Did you listen to those clips on the front page of MR?

They even have him singing to the studio tracks.

My God... how low can you stoop?

I just don't get the whole "if the singer leaves the band sucks" mentality. These werent "DDY and Band" or "Steve Perry and Band" etc, they were GROUPS. Perry wasnt even the original singer for Journey, just the most successful. Its seems a rather narrow minded viewpoint with a few fatal flaws. By your logic, Journey should have sucked WITH Perry, since he wasnt the "original". As for Foreigner, I havent seen the current line up, but I have seen Kelly Hansen live, and he is an incredible vocalist, and frankly, I dont hear the comparison to Lou...

I am interested to hear what bands you DO like in thier current lineups....care to enlighten us? Because as I have stated before, the ONLY band that I know of that has stayed intact over thier career is U2...

Just curious..

I never have once said "original" line-up's only. This is what your types always assume. It's all or nothing with you guys.

I take it on a case-by-case basis.

Dennis DeYoung was the main writer; arranger; producer and voice of Styx. 'Nuff said.

Steve Perry had such a unique and incredible voice... while being a main creative force in the band... that you can't just plug in another guy, even one who sounds similar, and continue on at this stage of the game...

To me that's just fraud.

Journey is a JOKE by geting a guy who sounds just like Perry.

Neil wasnt the original drummer....I think his name was John Rutsey. He left after the first album.

Now that's funny because Styx has ALWAYS had at least three front men/song writers. It's the diversity in songwriter's styles that gave the band it's sound and fanbase.

Just because you don't recognize the contributions of the other song writers/band members, doesn't mean their role wasn't important.

You beat me to it...apparently IML doesnt read song writing credits, or only listens to DDY songs. I guess TS never sang any of the hits...

oh, ok. Tell me why bands such as Styx, REO, Cheap Trick, Yes, Foreigner, Bad Company and Frampton all have opened for Journey AFTER Perry was replaced??? Do they all suck too?

I guess that's too complicated for you simpletons.

They're all past their prime and desperate.

Journey lives on it's past... still does but it's slowly slipping away... just like Styx.

Styx with Dennis would never have opened for Journey.. that's an embarrassment. Thanks Shaw!!

I don't argue that most in the masses are casual listeners and probably don't know or care that it's not the original performers... in fact, that's what Journey and Styx are BANKING on.

Adam: Oh yes, your Highness, we the meek and ignorant are barely worthy to even communicate on the same board as a mental genius such as yourself, for your opinions are obviously so factual and all but you deserve to be treated without any respect. Carry on.

I never said they would! I am talking now. When commonly two bands hook up for a doubleheader..

Even now, Dennis would not have Styx opening for other bands if he were still in the band.

With Dennis, Styx would be a bigger band then Journey with Augeri.

Well, now that you're finally admitting that, we can move on.

IML, do you notice that you are the only person to get insulting through this entire thread? Why cant you discuss this w/o resorting to attacks? I remember something my Debate Team coach said back in high school: If your opponent resorts to anger and name calling, it means he has run out of logical arguments.

*shrugs*

(oh, and I notice you have yet again ignored my request asking you which bands you do like IML)

Great post, ROR. I agree 100%. But I do think IML is a master debater... or something like that...

Why is Lou no longer in Foreigner? Is it because of his health problems causing his weight gain?

After all, he is touring with his own band this year.

Andrew what is the real reason Lou is no longer in Foreigner? I have been told several things
1) Lou didn't want to take a brake in touring and Mick did?
2) Lou is a Christian and Mick couldn't handle it
3) Lou and Mick have different ideas for the group
4) Mick couldn't handle the physical changes Lou was going thru becasue of the tumor
5) Lou's voice is crap and Mick wanted to move on

Also, there was nothing wrong with the new recordings of their songs, Journey needs to do it. Just about anyone who has a vocalist change should at some point. So the new singer can put his twist on the song. Maybe better, maybe worse. But good way to get exposure to the old songs and the new singer-ERIC

Maybe D: All of the Above?

As for the re-recordings, those samples were on thier managent's webpage, I assume the purpose was mainly to give potential bookers an idea of what the "new" band sounds like..

I'll ask Mick next week to clarify, but the upshot is that Lou wanted to continue touring at a point where Mick thought his voice simpyl wasn't up to the job and was leaving fans with a bad impression.

But - stay tuned for clarification!

I saw Lou a year ago, didn't sound as good as old, but still can belt them out. I had heard Mic was really upset over Lou's voice, and problems I mentioned above. I really didn't have a problem with the show or Lou-ERIC

IML? 3rd time's a charm....

What current band lineups *DO* you like? Seriously, not trying to flame you here, just trying to understand your thinking, and I havent seen you mention anywhere who you like....

Abitaman- Journey DID re-record the hits in a medley style and gave them to radio. Are you saying re-record them and put them out on CD? If so, I think you might have a problem legally with the Perry issue...After all, he had a hand in writing most of them.

I saw Foreigner open for Journey 2 years back at Arrowfest..It was the worst performance i have ever seen..They didn't play one single hit, and he must weigh 300 bills.....

I thought they were bad 2 years before that, when on tour with Journey, they were booed off the stage..I felt bad for them..and yes, Lou's voice was shot..maybe that is why Perry won't do it anymore..just an observation...

Lou was touring under the name Foreigner, still is, even though it is the Lou Gramm Band. Mgmt has something do with this I was told at the concert I was at(eveyone know Foreigner, but not as many knows Lou, thought it was a little misleading). Saw them 4 or 5 years ago, Lou was in pretty bad shape, looks and sound wise. But saw him last year(?), big improvement.
Lou is not going to be able to use the name of Foreigner anymore, maybe do a Dennis thing Lou formerly of Foreigner, or something like that.

When Lou was out by his self, he didnot play a lot of Foreigner songs, that Mick wrote by hisself. Had to be Lou's songs or songs he co-wrote with Mick. So no Hot Blooded!

Perry's voice was going, have a show from early 90's Perry was in bad shape. But it was a show that was one only, with hardly no pratice time, to get into shape.

Anyway seems like Dennis out of my big three (DDY, Perry, and Lou), is the only one still out there sounding good.-ERIC
