It always amazes me that JY appears to be honest with his answers in these interviews. From his point of view this is what happened and this is how he felt about the whole thing.

It basically breaks down to how you like your interviews. Do you like questions answered honestly from how someone feels or do you like them where questions are avoided and nothing is really said.

JY speaks how he feels; some of us like that type of interview, others take it as Dennis bashing. Maybe it is really how he feels. And some just don't want to know there is more than one side to an issue.

I have no problem with there being more than one side to an issue. Nor do I have any problem with JY expressing how he feels. I do however have a problem with someone, anyone, being so repetitive in interviews. It may be how he sees things, it is certainly his opinion, but it is also not good business. If you continue to spout the same rhetoric, people grow tired of it.

Dennis was not the sum total of Styx by a long shot, but he was a large part what got them noticed in the first place. It just seems bad form to keep repeating one's self. If the current situation is so much better, there is no reason to keep lamenting something that you say has been resolved or eradicated. In this case, Dennis. I think JY probably could very easily get his message across were he not so open to using a baiting type of interview to air old laundry.

And before you think I don't hold Dennis responsible for any of this, I'll say it again. He has a great deal of responsibility for this whole debacle.

In the final analysis, we as fans, will probably never know the "truth". And I think that's a good thing. Somehow, I think many of us would not enjoy discovering that it was/is indeed a Grand Illusion.

Here's to a year where we all get new music (be it covers, PBS specials, fair dates, half empty halls, sold out arenas, whatever) from a band (in any carnation) or it's members (past and present) to be enjoyed.

Seriously, I think there are as many different "truths" as there are personalities in the band. and plenty of blame / fault to go around as well. A band is a lot like a marriage, I think. Some live happily ever after, some end in divorce, some divorces are quite bitter, and most of the bitterness in many cases is all related to money issues.

Metaphorically speaking, Dennis wouldnt put out, so JY and Tommy found themselves a Mistress, and got busy....then Dennis filed for "Divorce" and they all lived bitterly ever after.....

Did you ever think of Gowan as a mistress before this post ???

Wow, you summed up just how I feel too. He (JY) is SO beyond repetitive in his interviews!! I can dig up a few and it's the same old song.

It's amazing that this interview resurfaces from about 8 months ago, is discussed on this board for what must be the third time, and each time everyone responds to it as if it is a new interview.

I wanted to hear Journey because, IMO, Kilroy seemed like some kinda half-finished attempt at doing "The Wall" or "Tommy" and should have never been released by Styx.

If "nobody" can work with them, there would be no product to buy. If nobody was buying it, there would be no label willing to release their product, or venues willing to allow them to play. That is just a simple fact of life...one that you can't accept.

Froy's posts are often incoherent (see his last one).

And for the record, I think it's completely possible for JY to admire DeYoung's talent while resenting him enough to choose to not go on working with him.


I believe Steve Perry was a talented artist. That doesn't mean I'd wanna put up with his ego.

People are more complex than simple answers might make it seem.

Don't you have any relationships with people who are impossible to take? I usually choose to keep my distance. But that doesn't mean I'm unable to respect their work.
