Its obvious to this day fans still have no idea why Dennis was dumped

We have The Behind The Music Story from the band itself saying Dennis could not tour and wanted 6 months to get better so they dumped him.

That did not look good for the band so we have fans who run to there aid and make up there own stories to put the blame on Dennis with the he was a jerk to work with , he was not writting rock songs any more.
Ect Ect.

Then we have my story about the VW commercial and how the band got so mad that Dennis did not split the 500 thousand with him they dumped him never to speak to him again.
In fact JY won't answer any questions about that commercial
He say's you have to ask Dennis about that,

The fact is they have not talked to Dennis in 6 years and are still saying they would never set foot on stage with the guy.

What did Dennis do to make these 2 guys so hatefull towards him after 25 years of dedication to the band?

Could Dennis being sick and asking for 6 months to get better get them to hate him so much even after 6 years have gone by?

We really need to move on, what happened, happened. There is no way to go back in time and change anything. Events within the band happened in the mid-1970's that got the "inner" train wreck going. It's each member and not one specific, no matter what everyone thinks on this board. It's all of them. We need to move on and just enjoy the music that brought us together. Let's get off "who did what" to who. Froy, this will keep going on and on - please move on.

I don't think Tommy is SO hateful toward Dennis.

Styx in every form created awesome music. Dennis is creating awesome music and great concerts. Glen is even creating great music, for those Glen fans.

If the illness was the reason they dumped him, they are two HUGE jerks.

My personal opinion is that they no longer liked what he brought to the table. They probably felt the ONLY thing he was bringing was that AWESOME voice. His writing skills have diminished sooo much in terms of rock music they felt he was no longer the superstar of the 70's/ early 80's.

Add to this that they never really liked him much. He was just a guy they worked with and not a friend. Its a whole lot easier to cut ties with a co-worker as opposed to a friend.

His illness gave them an easy out to make what in essence was a business decission. Get rid of the guy we dont really like, who does not really want to tour much and no longer can write a good rock& roll song.

This is all my opinion. It is based on NO real facts, just theories I have come up with from listening and observing what has happened within the band. But its over with, and has been for six years so what can you do.

Now for something factual. I had to take a road trip and I listened to 2 bootleg recordings. Poor quality but AWESOME. One is called 'The Final Paradise' It was recorded in Japan and Dennis and the group shine like NEVER before. They played Lights, Boat On The River, Great White Hope, and all the rest of the Paradise Theatre songs. If I remember correctly, when I saw this concert they didnt play the above. The Japanese TRULY got their moneys worth. After AD 1958 and state Street Sadie, The Grand Finalie closed the show. Did this happen in the U.S.??

Two funny things happen in this concert. First JY comes on before Great White Hope and says.... Domo Arigoto to the Japanese Styx fans. Its the only time I hear anyone in the band say this. If JY only knew what HE was about to start??. Maybe, he should be the one to take credit or.... blame for the Kilroy album.

Finally, before Tommy plays Fooling Yourself he talks like a total backwards hick. Have any of you heard this???

The second boot I listened to was recorded in Ontario in 1977. It was from the Crystal Ball tour. AWESOME. They close with 22 Years. I found this REALLY odd.

Damn, I wish these recordings were better. DAMN they were GREAT!!!!

Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum were just looking for an excuse to somehow get Dennis out of the band for a number of years. He really did become ill, they could've waited for him to recover, but they didn't. Why would he go to so many doctor's to see what he had? No one could pinpoint what he had right away. So many tests done.

I think one of the things that makes many long for the group to reunite with Dennis, and Dennis with them, is the fact that they are still (mostly) firing on all cylinders.

Dennis is in great voice and his keyboard skills have not diminished.

Tommy and JY still have great chops. JY not so much with his voice anymore, but he can play.

All of them are healthy.

But....it won't happen for oh so many reasons. The break was complete and we all have to decide what we do and do not like with regards to music and concerts from any and all of these guys.

