Styx is still classic Styx.
Styx has been out of the picture since 'Return to paradise',when it all fell apart.
Styx has landed a 1 cd deal,and has released 'Cyclorama'.Tommy and JY has written the whole album but 2 tracks.Due to writers block Dennis only wrote 2 songs 'More love for the money' and 'Home of the brave'
Would this be an aceptable album for the classic Styx fan out there???
Also, live they now got 2 cover songs on the setlist,'I am a walrus' and a song called 'Criminal mind ' by an unknown Canadian artist called Garry Lowan.
Would this be acceptable for the classic Styx fan out there???

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but they haven't played Criminal Mind for some time other than casino rama.

No it would not anything by Larry Gowan should be banned from the STYX name

Regardless of what others say,

If Cyclorama was a Classic Styx release, those that boycot that album would accept it with open arms.

If you bought BNW then you would buy this one too. Writers block or no Writers Block. If for no other reason it would have been the first music released since BNW.

Then I guess if you wouldn't buy it then you never buy any album until you hear it a dozen times after someone else buys it. Other than the original single release, most people buy it before they hear an album in its entirety.

Well obvious we can't go back in time and have anything changed. If Dennis is/was part of any album/cd of course I'd buy it. Even if everyone hated the album/cd/songs. I like Brave New World. When I'm working on the computer I'll listen to a cd sometimes 4 times in a row, the songs really grow on you.

You guys need to be nicer in your posts on here. I feel like I'm in high school.

MOST Styx music for me has taken getting used to before I fall in love with it. It's been that way since the first album I've ever owned. I just don't see the big deal.

It's been the same with me too, since the first album I ever owned too. It just takes a little time and I fall in love with the music. Then I try to figure out the words - LOL It took me years to figure out what the song "Light Up" was about, sheesh (of course someone had to tell me). Then I recently find out about "The Serpent is Rising" and what that could be about, sheesh, how old is that album.

I think gr8dane deserves an award for showing an amazing amount of generous patience on this topic. Hats off, buddy!

I prefer Cyclorama to Brave New World and would feel that way even if one could somehow interchange Dennis and Larry's respective vocals on the two albums. I simply like the music better and although I prefer Dennis' vocals, we're only talking about 2 tracks on Cyclorama that Larry sings on, after all.

And I'm not sure about this one, but I thought I read somewhere that Larry wrote the majority of One With Everything. If that's the case, that song blows away anything DDY has written since Pieces Of Eight (and I stress that is in my opinion, it's not meant as a slam to those who appreciate DDY's current songwriting).

The one who sang the song is the one who brought it to the band to be included on the cd. While they all had a hand in its creation musically, the overall presentation was brought by Tommy as were the lyrics.

The same can be said of all the songson Cyclorama. The lead singer brought the overall song to the band, and the others had a hand in developing the sound to the song and orchestrating their part on what is presented to the public.

Burtnik: I enjoyed the collaboration of writing "One With Everything". THAT is the one true 5 way collaboration on that album - and I think it came out great. Lawrence's keyboard riffs, Todd's arranging, Tommy's lyrics, my chorus, JY's bass lines mixed together with Lawrence's playing, Todd's performance, Tommy's melodies, my retarding the end idea, and JY's attention to production detail - there was a nice cooperative mission that worked on that one. That's perhaps the closest I've been to a Yes-like compositional environment.

As for the tour, I got my ya-yas out running through huge arenas while performing my "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye". How fitting, now that I think of it!

Like I and Glen said, Tommy wrote the lyrics.

Are we arguing?

I stand by my statement. When you wrote "One With Everything was written by Tommy" I say that is inaccurate. That's all. I am not trying to "get into" anything with you here, just stating a fact.

Unless you define the writing of a song to be Lyriucs only (in which case I'd think Richard Rogers, George Gershwin and Elton John might give you a big argument there)
