I was debating whether to post this or not on here, but then I was thinking about Froy and I wanted to keep him updated on Larry (Froy-I'm only having fun with you)

I heard that Larry is having his surgery today. (I'm sure he won't be jumping off the rotating keyboards anytime soon-seriously). I guess he's going to be okay for next weeks concert. I'd think he'd want to recover a little longer, but the show must go on and on and on and on.....................

I was looking back at the Styx concert that I had taped and to see/hear Larry singing "Lady" was just, just, just, terrible (no offense to those that enjoy him). I don't have anything against him as a person, but please, don't sing any of Dennis' songs.

It was clear to them that he was out for himself (the band slowly changed from a profit-sharing democracy to a cash-cow dictatorship). The start and stops were driving the others crazy and THERE MUST BE A REASON WHY THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE THE "ALLERGIC TO BRIGHT LIGHTS" problem.

Could it be they knew this guy too well? Could it be there was no scientific explanation for the illness? Could it be he'd been a hypocondriac in the past?

The differences you point out are 100 percent valid........I think Froy's main argument, though I ( usually ) may not agree with how he states it, is that without Dennis, it just isn't Styx, or at least the Styx he knows and loves.....

I agree with him to a point, it's the same as having:

Led Zeppelin without Page or Plant
The Eagles without Henley or Frey
Crosby Stills and Nash without Crosby, Stills or Nash
and so on.

In light of all of the often stated reasons why a Styx reunion is unlikely to impossible, I prefer having new Styx Music with the re-vamped lineup to no new Styx music at all.......It's not the Styx that I love the best, and I am fence sitting in the argument of weather it should be called Styx at all......However, I believe TS, JY, and the rest still have
something to offer that's worth listening to, as DDY also does on his own.

As long as a judge says it's ok for them to use that name, and as long as there are people still willing to come out and watch them play, they ARE Styx. HOWEVER, the topic on the table is/was Gowan's knee surgery (not the history of Styx's career), for which Froy was trying to draw parallels between the band's treatment of Larry's injury vs. Dennis' illness. It was a weak attempt at best, which was what Adam felt compelled to point out. Why he bothers, I have no idea, but it is funny. LOL

Bands change members for one reason or another all the time. If everytime a band changes a member, should they be required to change their name?

I honestly don't think so, as long as there is a core number of members that is associated with the original line up or the line up that gave them notoriety.

I believe Dennis has Epstien Barr Syndrome and that it was difficult to diagnose. I also believe that Tommy and JY didn't necessarily understand the illness. I'm with Adam on most of what he said. JY and Tommy wanted to play and play alot; Dennis' history says he likes to tour sometimes. But I really believe when it came right to it that Tommy and Dennis wanted to step away from the ballads and bring a more progressive/rock edge to the band and Dennis didn't want that.

Sometimes as we grow, our ideas change and we follow different directions than what we first thought we would. This appears to be true with Dennis, Tommy and JY.

Well, I guess most people here would fit #3 above. Some here would fit #2. The most extreme may fit #1.

Froy fits #4...his responses come with a machine like precision and almost robotic response. Most of the time his error light is flashing and he makes people want to hurtem his scrotum.

You know, this is sad. A post was started to mention Larry's knee surgery. While I don't care for the man's singing, I don't wish him ill. And yet, we've all taken a thread that should have nothing to do with the split, and allowed it, yet again, to become about a decision that was made well over 6 years ago.

Each side is now doing what they do, and I believe, is happy doing it. It no longer matters who was right, who was wrong, whether someone worked as a team player, whether someone writes ballads or rockers, white hair, no hair, scraggly hair, reluctant legend....it's beyond it now.

We weren't involved. For all of us saying we think Dennis was this way, or Tommy was that way, we weren't there. So as fans, let's enjoy what they brought us, what they continue to bring us, and wish Larry a quick recovery.

How many members of Yes have there been over the years? About 20? It seems that way. There are probably AT LEAST that many lineups.

Cetera quit Chicago, Terry Kath died. Members changed.

Asia...As with Yes, numerous changes...The only person left who was there in 1981 is Geoffrey Downes.

I love your answer to LRB...They basicaly exclude the THREE founding member from the band, forcing them into another name, and that is OK with you. How logical. According to that answer, you should be OK with Styx since Dennis can still record and tour, he just can't do it under the Styx name.

The situation with LRB is like Perry, Rolie and Neal reuniting and not being able to call it Journey...Or, DDY, JY and Chuch reuniting and not being able to call it Styx.

And, of course there is Journey, who also has a door that revolves almost as much as Yes.

It happens: People quit. People are fired. Fans accept it or not...Only a few are so fanatic that they can't let it go. Most people move on with life.

Taking somebody to federal court is NOt a petty thing.

Dennis settled out of court...he did NOT 'drop the case'.
