Continue to tour with an orchestra or revert to a basic band for future shows ?.....I think the whole orchestra idea is a good one and he should carry on with the format.

It depends. There are a lot of cities that are requesting Dennis to come and perform with their or an orchestra/symphony that he hasn't played before. Actually he's been getting a LOT of requests. If he's returning to the same city, then I would like to see a show like the Lost Treasures show. I would think next year would be different if he's going to promote his new album. I'm sure it would be a mix of his Styx songs, more of his solo work along with a few new songs. It would probably be with his band.

Right now he's doing a ton of corporate shows.

His set list might look like this (this is just my opinion):

A.D. 1928
Rockin' The Paradise
Grand Illusion
Lorelei
Lady
New song
Desert Moon
Harry's Hands
Don't Wait For Heroes
New song
Don't Let It End

Intermission

Pieces of Eight
Castle Walls
Borrowed Time
Best Thing
Christopher, Mr. Christopher
Suite Madame Blue
Babe
First Time

Encore:
Best of Times
Come Sail Away

Goodbye Roseland would be a good song to end with, especially at a Chicago show.

I would prefer he would drop the orchestra. Keep in mind I haven't seen him in person and am basing this opinion entirely on what I've heard from his live CD. The orchestra, in my opinion, adds nothing to his music. If anything, I think it takes away from it. However, it's very possible that seeing him live would change my feelings on this matter. Many times a CD recording doesn't do justice to the actual show.

OMG - all I can say is "PIECES OF EIGHT"!!! I think it's awesome with the orchestra, the middle addition is the best- WOW!! I heard it both ways and it's so much better with the orchestra. Also "Suite Madame Blue" is Great too!! Oh and "Castle Walls" and even "Mr. Roboto".

I like every version. But I have to say the "Lost Treasures" show in Chicago has to be one of the best. The only thing missing was the 2nd guitar on "Queen of Spades". Also the first solo show in Milwaukee in 2000 - WOW.

I hope someday you'll be able to see both versions. :)

Suite is off doing something really cool.

I have heard Black Wall with orchestra and it works very, very well. Dramatic and powerful.

I am one who does not care how Dennis DeYoung showcases his voice. Band only or orchestra and band. It is all about the voice. Oh, and his great music. ALL of it.

Black Wall is my favorite cut off "The Music of Styx" Tommy Dzalio's solos are really good, and the Children's choir backing him up on the chorus adds some punch too.

IMO, it's significantly better than the studio version.

I'm not as enamored with some of the other cuts on that CD, but Black Wall is a keeper !

I like all 3 versions of his shows, as they showcase different aspects of the songs.

For orchestra, I simply love Castle Walls.

Lost Treasures is a great show, because it is rare and not overdone.

And I hope Suite knocks it out of the park today!

Ek,

You mean you hadn't heard? In addition to being our resident expert on bragging and free stuff it would seem that Suite can hit a mean outside curve ball and has recently hooked up with a barnstorming slow pitch softball team.

Actually I believe it may have something to do with why she was asking for questions to ask Dennis Hmmmmm......

Stay tuned.
