I Inherited the Shania and the Hootie upon the exchanging of Marital vows....Paid good money for the rest. Many of these I owned on vinyl 1st, then CD.

I LOVE The Beatles... still the greatest band EVER.

IML, I'm with you on this one, I have most everything released by The Beatles. Only the recent release of the Amercican versions of their
CD's is missing.

I have all their stuff too... the American versions for the most part aren't worth getting if you're used to the British releases as they sound much better overall without all the needless echo and reverb added by the American record companies.

The American CD releases were really just to satisfy the people who grew up with those versions in he 60s. I'm not one of those people.

They were a huge inflluence on Dennis DeYoung. It made him realize you could have beautiful melodies, superb harmonies, and intelligent lyrics and be successful.

I don't own any of those Beatles collections because I own all the Beatles albums.

It is truly amazing to see, on this list, the sheer numbers of a single recording that were sold. Some, by themselves, equal or go far beyond, other artists' entire catalog of sales.

Some truly were a one-time thing for several of those artists listed. How do you equal the success of "Jagged Little Pill" or "Cracked Rear View" ? Well .........you don't.

The funny thing is, I haven't really heard a Beatles' song I don't like. I just never was exposed to a lot of their stuff. At this point, the thought of tackling their entire catalog seems overwhelming. If anyone has one release they would recommend over the others, I'm all ears.

Wow, that's a hard one..... You could go the route of one of the 2 greatest hits collections in the all-time top 25 ( 62-66 or 67-70 )

But, I'd presonally recommend Abbey Road. You will probably get lots of varying advice on this though, because "it's all good" !

Great topic, EK! I admit, I don't have many (see below), but that's because I spent most of my very hard earned babysitting money on Styx album (and the first few solos). Nearly all that I have are on vinyl or cassette, we've only had a cd player in the house for about 2 years (still don't have one in the car), so I'm slowly converting the collection over to cd.

I second that. Many consider this the best Beatles album ever done. Many would argue that it is Sgt. Pepper's. I recommend both of those.

Revolver and Rubber Soul are also great albums.

If you just buy one, Abbey Road is it.

If you're looking for a good place to start "hit wise" go with Beatles One which is a career spanning compilation of their number one hits.

I'm right there with you, Suite! I never have been able to get into most of the Beatles' music. "Too trippy" is a great description, IMO. I guess that explains why I was so surprised when I heard DeYoung say in a recent interview that they (TW4? Styx?) wanted to be the Beatles. But if they were the inspiration that led the boys to form Styx, then I guess they can't be all bad

I like some of their music, however I think they were in the right place at the right time. I think they hit at a time when rock and roll was evolving. They were different than what was out there. That isn't to say they didn't have a tremendous amount of talent.

I think the band (Dennis, JY, etc) got caught up in what they represented. Their music, their style showed their audience something unique. And they made it look easy.

I have often thought they were just a bunch of talented guys who "hit".

No direspect meant whatsoever to those that do find them so awesome.
