BIG BANG BUGSY

I had the pleasure of meeting Bugsy Friday. Although it was brief it was a GREAT pleasure to meet another person who shares one of my passions.
She brought me a copy of 7 brief song bits from the upcomming Styx cover CD. I must say from what I heard it sounds VERY VERY good. We kid around alot about the 8 million renditions of Blue Collar Man, but this new version is really good. The versions of the songs I heard were only about 1 minute long, but it sounded GREAT. My wife who is NOT the biggest Styx fan also gave it a BIG thumbs up. I also thought Summer In The City sounded awesome. Cant Find My Way Home is really good too. Gowan sings I Dont Need No Doctor and it rocks. How anyone can EVER say this man cant sing is nuts. He just sounds NOTHING like Dennis, and his lead vocals sound nothing like Styx. But damn he can sing.
I could not figure out who was singing lead on I Can See For Miles. I REALLY dislike the Who so I know I will be skipping this song. The other observations I can make are this CD will be Tommy dominate and the harmonies are TIGHT.
Maybe this should of been a private message but I just thought I put it out there. Thanks Bugsy, It was a pleasure meeting you & stay in touch.
Finally, Bugsy told me how AWESOME the Lost Treasures concert was. She said Best Thing just TOTALLY blew her away. If you have Dennis's ear PLEASE PLEASE get him back to Houston or to San Antonio.

Yogi, it was a pleasure meeting you as well.
Yogi shared a few items with me that I refused to buy, LOL. Perhaps I will do a Bugsyview on Cyclocarrot and Welcome to Dear Glen later. Or not.
I truly do think fans of the Current Styx will enjoy the covers. I see no reason for them not to. I won't be buying it, but those of you who do, enjoy.
I know you will be one of those, Yogi.
Oh, and Coach, sorry about the drubbing the Wildcats put on your team, but there is always next time, as they say. You all sure had some terrific baseball weather, no question about that, and a great stadium in which to play. I hope you enjoyed your trip through small town Texas to small town Texas.

As I said for me the clips were not long enough to truly decide. I wasn't overly impressed, but I did think some clips were good. I too liked this version of BCM.
As for Gowan singing, well, I think he's a talented keyboard artist. I agree, he sounds nothing like Dennis. By the same token, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan sound nothing like Dennis either, and I don't think they can sing at all.
Just some fun on a Sunday afternoon.
Peace

I think Dennis himself stated it best in an interview that can be found at Styxcollector.com. In regards to Gowan replacing him Dennis said something like Rod Stewert is a great singer, but if he replaced Steven Tyler in Aerosmith would it still sound like Aerosmith and would it still be Aerosmith??
While Dennis surely made his point, he also pointed out that Gowan can sing!!!

My point exactly on the other thread (assembly line, Yogi) here.
It sounds nothing like "Styx" without Dennis. It is, to me, The Touring (and Recording) Band Using the Name Styx.
I guess that is too long to put on a marquee.

I know Steve Tyler, and believe me, Denny is NO Steven Tyler

I know it was just used as an analogy, but I still think this response is funny. LOL
Steven seems like a cool guy. I saw them back before their recovery days, and wish I could see them again with all their energy - and not have to fork out an arm and a leg. I bet they're sensational. maybe someday...

For THIS I am eternally grateful! Hey, I love Steven/Aerosmith very much, but I don't want to hear Dennis sing his stuff and, more importantly, I don't want to hear
him sing DDY's stuff!
(Although I betcha that Dennis could do a good job of singing a few Aerosmith songs. He is that versatile !

)

Thank goodness. Dennis would make a terrible Steven Tyler. Rolling eyes right back at you Dave

Nah, I get that at my own gigs all the time (we all hold up our middle fingers and say "here, no charge"). I wouldn't even do that to Dennis! Doesn't he have enough problems? lol

LOL, why is it when I go to the "classic rock" music concerts, people still yell this song? I think it would be funny if one of the bands would say "okay" and then start playing it.
Goodness, I hope that Dennis isn't like a Steven Tyler!! I'm glad they each have their own personalities.
Yogi, I'm glad that you met Bugsy, isn't she great?
Yes, the Treasures show was a great show and a great time. I wish I was going to NYC!!

Right now, I'm singing with a band called Carousel. It's not too bad, but not lighting my world on fire either. Our website is www.carouselband.net if you're REALLY bored. Nothing too exciting, just the basics. I'm currently looking to start another band that plays BETTER covers and a few originals with Sandi (the other vocalist). She is the BEST harmonizer I've ever heard. She hasn't submitted a bio or photo yet, which is why she appears to be dissed on the site. LOL
I bet an all-star band made up of posters here would be kind of fun!

I'll do the film work and interviewing, that's all I can do. I can't sing, I can't play an instrument, unless you count "the spoons" LOL

We actually did learn it. There's a guy who always tips us OUTRAGEOUS amounts of money who said he'd give us $1000 if we learned it - so um, hey, we're whores, what can we say.

Nice website, Carousel Band!
Hope you all can post some clips in the future?
My band/duet playing days are long behind me....WAAAAY back there, LOL. But I still play some decent lead and rhythm guitar and a mean 12-string when the mood strikes me.
We should have an All-Star Styx Melodic Rock ensemble. Or maybe it should just be called MR Mess.

Good call! Good name...
Thanks for the kudos about the website, wish I could take credit, but Thom, our bass player designed most of itte. I would love to see mp3s added to it as well, but then again, there are a lot of things I'd like to see with regard to that band. LOL
(Like more professional, less whiny musicians for starters) lol

Very cool Zan.....the set list looks like a lot of fun to play !
MR Mess needs a percussionist ! ( Unless we go with Suite on Spoons that is.....

)
Or we could go acapella ! lots of vocalists here.
