OT-Dennis Kicks Ass (The Hurricane that is...)

I just got back from vacationing in Pensacola (Mrs. Swwskjs' Parents live there). This was an area hit by Hurricane Ivan last year. A direct hit in fact. It's been 10 months since landfall and some areas down there look like the storm hit yesterday. There was much more damage done to the city than I had imagined and I had seen pictures of much of the damage. (If you're interested, do a search for Pensacola Ivan pictures). Needless to say when Cindy and Dennis were still tropical depressions, my in-laws had the nervous uneasy feeling going on. Initially, I figured a hurricane named Dennis ought to be good for some MR fodder, but considering the strength and projected path of the storm (Pensacola is the bullseye now), I hope you keep the people who are still recovering from last year in your thoughts and prayers along with the victims of the london bombing.

Thanks,

Scott

I have a very dear friend living right outside of Pensacola. And even if I didn't, I can certainly keep good thoughts and wishes for those in Dennis' path. The folks in Florida have certainly been put to a test this past year.

Peace

As of right now Dennis looks to go east of me, in Ocean Springs (Biloxi MS), which is good for me. If it were still miss me and go west, that would be almost as bad as takeing a direct hit. Mandatory evac are suppose to issued tomorrow sometime were I live. It's looking bad. Still too early to tell were it's going. Tropical Storm Cindy came thru here Tuesday/Wed. I got caught in a waterspout/Tornado. And had a tornado touch down about a half block in front of me in my work truck. Did slight damage to the Post Offfice in Waveland/Bay St, louis. -ERIC

Wishing every one of you safe harbor. I will be thinking of all of you who may be affected by Dennis the Menace.

I know our time along the Texas coast is coming. No way to know when, but it will happen at some point.

Got a call last night from the in-laws. One of their neighbors had a large section of roof peel off which struck my in-laws roof causing some minor damage. That's the first structural damage their house has seen in 17 years, but other than that, the damage to the area as a whole was much less than expected. The tidal surge was lower, thankfully, which limited the majority of damage to wind related damage. Also, most everyone heeded the evacuation notices and were a safe distance from Dennis when it made landfall. Thanks for everyones concern.

Scott, I'm glad to hear that your in-laws were safe. We're still waiting to hear from my Uncle who lives in Panama City.

I hope there will be no more hurricanes or terrible storms this year.
