Actually, the bone of contention was 1996. I believe JY or TS stated somewhere that they could have toured into the fall but Dennis had already done more dates than he agreed to initially do or something like that. The 97 tour was only supposed to be a summer shed tour as far as I know.

Did Tommy call What If a piece of shit in 1986? No. When you're promoting your latest project under the auspices of the record company, you tend to want to say it's the best thing since sliced bread. You're right - he was critical after the fact, but not saying nice things about it at the time could have potentially hurt sales (which were not that great to begin with ...). A lot of artists do post mortems years later and trash their earlier work.

Good point. I seriously doubt that DDY made those comments just for spite because he and the other members had a falling out.
