I stand by my stated opinion that a covers album is a bad move. My harshest criticism was about the concept. I believe such albums really do have to be something very special to actually enhance an artist's career and I'm not sure this will be the case here. I said the same thing a couple of years back about a Toto covers album. Sure enough, I got a bit of stick from the guys in the band when I posted an unfavorable review of their album, but they are classy guys and to this day I remain on great terms with them.

Little bit o' false advertising here. The commentary is about Def Leppard.
Although, I agree w/ it and you. Cover albums are usually kinda weak. And Styx AND Shaw/Blades doing cover albums in the same year is definitely overkill.
Still, there will likely be a couple of gems. I'm looking forward to Locomotive Breath and I Can See for Miles.

Well, when you get used to selling 3,000,000 albums per release, selling 50,000 gives you two options: readjust your budget or release 60 albums a year.
After Live albums, Greatest Hits packages, Full Dolby rereleases, an Occasional new release, solo records, EP's Remastered Albums, Photo albums and Family albums that leaves Cover albums.
I do like the Walrus song though, even went so far as to get an Ipod Shuffle and open an Itunes account to get it.
If you like covers, sounds like 2005 is going to be a banner year.
