What? A Styx Box set being released and I'm just finding out about it? LOL
Did anyone else hear about it?
Here's the info:
3 LPs on 3 CDs: CRYSTAL BALL (1976)/ THE GRAND ILLUSION (1977)/PIECES OF EIGHT (1978).
Here's the Pre-order from Wal-Mart:

I want to know who wrote that bio -- Tommy, the Mrs. or Tommy's Mother -- I had no idea there was no Styx without Tommy Shaw. Wow!

Why get us excited for something we already have?
I would like to see a box set of live-rare-unrealesed stuff.

Exactly...this isn't a true 'box set'.

Not to mention that if a person does a little shopping around, he or she can buy the three albums separately for less money. Yet another puzzling Styx release.

If memory serves correct, didn't they have a 'box set' they released about 10 - 15 years ago. I heard the rumor it would include demos and unreleased material, so I went to go get it only to find out that the set in question was in reality Equinox, Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight arranged in a baseball diamond formation within a huge plastic clamshell. Did anyone else ever see that one? At least this new one makes an attempt to have a box.

The boys have nothing to do with this release. It's simply a collection put together by the record company for discount stores. You won't see it at any music retail establishments (i.e. best buy, sam goodies, etc)
It is simply a marketing tool to sell older albums, and with the recent limited success of BBT, and the inexpensive packaging costs, the record company has found yet another way to generate sales from older albums.
Hey - with DDY getting royalties from the older CD's - he's probably thrilled with this.
