Oh trust me, not everyone is giving LaPointe a pass. Only the majority of the Quebecers like him. I can name you a quite few folks who don't.

Oh and for those of you in Canada that care, Aug 28th is the DVD release of Caught In the Act.. (not sure if it's being released that date in the US or if it's been released there allready).

I have a funny feeling by time Styx plays Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon.. and Dennis plays Brampton and Kitchener, they will both have a Gold DVD award given to them.. (In Canada that is).. (Oh and DDY's new CD will probably be Gold in Quebec by then too.. unless all the Francophones turn their back on him for releasing an ENGLISH only single for single #2 :P

Who knows, with Styx playing in Montreal and their upcoming Western Canadian swing, it could push the CYO close to gold too.. (It's sold quite well up here)..

One will have to see..

I have not seen any release dates on this here in the U.S., Jodes. It is not listed on Amazon.ca or Amazon.com either. Where did you get your info? That date is next week!

Listened to Come Sail Away.

I'd agree that, compared to the original version, it sounds terrible.

But considering DDY's age, he doesn't sound bad. Just can't expect many singers that sing in the higher registers to be able to hit those notes when they're over 50. Or 60.

There are a few exceptions....Sammy Hagar is one for the most part. Voice tone has changed, but he can still hit the majority of note he's always been able to. Tommy Shaw's voice is holding up pretty well. Rob Halford still has his scream.
Joe Elliot's voice is gone. So is Robert Plant's and Roger Daltrey's....but you still know their voices, even without the high register.

You can still tell it's DDY singing, and even singing the songs 2 octaves lower than the original, he still sounds better than Lawrence Gowan does, ever.

+1. It's not on any Canadian site even for preorder and I scoured a few. There is the rumor it may finally see the light of day, but if you have more info, do share.

I was at Futureshop here in Edmonton last Tuesday, and while looking on their new releases "Boards" throughout the store, New for Music DVD August 28 it said "Styx - Caught In the Act"

There was nothing on their website, but usually they won't put something on their site until it's officially released.

I will get back to you soon..

According to the fellow I spoke with this morning, Caught In The Act will NOT be released tomorrow, but there is a release date listed! He looked for it and found out that October 23rd, 2007 is when the DVD will be released for $17.99 CDN.
