I just saw The worst version of Too Much Time on my Hands
Shaw does not even sing it right anymore
The harmonies/ forget it there are none
The band did not sound tight at all
Look at the crowd all 20 year old girls
I knew it the Tommy chicks are the majority at these shows
And thats all I saw at the Today show

Guys get some sleep your act is tired looking and so are you.

I guess JY is still buyin

Can't wait for Blue Collar Man next ,

I didn't see it, bummer. Way too early to get up :)

Anyway on a few other boards, there were a couple posts that thought the sound & vocals were off on TMTOMH. Also a few commented that it looked like the cameras were telling the band to end the song earlier so it was a little mixed up. Not my comments, just from other boards.

Tommy has a ton of female followers, all ages.

Did they just play the 2 songs ? ( Too Much Time and Walrus .....)

I didn't catch the 1st hour of the show, so If they did anything in the 1st hour, I missed it.

I Recorded the 2nd hour on TiVO, and when I have time to figure out if/how I can record off TiVO and onto a DVD, I'll be glad to burn copies for anyone who wants one.

Gotta warn you though, it may be a while, as I am in the middle of a large freelance/consulting project thats got me hopping between posts here......

yeah the vocals were not great on tmtomh, tommy would never hold the end note on each line the whole song, and yeah you could tell they rushed them on the ending. imho, I am the walrus sounded great.

OK, so all I have to say is.....is this what everyone gets so excited about??? Unimpressive does not even begin to describe what I saw this morning. And I do mean Current Styx, not Lester and Campbell.

On a positive note. Great to see Chuck in his jaunty hat onstage. Love Tommy's blue Gibson guitar. If I went to a show I wonder if he would throw that to me instead of a guitar pick??? I guess not.

And what am I thinking? Go to one of their shows????

I am sorry. I just don't get it. I think I am mired in (and ADmire) too much the great music that was made by Classic Styx.

This is hilarious.
I usually go to cocerts at night, and it usually takes the band a few songs to hit their stride.
It's like you guys going to a concert and leaving after 2 songs saying the band was shite.
Ohh well ,your loss.

The DDY fan in me has to say:

Dennis does morning shows all the time... and every time he sounds perfect and on top of his game.

Lets not make excuses. Everyone has bad performances. If this was one, just say "ok - they sucked this time" and move on.

The vocals sucked
they were not way off Shaw's singing was terrible

Also a few commented that it looked like the cameras were telling the band to end the song earlier so it was a little mixed up.

Nice excuse it was way mixed up
Cameras do not tell the band to hurry up
They know in advance how long they have
It was A huge train wreck /

I have no doubts about Dennis.
Maybe Carrot Styx don't do morning shows.Maybe this was a first.Maybe not.
But,if you use this show as an excuse not to see them in concert, then I think it is rather weak.

How would you know
Did you even see the show?
These guys looked goofy up there
Shaw with the long hair
Phillips with his long hair
They look awefull on stage
Not a pretty site at all
As far as Im concerned Shaws voice is scorched
You have all the right in the world to base this farse as an excuse not to see them . I think even Kansas may say no to my tickets now.
Enough of the maybe's already

Taped the whole show and yes they only did the two songs. Gotta love those teasers they used during the show.

"Coming up later, Styx-(fade to a Video of Dennis singing Come Sail Away)

"Just around the corner, Styx-(fade to Dennis singing 'Lady')

The majority of the public still thinks of Styx as it was in 1983, 22 years of recent history has done nothing to change that.

I missed that but it doesn't surprise me. They used the Classic versions of Grand Illusion among others in their segues. Why not something from the new CD? Why not THEIR versions of those songs? I do not understand that at all.

I also noticed that as they started "Too Much Time on My Hands", the song began with a pre-record of the opening synth sonic sound from Dennis from the PT album. Then Mr. Gowan started playing.

For a group that wants to make a total break with Dennis, he sure plays a key role here and there.

