I'll try not to bore you too much. His concert last night was very well received. Best Thing was great. Queen of Spades and Borrowed Time were wonderful additions to the set list. Unfinished Song was very poignant in that Chuck Lofrano was there and got to hear the song he wrote performed live. There were some standards of course, but as I looked around from my roughly 4th row from stage, all you could see throughout the entire show was a crowd very much into it. The crowd sang every song. Dennis did more keyboard work than I've seen in a very long time. If you get the chance to see this show, I think you would enjoy it.

It was nice to see several that post here at the concert.

On Best Thing, Did Dennis sing lead on the entire song ? or did another Band member sing the parts JY sang on the original ?

On Queen of Spades, did Dennis or another Keyboard Player try to fill in the 2nd guitar part......( during the guitar solo ) did it work/sound good ?

Did Suite make her presence known during unfinuished song ?

Dennis sang lead Hank did JY's part it was stunning

If anyone was wondering, Froy and I were the loud ones pounding the stage. We were helping Kyle out with the rythym section, but darned if Dennis didn't nearly step our our hands few times. He sure was here, there and everywhere all over the stage.

Sadie and Froy summed it up quite well. This was an all out, old school concert of Styx music by the guy who sang and wrote it.

I thought his band did an admirable job of backing him up, but the audience sang every single word of every single song, so he had hundreds additional of backup singers as well.

Standouts to me were Best Thing, which just blew everyone totally away. It was so great to hear Queen of Spades and Borrowed Time.

I so enjoyed seeing Dennis running around like a twenty-year-old and particularly seeing him really play the keys as an integral part of the songs, just like the old days.

It goes without saying his voice was terrific and he was very energized by his hometown crowd (even if everyone there was NOT from his hometown).

It was a great, shared concert experience for me.

I certainly hope he does this one in more cities so that more people can experience this concert.

As a side observation -- that is one skinny white boy, I must say. If he loses much more weight, he is going to disappear. And I wouldn't mind if he would permanently ditch the jacket he wore onstage. But that is just me.

You are such a contradiction. You start the above with 'screw Styx' and end it hoping they'll ask Dennis back. Perhaps you realize that Dennis needs Styx a lot more then Styx needs Dennis.

It's nice that Dennis performs such songs for his fans, but I doubt a significant number of people are going to react the same way as you, and I doubt it will change the big picture of how things are.

What a GREAT show!! I've seen about 10 Dennis solo shows at various venues & crowds and this has to be the best show.

Classic, Yes I LOVED hearing "Unfinished Song"!! Once he mentioned that he was going to play it, my friends all looked at me - LOL I guess I mentioned it a little too much on all the boards (and the drive down) - LOL Anyway, I looked around too when he was playing it and I was amazed at all the people that were singing along. It was very touching to see Chuck L. up in the balcony listening to the song for the first time live too. I'm so glad Dennis sang this in Chicago.

I always thought "Best Thing" was an okay song when I heard it on the album/cd. But hearing it LIVE, great, great song!!!!!! I loved hearing "Queen of Spades", but it was missing that 2nd guitar, still great to hear. I liked his version of "Borrowed Time"!! I hope he adds this to the summer setlist.

When a venue books Styx, they know what they are getting...and they can consistantly get venues - whether you like the band or not.

Here is a first. I agree with.......(drum roll) ........ MONKER!

Dennis is not so much playing "catch up" as he is having to totally re-establish a persona of his own. Can he do this? Only time will tell. This was a totally kick-ass concert in every way, but who will know in order to go?

He does not have the Styx name or the promotion machine of the current touring act calling themselves Styx. He can do NOTHING about this other than try to do his thing.

Yes, they have the record deal and they get some of the name venues when they play with other name acts. And they are touring endlessly. I was astonished at the list of concert dates they have! And that is just great for them. I don't know how they keep up the pace at their advanced ages (LOL!), but they do. And the fans who see them really love the shows, bad Gowan singing and all.

My hope is that Dennis will take his "sweaty little band" to some small venues and perform this totally amazing walk down memory lane.

He is SO professional and SUCH a great performer, that he captivates an audience right from the get-go. Maybe this will work for him, but he will have to work twice as hard to get he venues and ticket sales.

This is simply, as he always says, the truth of the matter.

If it is only a small number of fans who get to see this show, then so be it. Missing out on this one is their loss. Seeing it was our gain.

Saturday night was a STYX concert my Friend not Dennis solo.
There were more original members of Styx at that show than any other on the planet.
There were fans with Styx albums in the crowd there was 2 hours of Styx music
Only 1 Dennis solo tune
Tom and Jim missed out it was a historical event.

Maybe if his bass player is playing a backyard party or working overtime at Walmart I could fill in with the band.

I saw the orchestra thing and I thought it was one of the most boring concerts I had ever seen. Judging by the number of empty seats, I doubt he'll be back. Why would the Civic Center here want to book Dennis when they could sell twice as many seats for another act- including Styx?

So? I would think after six years of touring that people know that Dennis is not there. If they don't, it's their own inability to tell the difference between Gowan and Dennis.

I'm not trying to put him down. Everbody needs to make a living. I'm sure he is a fine bass player. You can't blame anyone in DDY's band for doing other things. How can you make a living do a few shows a year as a backup musician? There is no doubt that working for DDY is not a steady job. I'm sure it's nice to make some extra money doing a weekend gig from time to time.

Maybe Dennis can fill in for the singer in the bass player's wedding band. One hand washes the other!
