For those of you who can not stand the current group Styx, These questions are for you.

If when Dennis was given the size 12 Tommy,JY, Todd, Glen, Lawerence & Chuck would of gone with a different name other then Styx would you now accept them???? Would you of gone to a show when they came close to ' your ' town??

What would you of REALLY thought of Cyclorama?, Walrus, and Big Bang. Remember they are NOT calling themselves Styx. If the above who is NOT calling themselves Styx still toured their asses off but dropped all DDY led songs would you be accepting them now????

Like Jeb, I too like Lawerence and think he is an EXCELLENT vocalist. I Dont Need No Doctor ( the little I heard) ROCKS!! Walrus sounds excellent as does More Love For The Money & Criminal Mind. So if he is NOT singing Dennis tunes, and is playing in a band with Tommy, JY, Todd, Chuck, Glen, Ricky and that band is not known as Styx what do you REALLY think of Gowan???

I don't agree with their calling themselves Styx, but I far from despise them. I have also stated several times that Gowans tracks are the ones I find myself listening to over and over again.

Strictly from a vocalist view, Gowan sounds good on Gowan songs. He sounds horrible on Dennis' material. Overall I think Dennis is a stronger singer with a more trademark type of voice.

I think if they changed their name we wouldn't be having this discussion. They'd be struggling to fill their concerts, simply because they'd be starting from ground zero again. They have the name, let them use it. I know several here voiced having no objections had they changed their name.

As for Cyclo...I've listened to it. Several songs are good. It probably wouldn't be bought by me under any name, because overall I HONESTLY don't care for the whole thing.

Would I go to a concert. I really don't know. I don't go to many concerts these days. Yes, I'm a soccer mom. My money goes towards other things.

Big Bang sounds fairly good from what 've heard, but again, I don't find myself out rushing to buy it...

A long time ago I said I felt they needed to change their name.

Would I be a fan? No. I was a fan of Styx with Dennis. He made a difference in their sound to me, so I likely would not care about the rest of these guys under whatever new name they chose.

I would also not feel as resentful toward them as I do now if they had used some sort of name to reflect that is was, indeed, a new group. It was going to look different and it was definitely going to sound different.

I agree with Sadie. None of these discussions would be going on if that had been the case.

I wouldn't have any different feelings toward the band if they were touring under a different name, nor would I regard Cyclorama or Big Bang differently.

If it had been a different name their would have been people saying they should have leep the name Styx, because they are playing Styx songs. I think they did they rightthing by keeping the name Styx, who would have went to see Renegade (insert name...) , with the current line up playing Styx songs? They did right-ERIC

Jefferson Starship is currently touring with many original members; but not Grace Slick. Are they still Jefferson Starship?

By the time Journey recorded Raised on Radio, there was only one original member left in the band (Neal Schon). Were they still Journey?

In contrast, the Storm had two original Journey members (G. Rolie, R. Valory) and one long time Journey member (Steve Smith) BTW: Rolie was the ORIGINAL lead singer for Journey. With Journey MIA at the time, could the Storm have been Journey?

The last ELO album had only Jeff Lynne from the 70's lineup while the previous ELO Part 2 albums had most of the 70's lineup; just not Lynne. Which version is ELO? (Or did it cease to be ELO when founding member Roy Wood left?)

Jethro Tull has likely had a dozen different lineups in their 35 year run (Ian Anderson being the only constant). Which is the real Tull?

Which is the proper lineup for Kiss? Eric Carr was in the band as long as Peter Criss (if not longer).

So then we come to Styx. Were they still Styx after J. Panozzo was replaced? Were they Styx after C. Panozzo left? Had they ceased being Styx after Curuleski left? What if Gowan had replaced DDY in 1979?

I'm honestly not sure of the answers. Just wanted to put these factoids out for discussion.

Not a very black and white issue, is it? Seems like it's more of an issue when it involves a higher profile member (DDY and Steve Perry come to mind) or a band that's in the media spotlight at that particular moment.

I would not have had aproblem with The Storm being called Journey. Kevin was my first choice to replace Perry has lead singer-ERIC

There was an interview sometime after the Bill Graham tribute concert where Neal said, "Even though that was the last incarnation of the band: Steve, Jonathan, and myself, I didn't want it to be billed as Journey (at the Bill Graham tribute). Journey was always: Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain AND Steve Smith AND Ross Valory."

I doubt the Storm could have legaly used the Journey name. If they could perform as Journey, and they went on tour performing a set of Journey songs, I doubt it would have went over well since NONE of the main guys were there: Perry, Cain, or Neal...At least Styx has JY and Tommy.