Maybe Carrot Styx don't do morning shows.Maybe this was a first.Maybe not.

Oh, and Gr8, I am basing it upon more than just this performance. I realize early morning and the strictures of TV probably affected the performance somewhat.
I am just not impressed with anything about them. MY opinion, of course.

I have NEVER seen Styx in any carnation sound good on a live televsion broadcast. From their performances on the Tonight show, Rick Dees, Today, Good Morning America, etc. They always sound like crap. I think it's the way the sound is set up.

Dennis lost a high note once in concert when I saw the EOTC tour. Perry has had his trouble on shows. Augeri sounded bad first three songs of a bootleg I have, then Bam it turned around and he was awesome. Check out the Journey board on this site, about Journey early morning show. Show night before? sound check? bad day? who knows. Everyone has a bad song, day, or show. This was one of them. Move on-ERIC

If you are narrowminded, ofcourse you will use only these 2 songs to judge them.
No,i did not see the show.
But I am surprised you did.
You saw Styx without Dennis,,is that not against your better judgement??
I did not know you put so much emphasis on performers hair.
I myself could not care if their hair was pink, but I can now understand why Dennis is your man.

I thought they sounded just as good as any other time that I have seen them on live TV with or without Dennis. I do think that walrus sounded better of the two songs maybe because live is the only way we have ever heard it. By the way since the show this morning Big Bang went up over 100 spots on the Amazon chart. :D

Im sure the current band will appreciate your efforts that you stick up for them but the fact is it was a direct feed from the sound board that you heard and that folks is how Tommy Shaw and his pals really sound
There was no studio magic to cover up anything
They just sounded terrible.
If you saw the today show earlier in the week you saw Neil Diamond on the show and he sounded freakin great , So lets not blame TV for what you heard , Shaw may need to rest his voice it may be burned out.
As far as Gowan forget it
Seeing him on speed is not what Styx is all about that act may have worked in the first year but not anymore.
Also why does Chuck even play anymore whats the point
He looked goofy with the pink hat on .
This to me is all damage to the STYX legacy
Only 20 year old girls eat it up and the die hard fans are pretty much told to get lost. We don't care about the STYX from 20 years ago we are just using the name.

They are on the show for you to hear them and see them and then judge them , They are trying to promote themselves to sell you there product .
Now that it has backfired you come on here and try to protect them by saying wait a minuet they sucked but don't let that stop you from buying there products, How lame is that,
Get some kahunas and admit they are a dead band walking

No,i did not see the show.

Then your opinion means nothing

But I am surprised you did.

My wife called me up to see it
I sat there and said OH my god this train is wrecked
They just did not gel at all

I did not know you put so much emphasis on performers hair.

Shaw and Phillips look filthy to me STYX always was polished and looked great on stage . Now they look tired and in need of a bath.
Zan may get that bath water after all.

I myself could not care if their hair was pink, but I can now understand why Dennis is your man.

Dennis is my man because he would not allow any of this crap to happen to his band. YOU now see why he is the man.

Yoda wise man froy.
I thought you would have told your wife that Styx is not Styx without Dennis and on and on.
Anyways if my opinion means nothing due to me not having seen the show on TV.
Does that not leave a 1000 or so of your posts worthless, since you never actually saw Carrot Styx live or actually never heard BBT .
MAYBE.
You never let me down froy.
Thanks for a nice Saturday.Company is coming.

Not the same senerio G8 when you have seen the best from this band
its not nesessary to see spin off lineups

Styx performed 3 songs on the show, Too Much Time, Walrus and Renegade. Renegade was at the very end of the show and played after they signed off. Some stations aired it as they went to their next show, others cut it off at the sign off.

They were rushed into ending the songs because they had to fit the time table.

Soundcheck was at 5:15.

Those 20 something girls Froy were 17 and 18 something girls from a Class Trip. They all got up early to see Styx and the show let them in first. Like Tommy said in the interview portion, they have fans that span generations. Mature adults and their teenage kids who are discovering the old vinyl days.

