I'm glad they found someone that can sing these songs without creeping me out. This way I am able to hear Styx live today. And since DY are gone, I don't mind Styx recording 2 Songs from them. Regarding new songs, difference in the world was a good track, wasn't it? Doesn't that count as new material and if no, why?

The first impression of hearing Gowan sing DDY's songs was he sounded like Dennis had too much helium, or that it was the Chipmunks doing Styx. Now I hear no resemblance at all, isn't that what Styx wanted? Someone who didn't sound like their original lead singer unlike Journey who has Arnel that sounds a lot like Steve Perry? I'm sure Gowan's a talented musician and and a popular guy in Canada, but that's a stretch to compare him to DDY who is a much better singer :?

There aren't many better singers than DDY as far as talent goes.

It's true, sometimes Gowan really is quite off (see: Regeneration vol 1, "come sail away" - what was that?!?), but I still think they are similar. Well, perception is a strange thing. Funny you should mention Journey, since it is my feeling that Arnel doesn't sound at all like Steve. I really like his voice, but it still sounds very different. Only "One more" really made me see steve in arnel.

I agree about perception and I do hear an obvious difference between SP and Arnel, but they are way too similar. I think Journey should have tried to look for the best vocalist for the band instead of the best SP soundalike. Although it has seemed to work out for them. Nothing compared to what they could do with Perry back in the band. Just my opinion.

And everybody is entitled to it. I personally just hate the whole "Arnel's great - Steve is the only one" dispute. Journey should just do what they want.

That's how I see it with Styx and Gowan. In the end it is still me that descides wheter I listen to it or not. As for the live recordings, releasing the same recording more than once is just a rip-off. But I like the little differences in the setlists and songs, so I buy a lot of live recordings. But I also think new stuff almost can't be wrong

Regardless if I think it's a good idea to keep rerecording your own music I will still buy it. I have all their albums... can't stop now.

This is what happens when you throw the primary creative force out of the band.

I'm a collector and they are one of my top three favorite bands, what else should a fan do? I support the band Styx and DDY as a solo artist. I am also in the process of obtaining the SHM-CD's... Pieces of Eight is on it's way. I finally found it for a decent price.

Just give it some more time. I am sure reworked songs from Tommy's Blue Grass album will pop up on one of these Regeneration projects. That would be kind of new.

What is puzzling to me .... is that it doesn't cost a ton to record albums these days. If they're doing these, then they *could* be recording new songs just like they're recording their old ones. These re-recordings can't be selling much better than a new album would anyway - so I'm not sure what gives.

I found the "Walmart isn't going to call" comment a few posts ago interesting. Perhaps they were trying to prime the pump for such a deal to fund a new album? Seems like the wrong way to go.

Tommy's songs off Cyclorama weren't bad. Glen's were good (too limited IMO) and I didn't really care for LG's contributions - even though their cover of IATW was listenable. I'm to the point where I'd probably buy a new Styx record for Tommy's contributions alone. Sadly, I don't think I'll ever get that opportunity.

I really wasn't fond of Glen's songs, although they weren't bad... and like you I didn't care for Gowan's at all (and not because of anything to do with DDY). I liked JY's These are the Times, but not crazy about Captain America. Obviously Tommy's were the strongest with One with Everything being genius IMO. I wouldn't count out a new original album in the future. They have to know the fans want it.

As a fan, tell them this is bullshit by not buying the garbage. If no one buys it, maybe they'll get the clue that the concept is nothing but greed and offends the longtime fans.

The end is near for all these classic bands. They need to get their shit together, record one last CD, do a couple more tours and say "goodnight everybody! You've been great!"

I've supported these bands for years after their prime, but this is getting sad.

not sure why peeps give Gowan's Cyclo tracks a bumb wrap. His and Glen's tracks were the best by a long shot. I thought most of Tommy's tracks were good, but not nearly as good as Gowan and Burtnik's.

I stopped at the Cyclo album. I saw them live before buying it even though the show didn't do much for me. I wanted to give the new line up a chance. From that point on I felt what Styx was (to me) had been lost. Therefore I stopped buying. I still collect classic Styx stuff from time to time but I have mostly everything there is.

I am sure they know that a select group of hardcore fans want a new album. But that doesn't seem to motivate them enough to do it. Thats the problem.
