I think the oldest thing I have is a concert ticket stub from the first Styx show I saw in 1975 or 1976. Tommy was already in the band but Crystal Ball wasn't out yet. I'm not sure what programs I have other than the Kilroy one. Next time I'm at my parents house I should pull down the boxes and take a look. I also know there is an original Paradise Theater Tour jacket in there. Everything that I have I purchased at the original concerts. They used to sell lots of cool stuff at their shows!

Compare this
to this
Spinal tap vs. classic rock....
I am not as much perterbed anymore by Styx not touring with Dennis - tour without him. Fine. Its the attempt at repositioning the brand and redefining the band's history that pisses me off.

Current Styx is into EVERYTHING but creating new music. Who cares if it sells, CREATE something new stay fresh!!Do it at home and sell it on line at styworld. Take a small financial hit but for the sake of whatever get some new music out there.
They(The Styx Business) are soooo frickin busy with their coffee, jewelery, T's lunch meat, trash cans etc.... they have forgotten what got em there besides Dennis.
A question that I honestly would like to know is: do they even have to practice anymore? They do the same thing and play the same songs nightly nothings new nothings fresh its just the same old thing.

Of course artsy creative people always create. Doesn't mean that everything created gets put out for public consumption. Do you believe Ansel Adams published every single photograph he ever took? Has Stephen King published every single word he ever wrote? Has DDY put out every song he has written? Of course not. From all I have heard and read in interviews, Tommy writes pretty much all the time. He just posted on Fb that he was working on a new song. Remember Sterling's book? It quoted a friend of Tommy's who said that he has crates and crates filled with cassettes of songs. The artist ultimately decides what gets put out for the masses. The members of Styx are very aware that there are people out there who want new music--but they all have said that 1) it's hard to find the time, and 2) sales for CDs are down. The music market is entirely different now. I'm not excusing them, just repeating what they've said. So, ultimately, yes, artsy people continually create. It's just up to them if it gets put out there.

Those are just excuses for not just coming out and saying they do not have an interest in releasing new music anymore. Lots of classic rock acts are releasing new material, some on the their own through their websites and itunes and some through labels that support classic acts. Just looking at the news section on the main page of this site confirms this. Styx just doesn't not have the balls to say it, I guess because they may feel it would impact their fan base in some way.

If they must to cover their costs jack ticket prices up 2-5% and include a 'free'CD of their new music when their fans enter a concert. Doing 100+ shows per year at more or less 5,000 fans per show is alot of people hearing new Styx music. Record it at home burn the discs and 'give' them away. It blows me away that they or their team put all this worthless crap out on the market and they wont put out what got em there. Ive passed up at least 5 shows in the past 3-5 years because of this.

They don't do it because they do not have to. The business is already built and still profitable enough. They no longer have to put out new music to get people to come to the shows. It's the path of least resistance. It's much more work to put out an album not to mention the costs involved.

Oh who needs new music when you have Rockin' T-shirts, Styx coffee and jewelry.

The gravy train ain't going to last forever. By themselves, they can only bring in an average of 2,000 per night according to PollStar. With 3 bands, they average 5,500. These numbers will not be ultra profitable for a promoter. They are close to wearout levels. How many times can these fans see Styx?