I just watched the show on tv. It didn't translate as well as if you were there. I agree with those above, Styx of any version has has problem with direct feeds on tv over the years.

The fans of this line-up that were there also commented on the early teasers that flashed back to Dennis singing and unanimously feel that it is time that they do something in using footage of this lineup singing the songs. However, if they did this, I could also hear the Froy's screaming, "Look they're trying to remove Dennis's legacy on the band". Either way the Froy's of the world are gonna trash this issue.

On the holding of the notes. I have heard Dennis clip some notes. Not that this is a trash Dennis or Tommy on how long they hold a note, but they aren't 30 any more.

And Froy, we could have written your response to the show a week ago.

Yea right they were rushed so they could not figure out how to end the song
Nice excuse and a lame one..

Those 20 something girls Froy were 17 and 18 something girls from a Class Trip. They all got up early to see Styx and the show let them in first.

Just think these girls were not even born when STYX was at there peak
Now Shaw is banking on these types of fans
Bottom line the fans of 30 years get the shaft from Shaw and JY
Only the clueless fans are following this band
And Im sure they are Shaw lovers.

Like Tommy said in the interview portion, they have fans that span generations.

Yea and they also have lost 3/4 of them.
Did he say that also ?

I just watched the show on tv. It didn't translate as well as if you were there. I agree with those above, Styx of any version has has problem with direct feeds on tv over the years.

Its BS they had no problem with the VH1 unplugged
They had no problem with Fox in the Morning when they did
Paradise and On My Way
They had no problem with the Childrens Network
You guys try and try to justify anything this band does,
Some day you will all wake up.

The fans of this line-up that were there also commented on the early teasers that flashed back to Dennis singing and unanimously feel that it is time that they do something in using footage of this lineup singing the songs.

First of all why the hell are they even using Dennis De Young footage second of all
Yes it is tiime
Time to dump Lawerence Gowan.
Then the footage problem would be solved.

However, if they did this, I could also hear the Froy's screaming, "Look they're trying to remove Dennis's legacy on the band".

They have tried to do this for 6 years and the only legacy they have removed is there own.
17 year olds may not know the difference but true die hard STYX fans sure do.
We know who the leader of STYX is no matter what scam Shaw and Young try to pull off,

Either way the Froy's of the world are gonna trash this issue.

Im glad you speak on my behalf but if you look back NH you will see I was not the one to bring this up.
After 1 song I could not watch anymore.

On the holding of the notes. I have heard Dennis clip some notes. Not that this is a trash Dennis or Tommy on how long they hold a note, but they aren't 30 any more.

I saw Dennis sing when he was as sick as a dog just 1 year ago and he nailed every damm note
Again stick up for Shaw thats your job.

And Froy, we could have written your response to the show a week ago.

StyxfanNH. Thank you for bringing the eyewitness account. I am very happy you got to go and, even better, hear another song.

It looked like everyone in the audience was having a good time and the weather looked perfect.

The fact that some (including me) don't like this lineup should not diminish anyone else's enthusiasm and I always like to read the posts of those who are actually there. So thanks.

Just another note, It was probably about 40 degrees and it was fairly windy.

That is what Larry's comment was about "letting your knickers down" line during Walrus when he added, "not with this weather"

----------------
I can accept that some don't take this lineup as Styx.

But as i said in another thread, some need to get over their first encounter in the back of their car with their first date and move on.

If you think this applies to you, then it probably does. But I'm not lumping all of the non-supporters, so don't think I am.
----------------

Thanks Bugsy
It is possible to support all versions of this band.

Exactly Suite just because Tommy Shaw and JY need cash we are all supposed to just forget about the STYX band we all grew up with
That is totally selfish If you ask me
I will never forget sitting in the back yard on a warm July night hearing Come Sail Away for the very first time
According to NH Im just supposed to forget that and run to see some hyped up copycat sing the song
NO WAY.
Everyone stay away from STYX let them play to 17 year olds,
