Zan wrote:Apparently, it is.

It's like this: Dennis has his fans, Tommy has his, JY has his, etc. Some of us like it all, but some of us have our preferences. Some of us have deep emotional ties to the band's legacy, and some of us don't. The band knows this, but in the grand scheme of it all, it's a business before it is anything. We can go back to playing chicken or the egg with regard to the split and water under their bridges (though, I'd rather have a pap smear to be wholly honest), but once lawyers got involved in "Styx," the rules changed. Everyone knew going into the legalities that this would forever change things, for better or worse, and everyone chose to move forward with it because to them, the alternatives weren't working for them (I am NOT laying blame anywhere. All sides had their "stuff" going on. I'm only saying that lawyers needed to be involved because there was no other way to settle their grievances).

To top it off, there are deep resentments among some of the players now, probably have been all along, but now there is no chance of reconciliation. It's sad, but it happens.

Bottom line here is: It is not the band's biggest concern what a few die-hard fans think of Dennis getting the "shaft." It wasn't too long ago that DDY didn't care if T&J got the shaft. Everyone felt shafted, and mostly cared about preserving their own livelihoods above what "we" thought or cared about. Twelve years later, it's just business as usual, Toph. It's genuinely not personal anymore to them. They've just become a separate entity from the thing they created with Dennis many years ago (like it or hate it).

I'm sure that JY and Tommy,if pressed, would admit that they would love it if all the Styx fans in history would side with them and love the current lineup as it is, but they are not that deluded. They get that Dennis was a strong force in the hayday Styx and that there are people who will remain loyal to him. But that's not going to stop them from doing what they need to do.

I have honestly no idea HOW MUCH of the DDY removal is legality-related and how much was personal, but I do know that some of it was certainly a legality issue. They knew some people wouldn't see it that way, but like I said, they're just doing what they gotta do in those cases. They know fans like you exist. They know fans like Froy exist. They also know that they've played hundreds of shows to cheering fans and been paid well for it. For a bunch of guys whose "glory" career ended twenty years ago, that's nothing to sneeze at.

There comes a point, Toph, when people like you and me, who have strong opinions on the subject are faced with a choice: Do we keep beating our drums, saying the same old shit to whoever will listen (but has no ability to help or change anything), or do we accept things the way they are and deal with it?

This board is great for sharing videos and stories and whatnot, but the soapbox stuff is just a waste of time. I think you know that. You and I both know that the band and their management don't give a flip about this kind of stuff, and the rest of us have read it a thousand times over already.

Dude. I could literally spend days pulling posts from members in this forum alone who have "pointed out" this very thing on a steady and regular basis. This posts is one of hundreds, possibly thousands like it, as are the replies. It's no longer an observation, it's an obsession. If it's that emotionally upsetting for some of you, then take some action. Or move on. I promise, you've made your point already.

One of the great things about DDY is that he has moved on, and he seems to be trying to put positive vibes out there. That should speak for itself. The incessant whining & bellyaching doesn't serve him.

This kind of topic has been discussed before in this forum so have other topics. Big deal. If you are not interested in reading others viewpoints because it has been discussed before I have one simple solution for you. Skip over those topics and the conversations\ replies to those posts. BTW, I am not looking to serv+e anyone. Just discussing the subjects here and giving my .02 like everyone else.

This is why I think some of you are retarded. There really is no other explanation.

you, toph, froy all repeat the same things over, and over, and over, and over again. Only people with some kinda of mental illness get anything useful out of that. Do you just forget that what toph said in his first post has been repeated almost word for word, sometimes on a daily basis? If you all were talking like this about the girl next door, you'd be locked up...and that is pretty much a fact.

It's a waste of time to post photos or stories and whatnot. The 'soapbox stuff' ruins any fun that SHOULD be gained from it. I would never post that stuff here - it's a waste of time and just gives the retards something to react to.

Yawn.

The title of the thread gave no indication what is was specifically about. If it had, I would not have read it. There is no pettier bullshit than the majority of stuff that gets "expressed" here. I thought that maybe Toph had finally had his fill of (at least some of) it.

True. Topics do usually take a "turn" for the worse here.

As for the "retards," (there are other explanations, actually) that door swings both ways, based on what I've seen. I'm willing to bet that once upon a time, both camps felt good to see or hear about their loyalists going to bat for them in the forums. Now, I bet they're just embarrassed.

My 2 year old is about to be given a developmental evaluation, by the way. She's late hitting some of her milestones, and she might be one of those retards. Just sharing.

I understand what you're saying. It is just so tiring to read every single thread, no matter what the topic, turn into the same crap.

Example: The photo thread that Marty posted. A thread that started out with some good pics and tips for camera/picture taking...Turns into a gay love fest with Ricky and Chuck. On the old Journey forums, Marty had entire section devoted to picture taking at concerts and was very willing to share tips and examples... to share and help anybody with ANY camera take the best pics they could at a concert. He's a very knowledgeable\ and sharing guy. That type of activity would NEVER happen here because of the ridiculous antics of a few people who insist on ruining the fun for everybody.

As for the 'retard' comment...I don't mean to personally offend you because of your daughter. My niece, who I am very close to, is diagnosed as being mildly retarded. She's 19, but seems to have the maturity of a 13yr old...and she repeats things, over and over again...asking the same questions that have already been answered, and saying things that have already been said - many times. That is the same thing that goes on in this forum, adults acting like children, and repeating the same things endlessly. That comparison does not come lightly to me either...it's just the way it seems to me, and, IMO, is quite valid.