Suite is right. The band for all intents and purposes started fracturing in the 70's. (Remember, Dennis WAS fired before).

What caused the fracturing cannot be repaired, but I think many fans are very happy with Dennis on his own and Styx as it now is.

Who is more successful. Who has the better show. Who is more "talented" are just silly, moot arguments, and get those who continue to fuss about this nowhere.

I think Dennis has made peace with what is going on in his life and we know Styx is quite satisfied with how their career is clicking along.

For all the bickering and squabbling, all it would take would be a dialogue between Tommy and Dennis. Everyone else would follow the leaders. Don't think it will happen personally, not even sure I'd want it to, but Tommy is the key. Everyone else does what they are told, JY included.

I respectfully disagree. I honestly think JY is the lynchpin. Tommy has always struck me as the guy who goes where he feels it will do him the most good. If that means working with Dennis again, he'll go. JY...don't see it happening.

All that being said...simply put, at it's most basic...for the umpteenth time...the men grew apart, changed their expectations of themselves and the band.

No matter whether Dennis was sick, Tommy needed money, JY is a bitter person, and any other myriad slew of things we all have conjecture about, they are far better off apart.

I do believe Dennis was sick. I don't think that is the reason for the split. I think they took advantage of the illness to press their own agenda. Does that make them good or bad? This seems to be where some of our own dissension comes from. And it's something that cannot be resolved because everyone has their own ethics and morals. So...once more round the bend we'll go.

Let em stay seperate. Let them do what they want. As children of this "divorce" we don't really have a say beyond accepting what we cannot control or change.

I do agree with Scott 100% on what he said. Tommy IS the key. If Tommy agrees to play again with Dennis, JY will follow. I dont think it is because JY is so much a follower as is the fact that he knows he has been there from day 1. He is the TRUE Godfather of Styx. Like it or not that is a fact. It is a fact JY himself knows and appreciates. It is who he is. Todd too will follow. As for Chuck ?????? I doubt it. Maybe Glen again???( that I TRULY hope for) Ricky???????????????????????

Lawerence would be given his walking papers if this did happen. Until, or if it ever does happen, Lawerence Gowan is the BIGGEST and BRIGHTEST STAR of this band. His star is bright and he is the bands SUPERSTAR.

Live, in concert he is soooo much better than the rest(other than Todd) a band name change to something like 'The Drumming Gowan's & the Benchwarmers' might be warranted.

I don't know any of the band members personally. I have not witnessed firsthand any of what was said behind closed doors. With the exception of the 1996 reunion, I wasn't even a Styx fan while the "classic" lineup was together. All my knowledge of the breakup comes from various interviews or media coverage. Who can figure that out? There are conflicting stories left and right, depending on which band member is being interviewed or quoted (sometimes, even contradicting themselves, it seems). For me to sit here and try to knowledgeably answer the question "What is the real reason Styx broke up?" would be impossible. For that matter, it would be absolute foolishness on my part. So I'm sorry, froy, the best I can do is say I DON'T KNOW. Speaking for myself only, this topic is NOT very alive.

And, why should the band sit and wait for Mr. Dibbly to find out what was wrong with him? There was no definite time frame of when Dennis would be back. There was album to promote and tour for so they toured for it.

Quite frankly, if Dennis would have waited until the end of the BNW tour, after he had recovered, and THEN tried to get back into the band, I could have supported that. But, being an asshole and suing the band was WAY out of line, IMO. I know he has his excuses...but, patience does NOT seem to be one of his virtues.

That is not to denigrate Dennis’ talent in the least. Stylistically he and I were always diametrically opposed at our core, but it was the middle ground where we could collaborate that the band had its greatest success.

Yes, Monker - What should have Dennis done? He wanted to still be in the band Styx, a band that he co-founded and that he would still like to be in today.

It's interesting that during part of Kilroy tour, some of the concert dates had to be rescheduled or cancelled due to Tommy's "hand injury". They waited for him to recover. It's also interesting how he "really" injured his hand too, right into a window.
