Well I thought I was the guy to disparage in this thread but Froy managed to deflect some of the anger. In any any case Zan I did some research on the AIDS thing found many articles and learned that I do not really no shit about the whole subject but I will post two articles that where while interesting certainly not definitive regarding who contracts the disease and how much money is spent on it........
Department of Epidemiology, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, Massachusetts 02115.

One of the critical policy questions raised by the AIDS epidemic is the proper size of the United States federal government's commitment to AIDS-related research. The extent of the federal government's investment in AIDS-related research in relation to research investments in cancer, coronary heart disease, and unintentional injuries is examined. Appropriation levels for fiscal year 1986 are divided by indexes of projected disease burden for 1991 to create a research investment ratio for each health impairment. Indexes of disease burden include numbers of total deaths, early deaths, expected life years lost, and discounted life years lost and direct economic costs. Despite the uncertainty about the future of the AIDS epidemic, there is no indication that AIDS is being overfunded relative to cancer and heart disease. Injuries appear to receive relatively low funding priority. Confident conclusions about research priority depend upon resolution of qualitative considerations and better understanding of the dynamics of the AIDS epidemic.

Another interesting piece...............

The reasons why billions of dollars are spent on AIDS research are twofold: 1) Efficient AIDS lobby groups produced the necessary public pressure to generate more money for AIDS research. 2) Researchers, not really acting altruistically, undertook AIDS projects predicated, in the absence of any scientific basis for it, on a dramatic increase in the incidence of (heterosexual) AIDS cases; and argued that these cases would legitimize the money spent. AIDS is still a predominantly male disease in all so-called First World countries, restricted to virtually the same limited risk-groups as ever.[41] Nevertheless, the amount of money and public resources spent in the last ten years for the fight against AIDS is unique. No other disease in history, killing relatively few people, has generated such a large amount of research money, so much public attention and incidentally so many new professional journals in all sciences, as AIDS has done.[42]

But what I have really learned is I do not know shit about AIDS and had no place insulting not only Chuck but I also insulted Zan in that I gave no consideration to her obviouse involvement with the cause of helping people with AIDS and was also was ignorant to the intent and purpose of her post. No excuses I am sorry Zan I was WRONG and have no defense and I thank you for setting me straight. I hope this is read with the sincerity I have written it and at this point do not expect to be forgiven as I cannot keep being an asshole and expect redemption. There are consequences for words and actions and I DESERVE all the disdane that I have coveted.

Truly Sorry

Yes. If more people bothered to research information and learn about topics like you just did, this world might not be in the shit that it's in, so thank you. Never stop learning! It makes more of a difference than you might think.

Today is Chuck's actual birthday. I hope it's a good one.

And I agree with Jane - I miss Johnny too. What a cool guy.

Cool. It's okay. I am not an expert on the subject either. I guess I just have more of an interest in it because I've known so many people that have suffered with it. Also, just to be clear, it is my fiancee that is doing active research on AIDS treatment, not I. And you'll be happy(?) to know that he also works on treatments for cancer, ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease), MS, and other various diseases. I'm a singer - I try not to get involved in all that intellectual stuff. LOL

I'm happy that you took the time to read up on it, and took our little exchange as an opportunity to learn as opposed to just closing your ears and singing "lalala" like a lot of people would do. Kudos to you.

If you think your going to get to discontinue my subscription to the "Limbaugh letter" your going to have to provide me with compelling evidence regarding the liberal perspective. - What web sites or article do you recomend I am always willing to learn.

OSL, I won't go too in-depth re: politics on this thread.....look for a PM on that soon. ( I HEARD that sigh of relief out there !!!! )

By all means, continue to get your propeganda , er uh I mean Limbaugh letter, just remember you are reading the publication of someone who makes his living as an entertainer....just like Michael Moore. IMHO neither one of them should be taken too seriously.

More off line.
