I was curious. :?:

Saw a thing on the DDY site about him teaming up with Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins to perform We Three Kings.

What's up with that?

I' m trying to fathom how those two styles would sound together.

Anybody hear it?

Here's the pic:

It was quite nice. It aired on the local WGN in Chicago. The song also aired nationally on the WGN Superstation.

Billy and Dennis sang. They were accompanied by Dennis on piano and a string trio.

It was a lovely version of "We Three Kings."

Yes I saw it, have it on tape. It was Billy's idea. There is a woman named Emilie Autumn who arranged the string ensemble (really great stuff). Dennis sounded great, however he had to tone down his voice so as to not drown out Billy, who's singing style is admittedly different.

A very nice gesture from two Chicago hometown guys.

I understand they had very little rehearsal time.

The video was available to see on Emilie Autumn's website, though I don't know if it's still there.

The only somewhat common thread I can come up with is that Smashing Pumpkins music had a pretty high degree of diversity, much like Styx. (although I doubt that would be the reason for the pairing). Could Corgan possibly be a Styx fan? Does Dennis know Ric Ocasek from the Cars, by chance? Corgan and Ocasek worked together a lot during the Pumpkins heyday. I'm pretty well stumped and waiting for someone more knowledgeable than me to speak up.

I'm getting quite the chuckle here. "Admittedly different" is an understatement, to say the least.
