Dennis in Green Bay

Postby sadie65 » Mon Feb 21, 2005 5:05 am

Well I had a great time last night. Besides hearing Castle Walls, Suite Madame Blue, and Pieces of Eight, I got to hear the sound check...and new material from Dennis. I think his new cd will be well liked by most of you.

I think Dennis has found his niche and is very comfortable in the role he now has. That being said, I am glad that both "sides" are doing what they love and I am very much looking forward to Chicago. I believe people will be pleasantly surprised.

Peace,

Dave, no he didn't play "I'm Okay". From what I'm hearing, this song may not be included in the Chicago show.

No he didn't do I'm Okay. I'm posting a review from the Green Bay paper about the show. Yes, just like every other review there are some facts wrong, but the line about the joy Dennis has doing this show is definitely accurate.

I didn't want to give a long winded description of the show here. We all know what we like and don't like about the shows. Hopefully those of you who are going to see him won't be disappointed. I know I'm not.

Not to start a flame war or anything. Okay, sure, let's start a flame war

Denny plays about 10-15 shows a year. He is playing to about 1000 people a night. He has to pay an orchestra.

STYX plays about 100-150 shows a year. They are playing to about 2000 people a night. They don't have to pay an orchestra.

hmmm.

As of today, I'm so tired going round and round about how many shows Carrot Styx is playing to how many shows Dennis is playing. I don't really care how many people are at each shows. I don't care how much the orchestra gets paid, how much money band players (Carrot Styx and Dennis' band) get paid, how much roadies get paid. It varies city to city and venue to venue the outcome of each "paycheck".

Dennis has moved on. He's happy what he's doing. I'm sure he misses being in the band Styx, but he's doing what he's wanting to do and how he wants to do it.

He's picking out which songs he's going to play at each show, he's playing the songs the way he wants to play them.

Dennis will be playing more than 15 shows this year. At least he's not touring on the bus going city to city, he's been there, done that. I've been inside the Styx tour bus (2003), I personally wouldn't want to "live" in there city to city, well I guess at the age that I'm at.

Carrot Styx will have a new cover cd coming out this year, good for them. They have another studio album in the works, good for them.

Dennis has 14 + songs written. Some are completed and he and his band have been performing/practicing them at the sound checks.

Good for everybody. Everybodies happy doing what they want to do.

By the way, yes, I'm lacking sleep today - LOL

I was reading a very old music oriented magazine this morning over breakfast.

A very famous entertainer (not a present or former member of Styx), who I will not name since what he says applies to almost ALL singers/performers, said this in the interview:

"You shouldn't do it for the applause, the money, or the ego satisfaction. Because it doesn't work. You've got to do it because you've got to do it. Because there is something inside you saying 'I just cannot NOT do this.'"

I feel this applies to Dennis, to the Current Styx, and to just about any performer who gets out there and works his/her/their rear off to perform.

The money is nice. Big crowds are nice (if you can get them). But at this stage of the game, it is the love OF the game that overrides anything.

Okay, now seriously, what did this add? Dennis played 40 public shows and who knows how many corporate gigs last year. he's doing more this year. He's added dates at least 4 times in the last month alone. Like Suite said, it doesn't matter how many shows either is doing. It's comparing apples to oranges. And it's an old tired argument. Find some new material Kansas.

Maybe SuiteMadameBlue is “tired going round and round about how many shows Carrot Styx is playing to how many shows Dennis is playing…” and doesn't “…care how many people are at each show.”

Maybe Sadie thinks “it doesn't matter how many shows either is doing” and “it's an old tired argument.”

I totally agree and I think many of us agree it's comparing apples to oranges. Ofcourse it IS good that each are doing so well, especially considering how many years after their peak it is.

But your team has the most vocal, disrespectful, antagonistic cheerleader, so the animosity will go on.

I suggest Kansas find some “new material” only when Froy gets off his ‘Dennis is a guilt-free victim of bad guys Tommy & JY, while Gowan, Phillips and Burtnik are talentless’ high horse.

You guys are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT in that ALL THAT MATTERS IS THE MUSIC and PERFORMANCE. However, no matter how balanced one or two of you are, there appear to be more DeYoungians who will never drop it. Around here the problem lies in Froy. I’d jump on Kansas666 right along with you if we weren’t constantly subjected to Froy’s accusational pronouncements.

Until he becomes more mature & respectful, Froy is DeYoung’s mouthpiece on this board. Hence, Kansas666 is the counterbalance.

Sad but true.

Okay, now we're teams??? Give me a break. You are smarter than this. There will always be an individual who makes comments that are out of line. I can think of several more on this list that have been very respectful. I would hardly make the claim that Froy, or anyone else for that matter is DeYoung's mouthpiece. How ludicrous. That he continues to get under your skin is your issue, not those of the rest of us who enjoy what Dennis does.

If you'll notice, he baits you because you LET him. Ever hear of ignoring it?
I think you can safely the majority of people on this board have moved on. You want to get your knickers in a twist because ONE hasn't...be my guest. Wow.

