If a band were to cover a Styx song in concert...

Postby Soloud » Mon Jun 06, 2005 11:37 am

what song would you like to hear and by who?

I think Dream Theater breaking into Suite Madame Blue would be cool or Rik Emmett doing Man in the Wilderness.

Sorry of this topic was discussed before, I may have missed it in wading through all the good vs evil posts. Just curious what others would find cool on this topic

Nah, Journey should cover Lights...just for the irony.

Maybe he can get the prison mates doing the "yip yip yip yip yip bow bow" part....

This is an interesting topic. Some of the suggestions are pretty good. I'm not coming up with any earthshattering ideas, personally. It's just interesting to read everyone else's. :)

I like the Bad Company and Rush choices

Another one I thought of would be Y&T doing something like Too Much Time on My Hands. They could really do a good job of giving that song a good blues/rock twist

Oh ok….that direction huh.

Kiss Your Ass Goodbye – Green Day (This song is a ripoff of Green Day anyway, so why not)

Love in the Midnight – George Michael

Criminal Mind/I Am the Walrus/Salty Dog Medley – Alvin and the Chipmunks

Shooz – Fantasia

Rather than lowering your posts to the level of those you profess to distain, wouldn't it be best to let it go and participate productively or not at all? It sure doesn't *seem* like everyone is tired of the bickering.

Aw Zan........Just having a little fun with the topic. I guess I can only speak for myself, but my "cyber-tongue" was planted firmly in my
"cyber-cheek" !!!

And Monker, a Deyoung/Perry (or would that be Perry/DeYoung ?) duet of KYAGB is a hilareous idea! and....it just MIGHT produce some terrific harmonies !!!

Well, this topic so quickly went "there." I actually do have some serious ideas, but figured they would get drubbed quickly.

Maybe I will post them later.

But, you know three of my suggestions would work and are NOT out in left field. Green Day COULD do a killer Kiss Your Ass. And George Michael has an amazing voice. Fantasia has a great R & B voice and Shooz could be made into a good R & B flavored song.

I would add that I would love to hear Josh Groban cover any of DDY's songs from The Hunchback.

Oh, and I like the idea of Devo and "Music Time."

KYAG by Green Day is a good idea. A lot of their lyrics are quite clever as well, so the song would be an all around good fit.

I'd LOVE to hear Evanescence tackle Come Sail Away.

Some others:

Together - Ninedays ( I think it sounds like a Ninedays song, anyway)
Everything Is Cool - Rob Zombie
Mr. Roboto - Linkin Park
Fooling Yourself - Jackson Browne

After reading the posts, I too think KYAG would be great done by Green Day.

Bugsy, perfect choice on Josh Groban on the Hunchback songs!!

I like to hear Dream Theater sing "Castle Walls"
Rob Thomas singing "Lady"
Aerosmith "Light Up"
Metallica "Come Sail Away" in a real heavy metal way
Rik Emmett with either "Mademoiselle" or "Crystal Ball"

Good topic Soloud :)

I would love to see a keyboard oriented group like Keane do "Mother Dear". Or SOMEone do Mother Dear. What a great song!

Cool choices, Suite.

Matchbox Twenty and/or Rob Thomas -- A lot of songs from the Styx catalog would be a fit with them.

How about the White Stripes doing "Best Thing" ?

I hope so! I'm diggin' the topic so far! (And yes, I know it did...I was just pointing out that we can still have fun in spite of the land mines as opposed to planting more.) :)

I picture Groban doing "Paradise" more than anything. Fantasia doing Shooz scares me a little. Maybe Bo. Of course, he'd probably do "Man in the Wilderness" well. ;-)

Good one Zan, Bo singing "Man in the Wilderness"!!

DeeJayStyx - another good one, Kansas singing "Crystal Ball"

I'll add: Metallica singing "Miss America"

Ek88, LOL, you noticed Rob on my list -

** Useless Information Alert**

Speaking about Rob Thomas, he's doing pretty good and is on a roll. His debut solo album has just been certified platinum by the RIAA for U.S. sales exceeding one million copies and he's also going to perform at Live 8. Oh, and his song "This is How a Heart Breaks" is the official theme of ABC-TV's coverage of the NBA playoffs and finals and included in the opening of each telecast.

Wow, I can totally hear DT doing Suite Madame Blue! There was a local melodic metal band back in Indy, whose name escapes me, that used to play SMB. It would totally catch the crowd off guard.

I wonder if Ice Age has ever covered a Styx song. Thier singer sounds so much like DDY sometimes, and they could really add a great prog vibe. I think they would kill on SMB too.

Agree 100% about Ice Age, the guy sounds a lot like DDY. I had thought about them but chose not to list since the voice would sound so similar.

Another DDY sound alike is the guy from a band called Vox Tempus.
