Great Vocal Duo's and Groups

I didn't mark this as off topic because Styx belongs in this topic.

I was just listening to "While There's Still Time" on Brave New World, and was admiring the harmonies by TS and DDY.......man, those 2 voices were CREATED to sing together !

I'd rank them right up there with John Lennon and Paul McCartney ( with assist from George Harrison) and Crosby Stills and Nash as best vocal combos all time in Rock and Roll.

I'm curious about who ther rest of you would rank as the elite vocal duo's trio's or foursomes vocally in Rock and Roll history ?

I've been listening to/watching BSG's "Full Circle" dvd for the past few days. From the a cappella version of "Full Circle" to the end, I doubt even Tommy/JY/Dennis could equal what those three do. If harmony is what you are what you are looking for, I doubt there are many bands out there doing what BSG do today, or did in the LIttle River Band.

As for others, DY would definitely make the list...or at least Shaw/Blades.
The Everly Brothers.
The Eagles.
CS&N.
Bee Gees
The Beach Boys

Heart could kick the crap out of Wilson Phillips. So could Zan & Sandi. ;-)

Ok, one day...just you wait.

Ah The Wilson sisters..........good call ! As were the Eagles and Beach Boys.

I am thinking 2 guys named Simon and Garfunkel should be on the list too, though much of their music is only on the fringe of being Rock.

Brad Delp is awesome in his own right, but Boston's harmonies were mostly him harmonizing with himself ala studio recording weren't they ?
I suppose if he's schitzophrenic, we could include him on the list as a duo ???

Classic wants to know:

When do we get some sound clips of ZansaN posted on the Web for all to hear ? :?:

I find I agree with Monker!!

Love the harmonies of CSN, and also Crosby and Nash. "Wind on the Water" is just wonderful.

Hard to beat the Beach Boys for close, beautiful harmonies.

I go with all your choices, Monker.

As for some amazing female harmony, check out the Trio albums -- Parton, Rondstadt and Harris. Wow! That is some Classic Styx-like harmony you cannot separate with tissue paper!

I see they've already been mentioned, but Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades came to mind immediately when I read classic's original post. Man, can those two harmonize!! I also think Robin Wilson and Jesse Valenzuela of the Gin Blossoms blend very well together. I've also thought that Def Leppard's harmonies were pretty tight, although I'm not sure exactly who is responsible for that.

That's completely logical, Bugsy. Gratitude would be in order, but that's just so emotional.

In this case...do the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one?

The episode is called "I, Mudd".....Another funny Spock moment is where he tells the main android, Norman

"Logic is a little tweeting bird chirping in the meadow....Logic is a wreath of pretty flowers that smell bad....Are you sure your circuits are registering correctly???? You ears are green".....

Hard to believe the Queenies weren't mentioned up until now.......their harmonies were pretty "over the top"......and I mean that in a good way !

'Twas nice to see a tip of the hat to him at live 8, though Green Day is a poor substitute for the real thing.

LOL, I just watched my tape of their performance of "We Are the Champions". Not even in the same ballpark as Queen, but I thought it was a nice gesture. And the rest of Green Day's set rocked.

How could we forget the amazing harmony of Queen??

Green Day is awesome. I like it when newer bands tip their hats to classic rock, whether they sound good doing it or not! I saw Vertical Horizon, Ninedays, and SR-71 at the same show a few years back, and each band had a classic cover in their setlist! I thought that was the coolest!!!!!

Original Queen, excellent choice!!!!

I like Shaw/Blades together.

Heart, another excellent choice!! I like Wilson Phillips too. Mamas and Papas were pretty good during their time. Same with the Temptations.

I don't care for CSN&Y, just my opinion, I just turn the dial (no offense). Bee Gees and Eagles harmonized pretty darn good.

I'll always like the harmonies of Styx (pre-1999) :)

I would like to add to the list a little band from PA (Allentown I think) called Shadow Gallery. They have a primary singer of course, but in almost every song they do some sort of vocal melodies or harmonizing. In my book, no one is better than this band when it comes to that

Soloud,

Are you a fan of Live? I know they're big in Pennsylvania. They aren't known for harmony, either, but I'm goingto see them next month, and I'm THRILLED.

Zan,

Live...I dig em. They put on a good show as they have enough recognizable and good songs to keep you interested. Enjoy!