I'll be the first to admit I like to tease, but I don't feel I am on a "team" headed up by Mr. Froy or Mr. or Ms. ANYONE.

Sade hits it right on the head. So many just ignore what Froy has to say, which is always the best course of action for anyone who offends.

I will admit Froy is a lousy "cheerleader" for Dennis on this board, but a lot of what he does IS to rile people up and get a reaction. And boy do you ever react to him, Adam.

Don't categorize me and I won't categorize you. We are all different here and come from MANY backgrounds.

Kidding around can be fun and we ALL do it! I have no problem with that on either side. Fair is fair. And humor can be a lot of fun.

The personal attacks, directed at members of this message board, on all sides are always unwarranted and unnecessary.

Sadie, you're being logical. Good for you, I applaud you. (Except I thought your heed your own suggestion regarding letting Kansas get under your own skin.)

Btw, Froy isn't baiting ANYONE. And he brags about being on the insider, which only makes things worse.

I SHOULD ignore. But he'd probably RUN this board with his vitriol.

Sorry, it bugs me. He's intolerant. And I'm intolerant of intolerance.

Hats off to you though.

God, poor Dennis. LOL

You know, we have a guy on my regular Styx board who has been a royal pain in the ass for FIVE years. Every few weeks or so (not everyday like Froy, mind you), he would fly in, crap on everything, and fly out. Just recently, he actually decided that he was over it - something none of us ever thought would happen. I found this place virtually by accident, and I was FLOORED that the same tired Styx issues were still being mulled over, not just by Froy, who does take the proverbial cake, but by a lot of people. WOW indeed.

FWIW, I think it's great that people here are still willing to put the guy in check. Allowing a bratty teenager to be disrespectful simply because "nothing's going to change the way he is" or "you shouldn't let it bother you" is pretty uninspiring. Believe it or not, a lot of newcomers join the internet every day and may or may not be reading a Styx message board for the first time. I'd prefer it if posts like Froy's regular banter were counteracted wherever possible for that reason alone!

I also really get a kick out of Adam's posts. LOL

Well I disagree. If I questioned or challenged every one of Kansas' posts, then I wouldn't be heeding my own advice.

Froy is most certainly baiting. He wants a response. One that you give him because you can't not take the challenge.

His bragging on being on the inside is his issue. Note, the rest of us don't take up for him when he does, as you are with Kansas.

I can accept not liking intolerance. What I can't accept is being labelled. What I don't understand is that given what you know, why let it it get to you. Since just about everybody here has their own opinion about what Froy posts, I think it's silly to think he would run the board. Don't answer him. Pretty simple.

Now, can we get on to something more fun to talk about?

Peace,

That is because this is one of the few boards where there are people on both "sides" of the Styx issue posting. And fairly evenly represented, too. Whether tolerance comes into play -- depends on who is posting.

I wouldn't know about a team Dennis on Yahoo, and what does that have to do with this? As for my calling Adam on his intelligence, it's because I actually respect what he has to say...as a rule. When he lumps people together simply because he doesn't like what one says, then I question him.

I would hardly make the claim that Froy, or anyone else for that matter is DeYoung's mouthpiece.

Absolutely..which is why we don't agree with the label.

I know the person you refer to, and yeah, he was a pill. And I too was astounded when he finally stopped. As to you being floored, well, that's life.

Okay, so a guy who's been making the same tired, pointless comments for five years is worth challenging? I think not. But that's me. I agree people that people do come on all the time...just like you did. However, challenging something you know will only get you a sore forehead from banging it on the wall in frustration...seems pretty counter productive to me.

Well, since there were several DDY fans who felt it necessary to label themselves as a team, I thought it was humorous that others get offended by the grouping. I guess you didn't get a personal invitation to the club. Neither did I. ;-)

I believe in choosing your battles. I also believe that constantly going after one immature repeat offender with vigilance is counter-productive. Calling Tommy a burnt-out loser or JY a "bargain at best" is no big deal - that's one of those deals where you let a person's IQ (or punctuation skills) speak for itself. For me, it's the victimization that I hate to see go unchecked.

And yeah - can you believe that other guy shut up? LOL!

Did anyone ever see his letter to Glen where he picked apart KYAG prosecuting attorney style and made Glen dissect every line to prove it wasn't about Dennis? Classic!

Actually yesterday I was very tired from a long weekend and I was very crabby when I posted (nothing new-LOL) But yes, I am tired of going round and round with the same posts, it's getting no where. I understand there are newbies that come on the board weekly, so I guess it's never going to end.

Teams (LOL)???? So we have a Dennis team, a Carrot Styx team and a "fence sitting" team. I had no clue that we were on "teams" now. I wasn't invited to be on any team either :(

Styx makes that in 125 shows, per person that is.

All I know is I just read the Balco files, and Froy is on ROIDS. Froy has been cheating all along. Froy's steroid usage goes back to right before Brave New World was released. All 1000 plus posts of his are tainted and should be erased.Froy should become a newbie again, once Commissioner Monker reinstates him!!!!

For the record, it's silly to compare how much money people make. (Britney Spears makes more than everyone who reads this PLUS all the guys from Styx put together. And so what?)
