For 1 Assembly Line lets all see if we can avoid the Gowan sucks, Dennis is god, Tommy and JY are the anti..... .

I was wondering if ANYONE ( Suite, Froy, Psycho, etc) could come up with an answer to the following questions.

What are the legalities of Dennis coming back to Styx. Legally can he???
JY stated they would be playing ice hockey on the river Styx before Dennis would re surface with the group. EVEN JY has got to be smart enough to know people do make up. And for MANY MANY moons Dennis was the straw that stirred Styx, and was the voice that people recognized the world over.

Could there be MAJOR legal ramifications if Dennis did re join the band??
Could that be the reason why Dennis may never play in the band Styx again?

If Dennis rejoined and they played under the name of Styx would this screw JY, Tommy & Chuck cash wise?? Dennis was the one who took JY, Tommy & Chuck to court. Now in hindsight would of he been better off just leaving the entire situation alone?????

Could the agreement they all signed be the reason Dennis is now not on stage, and recording with the band he helped form ???????????

I don't think the lawsuit had anything to do Dennis rejoining the band... he wasn't suing them to allow him back into the band, he was suing to dispute their rights to use the name without compensating him.

They reached a deal out of court... either he met their terms or they agreed to terms that he outlined.

My guess is Dennis and his lawyers looked around and saw what was a viable end game.... then drew up an agreement and presented it to Tommy and JY and they decided to accept it rather than go to court.

Maybe the agreement Dennis got was along the lines of the one Steve Perry recieved from Journey... who knows.

My guess is Dennis got a few things... he got the right to use the name Styx when promoting his own shows and he probably gets some sort of percentage from the touring Styx shows since they're using his music.

And, your 'guess' would be wrong...Since it was Styx who filed for summary judgement, or whatever, asking the judge to take the evidence and end the case...and it was Dennis who then balked and settled.

The settlement was out of court. It never went before a judge. Asking for a summary judgement was just a way to push closure on the case sooner than later.

Regardless what was agreed to, I doubt that there was anything legal to stop Dennis from rejoining Styx other than the others desire to say it was ok. The Hockey on the river Styx was how JY felt at the time and was/is his sentiment alone. Even Tommy has said at one point, maybe someday. From things I have heard, Chuck is probably closer to JY's camp but not so close as never.

Dennis, while not getting what he completely wanted, is allowed to tour with Styx in the name of his promotion but not as Styx.

I'm going to guess as most of us are that Dennis gets a small cut from each show.

If they did rejoin they would undoubtedly have to enter into a new agreement as Tommmy and JY would undoubtedly want to include stuff that was recorded since Dennis left and they would probably want to bring Larry along to cover that material.

And he's not onstage recording with Styx because at this moment, he is not part of Styx.

I suppose ( depending on technique and all.........) Dennis might be the one hurt by all the sucking going on in this thread, him being on the receiving end and all.

And I am already sorry I lowered myself into this discussion......

To answer the original question, I agree with ItsMyLife (gasp!) and others. I don't think there's any legal reason AGAINST DDY & Styx reuniting.

Personally, I think it's inevitable.

But it'll be a while yet. The band (AND DDY) are doing well as things are. When/if the careers start hitting troubled times there'll be more incentive to bury the hatchets.

Until then, it seems to me that everyone is happy - perhaps happier than EVER. I mean, Dennis doesn't have to face resistance to any of his ideas from his organization now, as he no doubt did in the past. The guy can decide what he wants to do & how he wants to do it.
