Interesting take on a couple of different fronts....

1. I'm glad to see the Wooden Nickel tunes get some good press...
There is some really good music from that era that is too quickly
dismissed by most.

2. In his pan of Disc 2, he rips on 2 of TS's tunes in addition to the usual DDY selections. A lot of people forget not everything Tommy wrote was kick ass R&R.

3. I'm not sure any of the 4 songs he cited as being left off are
that much more deserving of inclusion here than what was included.

The wussies of the world are going to yell at us but included here are the songs that eventually ripped the band into shreds,

Wow!!!! What an attitude being displayed here...Anybody who likes these sappy(?) songs are considered wussies of the world, huh... Also, it wasn't the songs that ripped the band into shreds, it was the clashing jealous egos that couldn't put their personal differences aside for the sake of their fans that ripped the band into shreds...And to even consider Styx as a show tune band to me is an out and out JOKE and shows me that whoever wrote this article doesn't buy all of the albums to know what he is talking about!!!!!

The bottom line is that this collection is the best representation of the band and will provide Styx fans with hours of both entertainment and debate amongst themselves of which era was the true Styx.

Two points...

1( Whoever wrote this article says that This collection is the best representation of the band but complains about the sappy ballads and that there are certain songs missing and there will be some skipping around on disk 2..That's like going to a steak house;

WAITER:" How's your steak, sir???"

CUSTOMER: "Great Steak, even though it's burnt on the outside, Raw on the inside, and it tastes like chicken, But it's a great steak." :shock: ...Yea, that sounds credible....

2( Which Era is the true Styx????In my opinion being a fan for the past 27 years I can honestly say both...To me Styx has combined different song styles with good harmonies and classic story book song writing(ballads included)...

The Styx legacy pretty much reminds me of the Eagles legacy, providing diversity in their music to their fans with rock edge songs( Hotel California, Already Gone, Heartache Tonight, and The Long Run), ballads( I Can't Tell You Why, Desperado, Best Of My Love, and Love Will Keep Us Alive), and pop ballad/borderline country( Lyin' Eyes, Take It Easy, and Peaceful Easy Feeling) and being successful in providing a balance with the different song styles...

As for the anthology, I agree with Black Wall that there should have been a third disk to include some important tracks that are apparently missing,
but it's not a bad collection...

Just my nickels worth....DeeJay....
