Autographs

I know we had this discussion last year, but there are many "newbies" on this board.

What is your opinion about having an album/cd signed by a band member that wasn't part of that album?

Yes, this has to do with Styx!!! Should Larry be signing any old Styx albums even though he wasn't part of them? Same for Tommy with the Wooden Nickel and Todd with anything before "Return To Paradise" and with Glen and Ricky too for cd's that they weren't part of. Oh and also for the nimwits that gives Dennis the Carrot Styx cd!!

I know most of them aren't going to say no or turn down signing an autograph, which is a nice. I just want your opinions - be nice!! LOL

I'm just wondering about cds/albums, nothing else. I've had a few weird things signed, like my Packer cheesehead that has nothing to do with music and a few wrappers since I couldn't find anything else at the time years ago.

Yogi, I think you were talking about having a baseball card signed by someone else.

Talk among yourselves, I have to go to work - LOL :?

My thought is that although it's a bit tasteless, it IS an autograph, and one that A FAN ASKED TO HAVE. You really can't blame Gowan (or whoever) for choosing to sign an album he's not on, simply because he's in a no-win situation. If he refuses, he'll be considered an a$$hole, and if he signs it Froy will use this as evidence of what a rip off he is.

So, if a fan asks for an autograph, it is the fan's taste that comes into question, and the celebrity's choice to appease or not.

It seems questionable to me though.

Adam makes about as good a point on this as anyone could. (And I can't believe I just wrote that!)

To me, it is the lunkheaded, dimwitted "fan's" fault for bringing something to sign that a performer was no part of in the first place.

But someone like Gowan, asked to sign, say The Grand Illusion, is likely trying to be nice and be the gentleman, and so, probably through gritted teeth, he will sign it.

If I were one of them, I might question, in as gentle a way as possible, why they brought that particular item to sign.

I agree with Adam and Bugsy. While I can appreciate being caught up in the moment, I think the fan is the one who should do the research. I know that some of the band members have expressed surprise when being handed something they weren't a part of. It's a sticky situation for them.

I agree. If they're there to sign an autograph, my opinion is that they should sign whatever the fan asks them to. Maybe the Grand Illusion is the ONLY Styx album they have. In which case, they should be taken out back and beaten.

Myself, I only have one Styx LP signed, and that's Kilroy Was Here. It has all five original signatures on it and no one else's. IMO, no one else should sign it. I have Glen's signature on a tee shirt, flag, & photo. I would intentionally not bring a glory line-up CD or album for Gowan or Todd to sign. But then, I'm not the "average fan" either.

believe me, i know my Styx

If Gowan is asked to sign The Grand Illusion ,he could say that he is not on the record but he would be happy to sign it.

In 2000 I saw Styx and Reo together. Before the show I bought a poter of the too groups together. During the show the band came up and signed the poster (all except JY who looked at it and shook his head and gave me a weird look). Chuck came out and after playing a song, I raised up the poster and he came over, looked at it for a couple of seconds, then signed. I looked at it for a minute, then I realized, he wasn't it the group Styx and REO picture. But he was nice and signed anyway. Didn't come off like JY did-ERIC
