What if Cyclorama was released and instead of Fields of the Brave and More Love for the Money, they were replaced with "A Love Foretold" and "My God can Beat Up Your God". Would this have been a cd you couldn't do without?

No, although it would be an improvement it would basically be BNW Part II then.

If they're ever going to recapture the real magic of Styx they'd need Dennis DeYoung to produce the entire album and contribute more than 2 songs.

By the way, am I the only one who thinks MLFTM sounds like a bad Genesis song?

By the way, I've never heard "A Love Foretold"... I assume it's a ballad... is it any good?

Well, I can't imagine someone writing a rock song for a romance novel.

And make a conscious effort to stay away from the ballads! It's not that I terribly dislike them, but I terribly miss his older stuff. I'm not saying that I want a Grand Illusion or Pieces Of Eight carbon copy, but at least something more in that vein.

Nothing is worse than when a band not known exclusively for the ballad overdoes it. Styx, IMO, falls into this category. Def Leppard comes to mind as well (post-Hysteria). A couple of newer bands that I like are Hoobastank and Blink 182. Both have recently gotten airplay with slower songs (The Reason and I Miss You). I'd hate to see them get carried away, especially after how much their signature sound attracted me, without the slow songs. (Sound familiar, Styx fans?)

But in all fairness, an equal argument can be made by those who get tired of the same old, same old (although in my opinion, the DeYoung ballad is no longer a new direction, it has turned into old hat).

Okay, there's your little ek88 rant on how every band should operate. (You'll notice that no bands are actively seeking my musical advice -- 'nuff said).

The only problem is that Dennis hasn't written and produced an album with the 'real magic of Styx' since Paradise Theatre. DeYoung alone did not have some magic power. In fact, IMO, it has the exact opposite effect.

I'll be honest, I actually kind of like "More Love For The Money", but if "Cyclorama" would have had "My God Can Beat Up Your God", along with "Goodnight My Love", I would have enjoyed it even more. If the guys would have actually all had input, and balanced each other out(unlike "Brave New World")perhaps "My God" wouldn't have sounded quite as Broadway as it did.

One last thought,does anyone know if Dennis wrote all three of the new songs for his live album, including "Goodnight My Love"?

It says on the inside bottom right that all songs written by Dennis DeYoung except Lorelei written by Dennis and JY, and Rockin' The Paradise written by Dennis, JY, and Tommy Shaw....

I also like LG’s songs on Cyclorama. So I guess that would make 2 of us! There is a review of Big Bang on StyxCollector.com that is interesting. Especially the part about Larry’s songs being the best and most classic Styx sounding.

It is a GREAT song in my opinion. In fact it is better then any song that Styx or any member or former member of Styx has recorded since 1980. What would your example of a GREAT Styx song be that was recorded after 1980?

You're whacky. "Black Wall" is a better song than anything any member of Styx has produced solo or anything on Cyclorama.

I can also name about 4 Dennis songs on KWH that are much better than OWE.

I think almost all of the songs on 7DZ are 'great' songs. Even Dennis complimented "I Will Be Your witness" from BNW.
