I am NOT a musiccian. I cant even spell it. I cant read music. BUT I love music!!

I have read soooooo many times what GREAT guitarists Neil Schon, Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young, and Rik Emmett are. I know there are others, but those four come to mind. I also remember reading one time somewhere where Glen Burtnik stated he couldnt hold a candle to JY's and Tommys playing.

My question is how good of guitar players are JY, Tommy, Glen , and now Ricky. Can they even hang with the above mentioned, or are Neil, Eddie, Angus, and Rik way way above them?? I honestly dont know the answer. They all sound great to me, and I couldnt tell one of their riffs from another.

JY is a guitar god, everyone knows that. Tommy has a catchy style and is quite talented in his own right. I would love to see them break out of their note-for-note regiment and show us what they can really do sometime. Now, Glen is FOS. He is a self-proclaimed "jack of all trades, and master of none." I disagree. He's a masterful musician that can play the sh** out of anything he puts his mind to. There's a reason why everyone in the industry knows his name.

Now, if we're talking about masters of their domain , I'd say Todd is right up there with some of the best drummers ever. Same with Gowan and keyboardists. The man can play the most complicated piece and make it look like chopsticks.

But um...Rik Emmet is freaking sensational. I was literally in awe bth times I've seen him play. Eddie VanHalen, however, does nothing for me. I'll give him his props, but I've never been overly impressed with him.

And herein come personal points of view.

I have ALWAYS felt that Clapton was way overrated.

A lot of who we think are the best depends on their style and whether we like it or not.

I think JY is a really great guitarist. (See, I can say something nice about the guy!)

I love the style of Pete Townshend, but he is nowhere near one of the best. But I would rank him high because I love his "rhythm/lead" style of playing.

I have always been astounded by the speed and precision of Eddie Van Halen.

What makes Clapton better than Shaw, JY,Eddie, or Angus Young. I swear just listening to the music I dont know. Was Ben Orr( Cars), a good guitarist?? Sting, the dude from Cheap Trick. What makes one better than the other?? Its easy with singers, guitars for me thats hard.

With all due respect to Chuck, He isn't top 5. Chuck is a solid, steady Bass player, perfect role for what Styx needs.

Entwistle was great, and Chris Squire is still amazing. I would place both of them ahead of Chuck.

JY is not even in the top 50 IMO

I think any guitarist who can play next to Ted Nugent and hold his own is absolutely a great guitarist. He is not up there with the greatest ever, I don't think he's someone to ignore either....I mean, "Crystal Ball", "Come Again", all the stuff on 7DZ. Very impressive.

As for the greatest ever...I think that's Stevie Ray Vaughn. He could do absolutely anything with a guitar...from classic blues to Hendrix, electric, accoustic, slow ballads to ripping through a rocker. A master.

Darren, that's okay, I'm glad we all have such a variety of tastes. I added him to the list of vocalists yesterday because I was just listening to him with Wings. If I was asked next week, it would probably still be Dennis, Steve, Rob and then someone else, like the guy from Dream Theater or Rik. With Paul McCartney, I usually just listen to the radio hits nothing else (I'm bad).

Mull Of Kintyre is a great song Darren whats the problem with it for you
