Styx - Back in Time 9/4/1978

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sat Apr 30, 2005 10:26 am

I have a HUGE binder of copied Styx articles from the past. When I have the time I like to post an article or part of an article to go back in time with Styx.

This one is from the London Free Press dated September 4, 1978

Styx Show Popular

Toronto (CP) - A performance by the rock group Styx at the Canadian National Exhibition grandstand Friday drew an audience of 23,000, making it the most popular show so far this year, officials said.

Styx was formed in Chicago in 1970 by three of its five members, keyboard player Dennis DeYoung and twins, drummer John Panozzo and bassist Chuck Panozzo.

The band struggled for success for several years before achieving internation fame with the release of its fifth album, Equinox.

Both Styx and the opening group from Toronto, Zon, performed music combining a heavy beat with soaring atmospheric sounds.

Styx took it's name from the description in Dante's Inferno of the flaming river that separates purgatory from hell.

Same concert, this part is from The Toronto Sun.

Scalpers were selling tickets for up to $10.00 a pair outside the stadium.

Yes, back in the days when we thought $8.00 bucks was a lot. Of course I was only 13, no way my parents were letting me go to any concerts.
