1. Of course, there is the famous "Best Thing" footage which has John C in it. My guess is that there may be some bootleg footage somewhere, but those were the times pre-hand held videocam, so it may be something without any sound on it. It would be interesting to know if anyone filmed this early version of Styx professionally. If so, VH1 was unable to get their hands on any of it.

2. I think Styx proved they could do a KILLER album before Tommy's time with Equinox, which remains my personal favorite Styx album. Don't know if they would have been "as big" or not . I personally think yes.

3. Huh?

4. NO contest. Styx 1, Yogi.

1. No
2. No
3. I assume you are referring to the EOTC 2 release that would have had It Takes Love on it? It probably would have had a little push from EOTC and the EOTC tour that rekindled interest in the franchise, but I doubt it would have sold or charted as well.

As for the two hypothetical Styx line-ups you proposed, you kinda stacked the deck against Dennis in all ways except giving him Todd (taking your fandom with Glen respectably in account). With a slight edge I would lean to the JY, Tommy, John P., Chuck P. and Larry line-up.

A couple of reasons: Three founding member -vs- two. JY/Tommy has four 'classic' members. JY/Tommy has three strong vocalists, while Team DDY only has one (DDY) albeit the strongest of all of them. I never was much of a John C. vocal fan. JY/Tommy has stronger guitar section while Team DDY has the stronger Rhythm section. I have always thought of Styx as Dennis/Tommy/JY with everyone else as role players.

I think a better split of talent may go like this:

DDY/Tommy/Ricky/John C./John P. -vs-
JY/Glen/Larry/Todd/Chuck