Zan, my best wishes for your daughter. I have spent the last 25 years working with the developmentally disabled, so I am well aware of the challenges, the frustrations, and yes, even the joys. I also loathe the term "retard," as does the community as a whole.

As for posting articles and the like, I enjoy doing so in hopes to be able to discuss the group. I don't have many people personally that I can discuss Styx with, and I was hoping to be able to do so here. Unfortunately, everything keeps getting dragged down the same tired old path. It's really disheartening.

Best wishes for your daughter, Zan. I have a profoundly mentally disabled cousin, and I never used the term "retard" because not only is it an ugly word, it doesn't describe him. He is actually very smart, has a fantastic memory, and can speak in sign language :?

Part of that turn for the worse is those that choose to take the topic in the direction of personal attacks. People that loosely use the term "retard(s)" or use it at all just show their ignorance and immaturity. The crap comes from both sides of the fence here. What is interesting is people that do not agree with someones viewpoint here just can't seem to do the simplest thing and ignore the post\reply. That is the easiest solution if it bothers someone that much.

I don't really care. That's their choice. If it was a real problem I would think Andrew would do something. Like kicking out the people you and some others seem to be concerned about. Don't like what I have to say that is fine. But don't preach to me on how I should or should not respond to the topics discussed here. What is a laugh is that some here think that it is only the people that are not keen about the current Styx that stir the pot. Which is not true.

That is not Andrew's style. He does not have the desire, or the time, to micro-manage a forum like that. He relies on people to have the maturity to do that THEMSELVES. The forum is what people make it - not what he forces it to be.

I said like 4 posts ago:

"As for the "retards," (there are other explanations, actually) that door swings both ways, based on what I've seen."

Exactly who do you think you're replying to?

As for Andrew, he doesn't have time to kick out losers all day long. he has a life. This is common knowledge to anyone who cares to pay attention. And this is your rationale for beating a dead horse? Because other people do it, and nobody has reprimanded or physically stopped you from doing so yet? Seriously? lol

Of course you don't care that people have left. You're too self-absorbed to care. We're not talking about some isolated incident. We're talking about years of seeing threads deteriorate with the same old garbage by the same few people. You can only dismiss it for so long until you finally give up. I don't expect you to understand. Anyone who understood has already abandoned ship.

Personally I think this place is hilarious. Often there is some good information but for the most part I just like to read some of the off the wall shi t that sooooooo many people post. I Love the band and I love the music that they have ALLLL created. But that is it. It is a band nothing more, nothing less. And to read what some of the 'retards' post OVER &OVER &OVER & OVER&OVER&OVER&OVER......... is utterly hilarious. The same point is spun soooooo many different ways its like watching FOX or MSNBC 24/7.

What on earth is going to be said when Styx's February T shirt comes out. This T is due to be released on February 18,2012. On the front it will have a 45 record with the A&M logo and the song Babe on it. Over the top of the 45 it will congratulate the band for their 1979 Grammy for this single. On the back of the T it will have a picture of JY, Tommy, Chuck, John,Ricky,Todd & LG.

Raise the roof 'retards' it is coming soon!!!!

P.S. In ALLLLLL honesty I think that it is very sorry what JY, Tommy & the boyz are doing with the T shirts. Paradise Theatre was DDY's concept and to erase him form this is sad and wrong. But it is what it is....

My 2 year old is about to be given a developmental evaluation, by the way. She's late hitting some of her milestones, and she might be one of those retards. Just sharing.

What is interesting is people that do not agree with someones viewpoint here just can't seem to do the simplest thing and ignore the post\reply. That is the easiest solution if it bothers someone that much.

Do you realize how many people have LEFT or barely participate in this forum in the last few years?. They have ignored the posts/replies. Not very many people left now.

Carry on.

Do you know how many STYX fans have left he building? hundreds of thousands ,

It is referred to today as Special Needs or mentally or physically challenged. Personally I have the privilege almost daily to work with some people that are special needs. The ones I work with are GREAT!!!

But here on this fourm the word 'retard' does still apply!

P.S. Hundreds of thousands have left the building. Many more have died, many are gracing our nursing home facilities, and still many many more have just moved on to other intrests.

It does seem like yesterday. Though, it did take me 2 years to lose the weight. lol
I didn't know you had a special needs son, Froy. It is still very early to tell if JJ's issues are normal or deficient. She's almost 2 and still doesn't speak in words, only sounds: vowels and syllables. She walked early on, and seems to have some grasp at problem solving, but some of her interests don't seem to be advancing too well (she won't stack or line up blocks, for example - she just tosses them around, and she still pulls stuff off shelves, doesn't engage in make-believe or imitation play or anything, and she very seldom responds to her own name, unless there's food involved), but she does pay attention to details on stuff that interests or benefits her, and she plays the drums and xylophone properly (holds the sticks correctly and stuff). She also drinks from a cup (not sippy ciup - she went straight from bottle to cups). It's hard to know what to think. her appointment is scheduled for September 26th for a more in-depth assessment.

Sounds a little like Asperger's. We believe that our godson has this. He will be tested later this month. Besides his delayed speech has is very sensitive to cold, hot and loud noises.
