This from Billboard.com:

Top 50 debuts this week include Van Zant's "Get Right With the Man" (Columbia) at No. 21 with 41,000; Robert Plant and Strange Sensation's "Mighty Rearranger" (Sanctuary) at No. 22 with 39,000; Spoon's "Gimme Fiction" (Merge) at a career-best No. 44 with 20,000; and Styx's "Big Bang Theory" (New Door) at No. 46 with 19,000.

The 18th Styx record to chart, it's also the band's highest charting release since "Caught in the Act" peaked at #31 in 1984.

I am going to say this right now.

I am sincerely impressed.

Didn't "Edge Of The Century" chart higher tho? They had a #3 hit on that...... had to have charted pretty high.

Giving credit where it's due...congrats to the band.

That is indeed a nice moment for they, and their fans.

Ok hold the phone.

I just looked on Billboard's top 100 chart for albums that ends May 21, 2005... and Styx is not on it... this is the album chart. Now sometimes this stuff is a week behind so I could be wrong... and I don't doubt what you're saying... I'm just looking for the evidence myself because...... well frankly I don't trust what people say on a forum lock, stock and barrel.

The phone is on hold. LOL

Looking at the band's listed above, this could be in the "Classic Rock" category or "oldies" (LOL) category and not the "main" Billboard chart.

The other Styx albums charted on the "current music" charts during those years.

Okay...I'll put it on hold. When someone knows, let us all know.

And, even if it is not the main chart, it's still nice if they charted on Billboard...somewhere.

That looks about right 20 thousand cds
It is probably correct

Yes, 20,000 CDs sold the first week does seem right. That is a better first week then any Styx CD since 1984. Thank you very much.
The May 21st chart is from last week. Styx is on the Main Album chart for the week ending May 28th.

The new chart with Styx's debut is for the week ending May 28, which will be online tomorrow. It is for the Billboard Top 200 Albums, not for any other chart.

I found this at Billboard.com under chart alert.

Dave Matthews Band Makes A 'Stand' At No. 1
- May 18, 2005
Dave Matthews Band blasts onto the chart with its fourth No. 1 album, "Stand." All of its studio efforts since 1998 have opened in the top spot ... Weezer logs its highest chart peak yet, as its new set enters at No. 2 ... Dierks Bentley bows in the pole position on Top Country Albums and nabs his first top 10 on The Billboard 200 ... World Wrestling Entertainment champion John Cena makes handsome bows on three charts with his debut ... A number of rock veterans see high entries this week, including Van Zant, Robert Plant and Styx ... Merge Records and Spoon have reasons to celebrate ... The Starting Line makes an incredible start ... while everyone from Robert Earl Keen, M.I.A., Amos Lee, Pray for the Soul of Betty (featuring former "American Idol" contender Constantine Maroulis) and Team Sleep make chart noise

#46 is a triumph? I haven't laughed so hard in a while.

For crying out loud, Robert Plant doubled their sales.

Don't set the bar too low, bud. At this pace they'll be lucky to sell 50,000 as there will be a steep dropoff next week.

All this when they were practically giving the discs away for $8.

If I remember correctly weren’t you the one who said the Big Bang Theory wouldn’t make it into the top 100?

GREAT JOB STYX!!!!!!! 30 plus years in, and they have the 46th best selling CD in America. Thats TRULY awesome !!!

I wonder if you go back to 1975 and Equinox then subtract 30 years, if any bands, or singers form 1945 charted then!!!

FANTASTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT!!! Hopefully, this will help them when they come up with their next CD of all new material.

The low price is also a very good move. Look what Prince did by giving his CD away at concerts. Journey says they will now do this. Good marketing ploy!!

If 19000 cds gets you the 46 top selling record then there is a problem
It should not even be listed
They should only list cds that sell a min of 100 thousand units
A top 10 if you will.
46 is nothing.

Yogi its a cover cd
They could do this accomplishment every 6 months

Has Dennis recently sold 19,000 CD's? This isnt to rip Dennis. But..... if he covered 'classic rock' songs of the 1960's and 19,000+ people purchased his CD dont you think this would help his sales on his next CD??

It is a smart ploy, whoever does it. Styx is getting radio play. I heard I Dont Need No Doctor , Summer In The City & Walrus on the radio. Remake or not this exposure does help future CD & concert sales.

If an act wants to be relevant in todays market, its a good ploy!!

This is a big deal and if Dennis were ever to have anything close to this kind of success several people on this board would be wetting their pants!

First off, Dennis is not using the name STYX so it would be like comparing apples and oranges.

Second, I would not be wetting my pants, however this news of 19,000 sales certainly got you wet. What a triumph!! ROTFLMAO.

The only problem I see comes from people like you who say "this won't even sell 10,000 cds" and then Styx DOUBLES THAT in the first week...and yet you still don't see how wrong you are.

The problem comes from people like you who spout that the CD has fizzled - and you are COMPLETELY wrong. You only say such things because that is what you WANT to happen. This is a strong CD, despite what you want to believe.

Styx is on the right track, people like you jumped the track at least six years ago.

MediaPlay was a good indicator of what was getting airplay. That translated into sales. Get over it...it happened.

Say what you will GetALife but for a 30 year old band with virtually no chart success in the past 15 years this is pretty damn good!! Enjoy the next DDY show tune CD on “Had to make them in my basement” Record Label!!!!! Maybe you'll wet yourself listening to that.

Yo Bradon Walsh,

Damn wrong Fox show. They sure as hell did have record charts back in 1975. Can you read and comprehend???? Billboard ??, but they sure as hell had charts. They had top 40's, top 100's etc... They even #1 records and albums. Didnt Best Thing peak at # 82??
So Dylan,( damnit, did it again) do you think any act from 1945 was on the charts back in 1975??????

It is DAMN DAMN impressive that Styx is in the top 50 30 plus years after their first album!!!!!!

I conclude with a favorite of mine:

and no one can talk to his horse of course..
that is of course
unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.
Go right to the source and ask the horse
he'll give you the answer that you endorse
he's always on a steady course
talk to Mr. Ed

Really Did I say for 100 percent certain they would sell 10K cds
It was an estimate and shows the band has about 19 thousand fans
Gee I was wrong they sold 20 thousand which is still totally ridiculous
Which makes you wrong saying the band is better off without Dennis
But you won't admit that
Heck a WWE wrestler sold more cds than Styx but you say its all joy in Styx land
How wrong can you be?

The problem comes from people like you who spout that the CD has fizzled -

Next week you will see my words are true when this tanks in the toilet
Will you be here to tell me Im right
No of course not .

Styx is on the right track, people like you jumped the track at least six years ago.

Is this the same track that you just said was the wrong track and then you changed your mind
You are not credable your like John Kerry flip flop .

Hey, while you guys are talking about Billboard (LOL), I thought I'd add this:

Rob Thomas recently made chart history as his first solo album, ...SOMETHING TO BE, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was the first time a male artist from a rock or pop group debuted at #1 with their first solo album since Billboard introduced the chart 50 years ago.

Kudos to the label.

You guys can get all excited for this release, but truth be told this is on par for what other similar artists are doing... it's not bad... but it's not great either.

ROBERT PLANT sold twice as many CDs with nowhere near the promotion.
