Big Bang Theory Prediction

Here is a list of Styx albums with their highest Billboard chart position. Does anyone have any predictions about Big Bang Theory? I say it will come in somewhere between 60 and 80 on the album charts partly because it is being released on a major label and the radio success of Walrus. I hope it ends up higher then that but I’m being realistic.

Styx 1 – 82

Styx 2 – 20

Serpent is rising – 192

Man of miracles – 154

Equinox – 27

Crystal ball – 66

Grand Illusion – 6

Pieces of eight – 6

Cornerstone – 2

Paradise theater – 1

Kilroy was here – 3

Caught in the act – 31

Edge of the century – 63

Return to paradise – 139

Brave new world – 175

Cyclorama – 127

Big bang theory - ????

Chi Styx,

Unless they have figured out a way to really rev up the publicity Machine,
it won't crack the top 100.....maybe 150.

I'd like to see it do better than that, but most people don't even know they are still around.

If it gets promotion I say around 80-70. No Promo around 125.-ERIC

They're working on promoting it right now. Tommy will be/is calling in to various radio markets right now.

That's interesting that Cyclorama charted higher than Brave New World and Return to Paradise, 2 albums with Denny at the helm. hmmmm

Whats funnier is that Return To Paradise went gold while Cyclorama didn't sell 100,000 copies.

Please get your facts straight. If you're going to start a record-sales flame based on DDY being in the band, you're going to lose by a big margin.

I predict this will not break the top 200.

If Tommy calling Radio stations is the extent of their promotion, I don't expect BBT to make a great impact on the Music scene....

That's all I know right now. I know there will probably be a few more interviews on-line and in newspapers before the shows. Also the article in the Classic Rock Magazine (England).

There is supposed to be a TV commercial that advertises Big Bang Theory. They were filming a few weeks ago.

Do you think it's going to be on VH1 or VHClassic? Or elsewhere?

I would be surprised if BBT cracked the top 100. But not that it will impact sales, but it is being released in kind of a dead period album wise. This will only impact its rank relative to a weak market. If this had been released during the Christmas season, it might not even chart at all. All that said, I will predict somewhere in the 125 range.

My feeling is that if every fan who wants this covers CD buys it as soon as it is released, it might get enough sales to push it into the top 100 ....maybe.

That is generally what gets an album on the charts in the first place is initial sales. After that is anyone's guess as to its staying power and its ability to generate sales after the first big response from the diehard fans.

I always like to check the sales rank on Amazon because, though it is not the only factor, it sort of acts like a barometer of what sales are doing for a particular CD (or book or whatever).

After every Current Styx show, there is always a bump in sales for Greatest Hits. And that CD has resided in Amazon's top 1000 sellers for a long, long time.

Apparently people are buying the Classic Styx recordings as well because they rank FAR ahead of Cyclorama.

From what I can tell, Cyclorama has flatlined in sales.

After every DDY show, there is always a little bump up for "The Music of Styx" double live as well.

I think the Styx commercial will run the same way the Joe Cocker commercial is currently running. Joe also has a new covers CD out now on the same label and I have seen the commercial on several stations in Chicago.
