Aside from being Styx songs, what do "You Need Love", "I'm Gonna Make You Feel It" & "Lords of the Ring" have in common?

Partly right, Classic. All songs were written by Dennis DeYoung and sung by James Young.

I really like You Need Love and I'm Gonna Make You Feel It and feel JY was the right choice to sing lead on those.
Good ROCKING songs written by Dennis DeYoung.

Okay,

You are ALL right. But Bugsy got the answer I was fishing for.

Zan, your answer reminds me of Cliff Clavin's final answer on Jeopardy. "They are two people who have not been in my kitchen." J.K. Actually your answer was much more on the money than that.

All 3 are among my all time Favs by the Group.....I really wish they's achieved commercial success with this type of song, perhaps they wouldn't have .......aw, never mind, not in the mood to start a flame war today.

Haha! That's funny. I always liked Cliffy. However, I wasn't really so much answering your question as expressing my extreme fatigue over the whole "Dennis can/can't ROCK" argument - as if him being a ROCKER is some guage to measure his overall talent or something. Dennis hasn't writen a ROCKING song in over 20 years. SOME people believe that means he's "spent." SOME people PREFER the softer ballads/showtunes, and SOME people won't even acknowledge that there has been any change in Dennis' writing style since 1977.

The guy doesn't do ROCK songs anymore. He hasn't for YEARS. That doesn't mean he NEVER did or that he NEVER will again. It also doesn't mean he's washed up or his career's in the toilet. This isn't a competition to prove that he can write rock songs. :)

If I misread the post I was replying to, I apologize. I just get so tired of seeing the same "proof" or "disproof" over & over again on this subject.

Wow. You read way more into what I said than I intended. Those were three very rocking songs. End of statement. Has nothing to do with what Dennis did THEN or Dennis is doing NOW. Those songs are a part of his songwriting legacy. Period.

I happen to like the whole spectrum of his songwriting career, with the exception of a few songs, which, literally, make me cringe.

What he did/does is not for everyone, and that has always been true and likely will be in the future, wherever the road takes him.
